Infections by nonpolio enteroviruses(EVs)are highly prevalent,particularly among children and neonates,where they may cause substantial morbidity and *** diagnosis of these viral infections is important in patient prognosis and guidance of clinical *** the laboratory diagnosis of non-polio EVs is mainly based on molecular techniques,classical virus-isolation techniques are still used in refer-ence *** techniques,such as antigen detection and serology,are becoming obsolete and rarely used in *** important part of diagnosis and surveillance of EV infections is viral typing by VP1 gene sequencing using conventional Sanger technique and more recently,full-genome next-generation *** latter allows the typing of all EVs,better investigation of EV outbreaks,detection of coinfec-tion,and identification of severity markers in the EV genome.

Myxedema ascites with high CA-125:Case and a review of literature

Ascites appearing in a previously healthy female patient is usually ascribed to a variety of causes,among which,is a cancerous process,especially if it comes with a raised CA-125 *** the CA-125 antigen is present on more than 80% of malignant epithelial ovarian tissue of non-mucinous type,it is also found on both healthy and malignant cells of mesothelial and non-mesothelial *** ascites which is caused by hypothyroidism is a rare entity,but on the other hand is easy to *** is one of the differential diagnoses when the ascites is refractory to treatment and no other obvious cause can be *** the diagnosis is delayed,patients will frequently receive unnecessary procedures,while treatment has very good response rates and ascites resolve with serum CA-125 normalization after adequate hormonal treatment.

Stem cells in neuroinjury and neurodegenerative disorders: challenges and future neurotherapeutic prospects

The prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases and neural injury disorders is increasing worldwide. Research is now focusing on improving current neurogenesis techniques including neural stem cell therapy and other biochemical drug-based approaches to ameliorate these disorders. Unfortunately, we are still facing many obstacles that are rendering current neurotherapies ineffective in clinical trials for reasons that are yet to be discovered. That is why we should start by fully understanding the complex mechanisms of neurogenesis and the factors that affect it, or else, all our suggested therapies would fail since they would not be targeting the essence of the neurological disorder but rather the symptoms. One possible paradigm shift is to switch from neuroprotectant therapies towards neurodegeneration/neurorestorative approaches. In addition, other and our laboratories are increasingly focusing on combining the use of pharmacological agents（such as Rho-associated kinase（ROCK） inhibitors or other growth factors（such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor（BDNF）） and stem cell treatment to enhance the survivability and/or differentiation capacity of transplanted stem cells in neurotrauma or other neurodegeneration animal models. Ongoing stem cell research is surely on the verge of a breakthrough of multiple effective therapeutic options for neurodegenerative disorders. Once, we fully comprehend the process of neurogenesis and its components, we will fully be capable of manipulating and utilizing it. In this work, we discuss the current knowledge of neuroregenerative therapies and their associated challenges.
