Re-examination of three specimens from the Kanchenjunga Himal of Nepal via in situ Lu-Hf garnet geochronology yields evidence of multiple garnet growth *** analyses from grain cores in two specimens define Paleozoic regressions whereas analyses from grain rims in the same specimens define low-precision regressions consistent with the timing of Himalayan *** dates contrast with previously published low dispersion,ca.290 Ma isotope dissolution(ID)Lu-Hf garnet dates for the same *** of Lu and spot age distribution in representative grains from the specimens examined yields calculated dates that approximate the Permian-age regressions through the original ID *** findings demonstrate that it is possible to generate low dispersion ID Lu-Hf data from multigenerational garnet with significantly different-age growth events when approximately equal proportions of the different age reservoirs are included in multi-component aliquots.

Recent studies have shown that many challenges encountered in conventional single crystal growth methods, including high production costs, can be overcome by using the solid-state single-crystal growth(SSCG) approach, which has been recognized as a simple and cost-effective alternative for obtaining single crystals. In this work, yalO(yaG) and Nd-doped yaG(Nd:yaG) single crystals were grown via the SSCG method using spark plasma sintering(SPS). The growth of single crystals was initiated at the surface of(110) yaG single-crystal seeds embedded inside yaG and Nd:yaG powder beds, and this growth continued as the surrounding polycrystalline matrix was converted into a single crystal. The application of external pressure during the SPS process has been found beneficial for reducing the porosity of the grown single crystals. Moreover, high Nddoping levels had a positive effect on the conversion kinetics,with a growth rate of almost 50 μm/h, which increased the driving force for single-crystal growth through the solute drag effect. EDS elemental mapping and line scans confirmed the compositional uniformity of the grown single crystals, while EBSD images verified their crystallization in the(110) direction. The obtained results confirm the strong potential of the SSCG technique coupled with SPS for the growth of undoped and highly doped yaG single crystals with excellent quality.

Background Remote monitoring(RM)is increasingly employed for all types of cardiac implantable devices(CIED).However,there are only limited data on the acceptance of RM by the *** aim of our study was to ascertain how octogenarians assess RM technologies compared to younger,presumably technically more literate patients,and what concerns or technical problems the system presents to both groups of *** The trial was designed as a descriptive,register-based single-center *** study population consisted of all consecutive patients≥80 years of age(group A,n=94)and all consecutive patients aged≤40 years(group B,n=71),who had undergone implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator(ICD)between the years of 2009 and 2018 and were using a Home Monitoring?(HM,Biotronik,Berlin,Germany)*** patients fulfilling entry criteria were approached with a request to participate in the *** A total of 85(90.4%)and 65(91.5%)valid surveys were obtained for groups A and B,***-two percent of patients in both groups(P=0.903)were satisfied with the limited number of planned ambulatory follow-ups(i.e.,once a year).All patients in both groups(100%)reported that they were satisfied with the HM system,and 97%and 94%of patients in Groups A and B,respectively,ranked it highly beneficial(P=0.68).A significant proportion of patients in both groups were completely unaware of any health-related benefits associated with the use of the HM system(42%in Group A vs.49%in Group B,P=0.4).Among the most frequently reported personal benefits of HM were a sense of safety and security and savings on travel expenses and time.5%and 9%of patients in Groups A and B,respectively,reported that usage of HM caused them some degree of psychological stress(P=0.27).Nearly all patients in both groups reported receiving information on HM from their doctor after ICD *** of Group A reported receiving information from a nurse either before or after

Vernalization, the acquisition of competence to flower after extended cold treatment, has puzzled researchers throughout the last century. Great progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms of vernalization in Arabidopsis has been made in the course of the last 20 years, placing the flowering repressor- encoding gene FLOWERING LOCUS C （FLC） in the limelight （Bouch6 et al., 2017）. In vernalization-dependent accessions, FRIGIDA （FRI） ensures strong expression of FLC that delays flowering, and extended exposure to low temperatures such as during winter leads to stable repression of FLC, which in turn clears the way for induction of flowering.

Does shifting to professional emergency department staffing affect the decision for chest radiography?

BACKGROUND: The study aims to determine whether shifting to professional emergency department(ED) teams leads to a higher rate of radiologic ***: We retrospectively analyzed a total of 2,000 patients presenting to the ED of a tertiary teaching hospital in two time periods: group 1(G1) comprised 1,000 consecutive patients enrolled from December 21, 2012 to January 5, 2013(all patients were examined by an internal medicine specialist);group 2(G2) comprised 1,000 consecutive patients enrolled from December 21, 2018 to January 3, 2019(all patients were examined by an emergency physician).RESULTS: The chest X-ray(CXR) was performed in 40.6% of all patients. There was no difference in the frequency of CXR(38.9% in G1 vs. 42.3% in G2, P=0.152). More CXRs were performed in G2 patients older than 65 years, in female patients older than 65 years, in patients presenting during the evening and night shifts or off-hours, in patients with a history of malignancy, in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, and in patients with bradycardia, but fewer in patients presenting with arrhythmia. No difference in the rates of pathological CXR was found(47.3% in G1 vs. 52.2% in G2, P=0.186). Compared with G2, higher sensitivity and specificity were obtained for the binary logistic regression model predicting pathological findings in ***: Shifting to professional ED teams does not increase radiologic workup. By implementing deliberate usage of ultrasound, some self-governing procedures, case-oriented investigations, and center-specific recommendations, unnecessary radiologic workup can be avoided. Professional ED teams could lead to a higher standard of emergency care.
