Genetic link between saline and carbonatitic mantle fluids:The system NaCl-CaCO_(3)-MgCO_(3)±H_(2)O±Fe^(0) at 6 GPa

Melt inclusions in kimberlitic minerals and diamonds indicate that chlorides are important constituents of mantle carbonatite ***,alkaline chlorides are important constituents of saline high-density fluids(HDFs)found in diamonds from kimberlites and placers around the *** compositional variations suggest that saline and carbonatitic HDFs could be genetically ***,the essence of this link remains unclear owing to the lack of data on phase relations in the chloridecarbonate systems under *** we studied subsolidus and melting phase relations in the system NaCl–CaCO_(3)–MgCO_(3)at 6 GPa and 1000–1600℃using a Kawai-type multianvil *** found that at 1000℃,subsolidus assemblage consists of halite,magnesite,and *** higher temperatures,the stabilization of dolomite splits the subsolidus area into two partial ternary fields:halite+magnesite+dolomite and halite+dolomite+*** minimum on the liquidus surface corresponds to the halite-dolomite-aragonite ternary eutectic,situated at 1100℃.The eutectic melt has Ca#89 and contains 30 wt.%Na Cl(26 mol%2NaCl).The system has two ternary peritectics:halite+dolomite=magnesite+liquid located near the ternary eutectic and magnesite+dolomite=Mg-dolomite+liquid situated between 1300 and 1400℃.Although under dry conditions incipient melting yields carbonatedominated melt,the addition of water facilitates the fusion of Na Cl and expands the liquid field to Na Cl-rich compositions with up to 70 wt.%Na *** obtained results favor the idea that hydrous saline melts/fluids(brines)found as inclusions in diamonds could be a lower temperature derivative of mantle carbonatite melts and disagree with the hypothesis on chloride melt generation owing to the chloridecarbonate liquid immiscibility since no such immiscibility was *** also studied the interaction of the NaCl–CaCO_(3)–MgCO_(3)system with iron metal and found that carbonate reduction produces Cbearing species(Fe^(0)

Experimental and ab initio study of Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F stability in the pressure range of 0–10 GPa

Both numerical and experimental studies of the stability and electronic properties of barium–sodium metaborate Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F(P63/m) at pressures up to 10 GPa have been carried out. Electronic-structure calculations with HSE06 hybrid functional showed that Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F has an indirect band gap of 6.289 ev. A numerical study revealed the decomposition of Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F into the BaB_(2)O_(4),Na BO_(2), and NaF phases above 3.4 GPa at 300 K. Subsequent high-pressure high-temperature experiments performed using ‘Discoverer-1500’DIA-type apparatus at pressures of 3 and 6 GPa and temperature of 1173 K confirmed the stability of Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F at 3 GPa and its decomposition into BaB_(2)O_(4), NaBO_(2), and NaF at 6 GPa, which was verified by energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and Raman spectroscopy. The observed Raman bands of the Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F phase were assigned by comparing the experimental and calculated spectra. The experimental Raman spectra of decomposition reaction products obtained at 6 GPa suggest the origin of a new high-pressure modification of barium metaborate BaB_(2)O_(4).

Understanding the characteristics and variations of heat exchange and evaporation of lakes is important for regional water resource management and sustainable development. Based on eddy covariance measurements over Lake vanajavesi in southern Finland, characteristics of energy fluxes and cold frontal effects on energy exchange were investigated. The lake acted as a heat sink in spring and summer and a heat source in winter. The latent heat flux reached its minimum value in the morning and peaked in the afternoon. The diurnal variation of sensible heat flux was opposite to that of latent heat flux. Impact factors for the sensible heat flux were mainly the lake-air temperature difference and the product of lake-air temperature difference and wind speed. The latent heat flux was mainly affected by the vapor pressure deficit and the product of vapor pressure deficit and wind speed. The annual mean values of bulk transfer coefficients for momentum, heat,and water vapor were 1.98 × 10–3, 1.62 × 10–3, and 1.31 × 10–3, respectively. Bulk transfer coefficients for heat and water vapor were not equal, indicating that the parameterization of energy exchange in numerical models, where the assumption that the heat coefficient equals the water vapor coefficient needs improvement. Solar flares with similar soft but different hard X-ray emissions： case and statistical studies

From the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager （RHESS1） catalog we select events which have approximately the same GOES class （high C - low M or 500-1200 counts s-1 within the RHESSI 6-12 kev energy band）, but with different maximal energies of detected hard X-rays. The selected events are subdivided into two groups：（1） flares with X-ray emissions observed by RHESSI up to only 50 kev and （2） flares with hard X-ray emission observed also above 50 kev. The main task is to understand observational peculiarities of these two flare groups. We use RHESSIX-ray data to obtain spectral and spa- tial information in order to find differences between selected groups. Spectra and images are analyzed in detail for six events （case study）. For a larger number of samples （85 and 28 flares in the low-energy and high-energy groups respectively） we only make some generalizations. In spectral analysis we use the thick- target model for hard X-ray emission and one temperature assumption for thermal soft X-ray emission. RHESSI X-ray images are used for determination of flare region sizes. Although thermal and spatial prop- erties of these two groups of flares are not easily distinguishable, power law indices of hard X-rays show significant differences. Events from the high-energy group generally have a harder spectrum. Therefore, the efficiency of chromospheric evaporation is not sensitive to the hardness of nonthermal electron spectra but rather depends on the total energy flux of nonthermal electrons.

Cationic Polymerization of Isobutylene and C4 Mixed Feed Using Complexes of Lewis Acids with Ethers: A Comparative Study

The cationic polymerization of C4 mixed feed and isobutylene co-initiated by AlCl3xOiPr2,iBuAlC12xnOiPr2, and [emim]Cl- FeCl3xnOiPr2 ([emim]Cl: 1 -ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride) has been investigated. AlCl3xOiPr2 co-initiated cationic polymerization of C4 mixed feed proceeds at a lower rate than polymerization of isobutylene affording polymers with higher molecular weight. Complexes of iBuAlCh with di isopropyl ether of different compositions are more suitable co-initiators than AlCl3xOiPr2 for the synthesis of highly reactive polyisobutylene (HR PIB) from C4 mixed feed due to their higher activity in the polymerization as well as possibility to prepare polyisobutylenes with lower molecular weight and higher content of exo-olefin end groups. However, iBuA1C12 needs activating via addition of external water (initiator) and/or interaction with salts hydrates in order to increase the reaction rate and the saturated monomer conversion.[Emim]Cl-FeC13/iPr2O is a quite promising catalyst for the preparation of HR PIB with high exo-olefin end group content (> 80%) and relatively low polydispersity (Mw/Mn via cationic polymerization of C4 mixed feed. The sonication of reaction mixture in case of using [emim]Cl-FeCh allowed increasing the reaction rate and decreasing the molecular weight.
