Healthy biological activities in legume flours from industrial cooking

The legume consumption is increasing because this food represents a rich and sustainable source of plant proteins and biological activities considered effective in the prevention of some chronic diseases,including those *** the aim to characterize functional properties of some legume foodstuffs,the total polyphenolic content and the antioxidant,metal chelation and ACE-inhibitory activity contained in the flours from industrial cooking processes of eight legumes were analyzed using specific spectrophotometric *** results show that especially flours from cooked lentils and some beans represent a good source of *** estimated amount of chelating activity,ranging from 0.97(tondini bean)to 4.4(green lentil)micromoles of EDTA equivalents/g of flours,could contribute to the prevention of the accumulation in the body of heavy metals,representing a possible risk factor for respiratory infectious *** beans showed an ACE-inhibitory activity higher than chickpea and *** was estimated that 125 g of the bean flour with the highest activity contain an ACE-inhibitory activity corresponding to 25 mg of the drug captopril,representing the initial daily dosage recommended for the treatment of moderate high blood *** data could contribute to formulate personalized diets to address the needs of different subjects.

An insight into chemical composition,nutritional value and potential health risk of increasingly popular bilberry and black chokeberry commercial juices was provided,based on HPLC-UV(anthocyanins and non-anthocyanin phenolics;patulin;hydroxymethylfurfural),AAS(minerals)and ICP-MS(trace elements)***(in bilberry)and cyanidin glycosides(in bilberry and chokeberry)were the most abundantly present anthocyanins,chlorogenic acid dominated among non-anthocyanin polyphenols,while mineral composition revealed high K and desirable low Na content.A glass of blueberry/black chockeberry juice(200 mL)per day could provide up to 63.5/27.0 mg of anthocyanins,147.2/314.0 mg of polyphenols,almost 50%of Mg(the only mineral satisfying the requirement for a nutritional claim)and,in case of chokeberry,20%of Mn adequate *** health risk was observed related to any of the investigated *** indications of a possible benefitial role for health,observed compositional variations precluded positioning of berry juices as functional *** labelling could help specialist in nutrition and functional foods as well as health-conscious consumers seeking foods with reliable quantity of dietary valuable phytochemicals and *** characterised food has been one of the prerequisites for the approval of a health claim,along with sufficiently defined and substantiated claimed effect.

A Spectrophotometric Study of Streptomycin Effect on the Clinical Urea Determination

The results of studying inhibitory effect of streptomycin on the modified Berthelot reaction were presented in this paper and a new kinetic method for determining streptomycin in pharmaceutical preparations and human urine was developed on the basis of the obtained results. The rates of catalytic and catalytic-inhibitory reaction were monitored at 700 nm （t=25 ±0.1 ℃） using UV/vis spectrophotometer. By analyzing the spectra and experimental dependences of the catalytic and catalytic-inhibitory reaction rates on the reactant concentrations, it was noticed that streptomycin attacked nitroprusside and hypochlorite causing the inhibition of the production of 2,2＇-dicarboxylindophenol. According to this effect, an analytical decrease for determination of urea by modified Berthelot reaction appeared in the presence of small amounts of streptomycin. Beer＇s law was obeyed in the interval of streptomycin sulfate concentration from 18.2 to 182 μg·mL^-1. The detection limit calculated by two methods was obtained at 11.75 μg·mL^-1 and 8.54 μg·mL^-1. The relative standard deviation of 0.55%--8.83% and the recovery of 109.10% were determined. The obtained results were validated using the referent HPLC method.

Objective The effect of oral cadmium(Cd)intake to influence contact skin allergies was examined,since it is known that Cd is a heavy metal that affects many tissues,including the skin,in which it disturbs homeostasis,thus resulting in inflammation and *** Male rats were evoked with experimental contact hypersensitivity reaction(CHS)to hapten dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB),after prolonged(30 day)oral exposure to an environmentally relevant Cd dose(5 ppm).The ear cell population was analyzed with flow *** production by ear skin cells and the activity of skin-draining lymph node(DLN)cells were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results Orally acquired Cd(5 ppm)increased CHS intensity only in Dark Agouti(DA)rats by affecting inflammatory responses in both the sensitization(an increase of IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production)and challenge(an increase of CD8^(+)and CD4^(+)cell number and TNF,IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production)*** increased CHS reaction was seen in Albino Oxford(AO)rats only at a high Cd dose(50 ppm),during the challenge phase(an increase of CD8^(+)and CD4^(+)cell number and TNF,IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production).Conclusion These novel data indicate that oral Cd intensifies the skin response to sensitizing chemicals such as DNCB.

Diabetes mellitus （DM） is a most common endocrine disorder and it is characterized by high serum glucose levels and by disturbance of lipid metabolism. As a result, the patients can develop long-term systemic complications. Numerous skin lesions are associated with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus, and they are specific chronic complications of the disease. Cutaneous xanthomas result from deposition of lipids in the histiocytes in the dermis or subcutaneous tissue. Eruptive xanthomas are a characteristic, but uncommon complication of diabetes mellitus associated with a more sustained hyperlipidemia affecting plasma triglycerides and cholesterol, and hyperglycemia with glycosuria.
