The essential role of immunoglobulin G(IgG)in immune system regulation and combatting infectious diseases cannot be fully recognized without an understanding of the changes in its N-glycans attached to the asparagine 297 of the fragment crystallizable(Fc)domain that occur under such *** glycans impact the antibody stability,half-life,secretion,immunogenicity,and effector ***,in this study,we analyzed and compared the total IgG glycome—at the level of individual glycan structures and derived glycosylation traits(sialylation,galactosylation,fucosylation,and bisecting Nacetylglucosamine(GlcNAc))—of 64 patients with influenza,77 patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),and 56 healthy *** study revealed a significant decrease in IgG galactosylation,sialylation,and bisecting GlcNAc(where the latter shows the most significant decrease)in deceased COVID19 patients,whereas IgG fucosylation was *** the other hand,IgG galactosylation remained stable in influenza patients and COVID-19 *** glycosylation in influenza patients was more time-dependent:In the first seven days of the disease,sialylation increased and fucosylation and bisecting GlcNAc decreased;in the next 21 days,sialylation decreased and fucosylation increased(while bisecting GlcNAc remained stable).The similarity of IgG glycosylation changes in COVID-19 survivors and influenza patients may be the consequence of an adequate immune response to enveloped viruses,while the observed changes in deceased COVID-19 patients may indicate its deviation.

On the other hand, IgG galactosylation remained stable in influenza patients and COVID-19 survivors. IgG glycosylation in influenza patients was more time-dependent: In the first seven days of the disease, sialylation increased and fucosylation and bisecting GlcNAc decreased; in the next 21 days, sialylation decreased and fucosylation increased(while bisecting GlcNAc remained stable). We prove a local existence of a strong solution v ：Ω×T→R^3 for a system of nonlinear integrodifferential equations describing motion of an incompressible viscoelastic fluid using standard mathematical tools. The problem is considered in a bounded, smooth domain ΩСR^3 with a Dirichlet boundary condition and a standard initial condition.

Topology of Moment-Angle Manifolds Arising from Flag Nestohedra

The author constructs a family of manifolds, one for each n ≥ 2, having a nontrivial Massey n-product in their cohomology for any given n. These manifolds turn out to be smooth closed 2-connected manifolds with a compact torus Tm-action called momentangle manifolds ZP, whose orbit spaces are simple n-dimensional polytopes P obtained from an n-cube by a sequence of truncations of faces of codimension 2 only(2-truncated cubes). Moreover, the polytopes P are flag nestohedra but not graph-associahedra. The author also describes the numbers β^(-i,2(i+1))(Q) for an associahedron Q in terms of its graph structure and relates it to the structure of the loop homology(Pontryagin algebra)H_*(?ZQ), and then studies higher Massey products in H*(ZQ) for a graph-associahedron Q.

Experimental and calculated liquid-liquid interfacial tension in demixing metal alloys

Liquid-liquid interracial tension in binary and temary Al-based monotectic systems has been determined experimentally with a tensiometric method in a wide temperature interval. The temperature dependence of the interfacial tension is well described by a power law function of the type σαβ - （1 - T/Tc）δ with the critical exponent δ= 1.3 and a critical temperature Tc. Theoretical models describing the liquid-liquid interface in monotectic alloys and their applicability for calculation of the interfacial tension and its temperature dependence in binary systems are considered.

Effects of pre-existing cracks and infillings on strength of natural rocks--Cases of sandstone, argillite and basalt

This study aims to examine the influence of pre-existing discontinuities on the strengths of four natural rocks of different origins.A series of unconfined compression tests was performed on specimens of two types of sandstones,argillite and basalt that contain open and filled *** was found that the presence of cracks tends to decrease the overall strength for all studied rocks;however,the magnitude of strength reduction is related to the property of *** larger strength decrease was observed for the relatively harder argillite and basalt,compared to the softer *** was also found that the infill material could increase the strength of rock specimens,while the obtained strength depended on the characteristics of the fill material.

Purinergic Modulation of Activity in the Developing Auditory Pathway

Purinergic P2 receptors,activated by endogenous ATP,are prominently expressed on neuronal and nonneuronal cells during development of the auditory periphery and central auditory *** the mature cochlea,extracellular ATP contributes to ion homeostasis,and has a protective function against noise ***,we focus on the modulation of activity by extracellular ATP during early postnatal development of the lower auditory *** mammals,spontaneous patterned activity is conveyed along afferent auditory pathways before the onset of acoustically evoked signal *** this critical developmental period,inner hair cells fire bursts of action potentials that are believed to provide a developmental code for synaptic maturation and refinement of auditory circuits,thereby establishing a precise tonotopic *** ATP-release triggers such patterned activity by raising the extracellular K+concentration and contributes to firing by increasing the excitability of auditory nerve fibers,spiral ganglion neurons,and specific neuron types within the auditory brainstem,through the activation of diverse P2 *** review recent studies that provide new models on the contribution of purinergic signaling to early development of the afferent auditory ***,we discuss potential future directions of purinergic research in the auditory system.

Recent Breakthroughs in the Characterization of Abscisic Acid Efflux Transporters: Shedding New Light on Abscisic Acid Dynamics and Regulation

The 15-carbon terpenoid abscisic acid (ABA) acts in vascular plants as a versatile hormone playing essential roles in reproductive development, vegetative development and growth, stress-development interactions, and physiological responses to abiotic and biotic stresses. Over the past 60 years, ABA dynamics, regulation, and responses have been progressively characterized: synthesis, transport and translocation, conjugation and deconjugation, metabolism, sensing, signal transduction, and downstream responses. In this context, the discovery of ABA exporters and importers has added novel dimensions to the understanding of ABA regulation. Moreover, since the initial discovery of the adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette (ABC) AtABCG25 exporter and AtABCG40 importer, several transporters of ABA have been characterized. As ABA is synthesized within cells, efflux transport of ABA to extracellular spaces is an important controlling step before ABA movements from cell to cell and from source to target. Until now, structural and functional mechanistic interactions between ABA and its transporters have remained poorly understood. Recent structure-function studies have unveiled key features of the mechanisms and functional dynamics of ABA-transporter interactions in the case of the ABCG25 exporter. ABCG25 has been established as a bona fide ABA efflux transporter involved in signal transmission leading to stomatal closure. It has also been shown to transport ABA-glucosyl ester (ABA-GE) conjugated form, thus implying involvement in conjugation and deconjugation dynamics. All of these mechanisms are essential for distribution throughout source tissues, source-to-target transmission, distribution throughout target tissues, and signal shape kinetics in target cells. Dry powder platform for pulmonary drug delivery

The phenomenon of particle interaction involved in pulmonary drug delivery belongs to a wide variety of disciplines of particle technology, in particular, fluidization. This paper reviews the basic concepts of pulmonary drug delivery with references to fluidization research, in particular, studies on Geldart group C powders. Dry powder inhaler device-formulation combination has been shown to be an effective method for delivering drugs to the lung for treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis. Even with advanced designs, however, delivery efficiency is still poor mainly due to powder dispersion problems which cause poor lung deposition and high dose variability. Drug particles used in current inhalers must be 1–5 μm in diameter for effective deposition in small-diameter airways and alveoli. These powders are very cohesive, have poor flowability, and are difficult to disperse into aerosol due to cohesion arising from van der Waals attraction. These problems are well known in fluidization research, much of which is highly relevant to pulmonary drug delivery.
