Background:Vestibular symptoms on sitting-up are frequent on patients seen by vestibular ***,a benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BppV)variant which elicits vestibular symptoms with oculomotor evidence of posterior semicircular canal(p-SCC)cupula stimulation on sitting-up was described and named sitting-up vertigo BppV.A periampullar restricted p-SCC canalolithiasis was proposed as a causal ***:To describe new mechanisms of action for the sitting-up vertigo BppV ***:Eighteen patients with sitting-up vertigo BppV were examined with a pre-established set of positional maneuvers and follow-up until they resolved their symptoms and clinical ***:All patients showed up-beating torsional nystagmus(UBTN)and vestibular symptoms on coming up from either Dix-Hallpike(DHM)or straight head-hanging *** out of 18 patients presented a sustained UBTN with an ipsitorsional component to the tested side on half-Hallpike maneuver(HH).A slower persistent contratorsional down-beating nystagmus was found in eleven out18 patients tested on nose down position(ND).Conclusions:persistent direction changing positional nystagmus on HH and ND positions indicative of pSCC heavy cupula was found in 11 patients.A sustained UBTN on HH with the absence of findings on ND,which is suggestive of the presence of p-SCC short arm canalolithiasis,was found on 5 *** patients were treated with canalith repositioning maneuvers without success,but they resolved their findings by means of Brandt-Daroff *** propose p-SCC heavy cupula and p-SCC short arm canalolithiasis as two new putative mechanisms for the sitting-up vertigo BppV variant.

Background:Huntington's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative *** atrophy,as measured by volumetric magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),is a downstream consequence of neurodegeneration,but microstructural changes within brain tissue are expected to precede this volumetric *** tissue microstructure can be assayed non-invasively using diffusion MRI,which also allows a tractographic analysis of brain ***:We here used ex vivo diffusion MRI(11.7 T)to measure microstructural changes in different brain regions of end-stage(14 weeks of age)wild type and R6/2 mice(male and female)modeling Huntington's *** probe the microstructure of different brain regions,reduce partial volume effects and measure connectivity between different regions,a 100μm isotropic voxel resolution was ***:Although fractional anisotropy did not reveal any difference between wild-type controls and R6/2 mice,mean,axial,and radial diffusivity were increased in female R6/2 mice and decreased in male R6/2 *** brain streamlines were only reduced in male R6/2 mice,but streamline density was ***-to-region tractography indicated reductions in connectivity between the cortex,hippocampus,and thalamus with the striatum,as well as within the basal ganglia(striatum—globus pallidus—subthalamic nucleus—substantia nigra—thalamus).Conclusions:Biological sex and left/right hemisphere affected tractographic results,potentially reflecting different stages of disease *** proof-of-principle study indicates that diffusion MRI and tractography potentially provide novel biomarkers that connect volumetric changes across different brain *** a translation setting,these measurements constitute a novel tool to assess the therapeutic impact of interventions such as neuroprotective agents in transgenic models,as well as patients with Huntington's disease.

It has been reported that the host of SARS-CoV-2 can be extremely wide due to the conservation of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 in mammals[1].Several studies have reported natural or experimental infection with SARS-CoV-2 in pets,farm and captive wild animals[2-4].However,to the best of our knowledge,there was no published study assessing virus circulation among domestic or captive animals in Central,West and East *** this study,we assessed the presence and circulation of SARS-CoV-2 or other betacoronaviruses in pets,livestock and animals kept in captivity in conservation centers in Haut-Ogoouéprovince,southeastern Gabon.

Channeling of fast ions through the bent carbon nanotubes： The extended two-fluid hydrodynamic model

We investigate the interactions of charged particles with straight and bent single-walled carbon nanotubes （SWNTs） under channeling conditions in the presence of dynamic polarization of the valence electrons in carbon, This polarization is described by a cylindrical, two-fluid hydrodynamic model with the parameters taken from the recent modelling of several independent experiments on electron energy loss spectroscopy of carbon nano-structures. We use the hydrodynamic model to calculate the image potential for protons moving through four types of SWNTs at a speed of 3 atomic units. The image potential is then combined with the Doyle-Turner atomic potential to obtain the total potential in the bent carbon nanotubes. Using that potential, we also compute the spatial and angular distributions of protons channeled through the bent carbon nanotubes, and compare the results with the distributions obtained without taking into account the image potential.

Molecular evidence for biochemical diversification of phenolamide biosynthesis in rice plants

Two phenolamides （pAs）, p-coumaroylputrescine and feruloylputrescine strongly accumulate in rice （Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare） leaves subjected to attack of chewing and sucking herbivores. Here we identified and characterized in vitro three novel rice genes that mediated coumaroyI-CoA/ feruloyI-CoA conjugation to polyamines, putrescine and agmatine. Interestingly, two genes were highly specific for their polyamine substrates, encoding putresdne N-hydrox- ycinnamoyltransferase and agmatine N-hydroxycinnamoyl- transferase, while the third enzyme could use both polyamines and it was therefore annotated as putrescine/ agmatine N-hydroxycinnamoyltransferase. All genes were preferentially expressed in rice roots and developing flowers, and in addition, the putrescine/agmatine N-hydroxycinnamoyl- transferase transcripts were strongly induced by wounding in the young rice leaves. Because the wound response of this gene was only partially suppressed in the jasmonoyI-L-isoleucine deficient plants （Osjarl）, it suggests that its upregulation （as well as inducible pAs in rice） may be largely independent of jasmonoyI-L-isoleucine signaling pathway. The finding of three closely related genes with a similar and/or overlapping activity in pA biosynthesis provides another striking example of rapid diversification of plant metabolism in response to environmental stresses in nature.

Luminescent solar concentrators(LSCs)have recently emerged as a promising receiver technology in free-space optical communications due to their inherent ability to collect light from a wide field-of-view and concentrate it into small areas,thus leading to high optical *** high-speed communication systems integrating LSCs in their detector blocks have already been demonstrated,with the majority of efforts so far being devoted to maximising the received optical power and the system's ***,LSCs may pose a severe bottleneck on the bandwidth of such communication channels due to the comparably slow timescale of the fluorescence events involved,a situation further aggravated by the inherent reabsorption in these systems,and yet,an in-depth study into such dynamic effects remains absent in the *** fill this gap,we have developed a comprehensive analytical solution that delineates the fundamental bandwidth limits of LSCs as optical detectors in arbitrary free-space optical links,and establishes their equivalence with simple RC low-pass electrical ***,we demonstrate a time-domain Monte Carlo simulation platform,an indispensable tool in the multiparameter optimisation of LSC-based receiver *** work offers vital insight into LSC system dynamic behaviour and paves the way to evaluate the technology for a wide range of applications,including visible light communications,high-speed video recording,and real-time biological imaging,to name a few.

Abundance and spatial dynamics of bacterioplankton in the Seven Rila Lakes,Bulgaria

In the high mountain oligotrophic Seven Rila Lakes (2 095–2 535 m a.s.l.) bacterial abundance was recorded in July and September 2006. In July, bacterial abundance (average (3.32±2.5)×105 cell/ml) in the lakes correlated negatively with elevation, while in September (average (26.39±7.1)×105 cell/ml) this pattern was altered and the greatest abundance of bacteria occurred at the highest ((39.05±1.5)×105 cell/ml) and the lowest ((30.63±6.0)×105 cell/ml) elevated lakes. Regression analyses suggested that the principal factor controlling bacterial abundance, in both July and September, was inorganic nitrogen (NO3-N and NH4-N; R2=0.70, pperature (R2=0.66, pplankton (R2=0.95, pptember. All factors, except NO3-N, had a positive effect on bacterial abundance.
