Concentration of Selected elements in the Tissues of the Knee Joint

The quality of five commercial naphthalene sulfonated superplasticizers are assessed on the basis of DTA, EDAX, XRD, FTIR and hPLC methods of analyses, as well as their chemical and physical properties. The slump behavior of Portland cements with varying C3 A/C4 AF ratio is determined using the five admixtures. For the superplasticized concrete, the slump loss, initial setting time and up to 90-day compressive strength values are reported. It is found that, the polymer characteristics of the superplasticizers affect greatly the workability of the cement pastes and concrete. Also increasing the ferrite content in cement leads to the elimination of the differences of the polymer characteristics and causes a good fluidity of the pastes irrespective of the quality of the superplasticizer.

Background: Psoriasis can seriously affect the quality of life (QOL) of patients and has a strong impact on social relations, psychological status and daily activities. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the impact of different grades of severity in psoriasis on QOL in patients in Kuwait. Patients/methods: We used the Dermatology Quality Of Life scale (DQOLS) developed by Morgan and then validated for use in Kuwait to study a sample of 330 out-patients with psoriasis. Results: Overall, physical activities were affected in greater than 50%of cases. This figure increased significantly with increased severity of psoriasis. Also, social relationships were disrupted in more than half of the patients but with no significant difference between different grades of severity. All psychological feeling items were affected by psoriasis to variable degrees. however, significant differences related to the severity of psoriasis were detected: feeling embarrassed, feeling short tempered, feeling depressed, and feeling a lack of hope. One third of cases declared their sexual activities were affected by psoriasis. Conclusion: Data provided should improve the physicians ‘awareness of the importance of patients’QOL and enhance psychological evaluation of the psoriatic patient which will promote his/her positive outcome and compliance with treatment.

Background Asymptomatic carriers of leucine-rich repeat kinase 2(LRRK2)gene mutations constitute an ideal population for discovering prodromal biomarkers of Parkinson’s disease(PD).In this study,we aim to identify CSF candidate risk biomarkers of PD in individuals with LRRK2 mutation *** We measured the levels of CSF total-(t-),oligomeric(o-)and phosphorylated S129(pS129-)α-syn,total-tau(tTau),phosphorylated threonine 181 tau(pTau),amyloid-beta 40(Aβ-40),amyloid-beta-42(Aβ-42)and 40 inflammatory chemokines in symptomatic(n=23)and asymptomatic(n=51)LRRK2 mutation carriers,subjects with a clinical diagnosis of PD(n=60)and age-matched healthy controls(n=34).General linear models corrected for age and gender were performed to assess differences in CSF biomarkers between the *** that varied significantly between the groups were then analyzed using backward-elimination logistic regression analysis to identify an ideal biomarkers panel of prodromal *** Discriminant function analysis revealed low levels of CSF t-α-syn,high levels of CSF o-α-syn and TNF-αbest discriminated asymptomatic LRRK2 mutation carriers from both symptomatic PD and healthy *** the discriminative power using receiver operating curve analysis,an area under the curve>0.80 was *** The current study suggests that CSF t-,o-α-syn and TNF-αare candidate risk biomarkers for the detection of PD at the prodromal *** findings also highlight the dynamic interrelationships between CSF proteins and the importance of using a biomarkers’panel approach for an accurate and timely diagnosis of PD.

We report a case of severe post partum cadiomyopathy in severe cardiogenic shock, treated successfully and urgently with the implantation of Left Ventricular Assist device. The patient recovered a normal left ventricle function shortly after implantation. This case illustrates the crucial place of left ventricular assist device in severe post partum cardiomyopathy as a bridge to recovery as well as a bridge to transplantation.

Low temperature geothermal resources are located in many areas and represent a high potential energy resource. One of the most common technologies, efficient and to exploit this type of resource is the binary cycle technology. Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is one of the main types of binary cycles. electricity generation from low enthalpy geothermal energy using ORC is a talented technology. This paper addresses the design of binary cycle power plant utilizing one of the low temperature geothermal resource of temperature 92°C using four alternative working fluids: Butane, Isobutane, Pentane and 1,1,1,3,3-Pentafluoropropan (R245fa). Bir Nabi is the well under consideration which located in the Eastern desert, Egypt. Three operation parameters: geothermal temperature, reinjection temperature and geothermal flow rate are taken into consideration to analyze the performance of the power plant for different fluids. A performance analysis is conducted on ORC binary power plant using MATLAB programming to study the variation of output power and efficiency with the operation parameters. Also, the effect of these parameters on the area of ORC binary cycle power plant components;preheater, evaporator and condenser is presented. The geothermal resources temperatures are in the range of 90°C to130°C, the mass flow rate of the geothermal fluid ranges between 10 kg/s and 50 kg/s and reinjection temperature ranges from 30°C to 70°C. The results indicate that, the highest output power and plant efficiency are obtained with Pentane.

本研究评估了亚致死浓度的林丹(1/2的60dLC50,0.935mg/L)和阿特拉津(1/2的60dLC50,3.585mg/L)对海洋性贝类影响的生理学反应。林丹和阿特拉津是已被公认的环境污染物质。56d的实验表明,这两种农药在贝类体内具有积累作用,而且在体内各器官的积累程度与其作用的靶器官相一致。林丹在体内的积累浓度(每克干重372μg)比阿特拉津(每克干重137μg)更高。该贝类在林丹中暴露56d,其氧的消耗比对照组降低10%,而在阿特拉津中则比对照组提高了29%。经林丹和阿特拉津暴露后,增加了氨排泄物。但是,两种农药均使贝类的取食率和吸收率下降。林丹会降低贝类的取食率、氧消耗、氨排泄、食物吸收率以及生长范围。在形式上,阿特拉津对贝类的影响与林丹的影响有不同之处,它会降低贝类的取食率和食物吸收率,但与林丹不同的是,它会提高贝类的氧消耗和氨排泄。总之,阿特拉津会明显地减小贝类繁殖净能。因此,阿特拉津暴露与林丹暴露的毒性症状是一致的。结合组织化学分析,贝类的生理学反应可作为一种理想的环境监测工具。研究结果表明,在二分之一的半致死浓度下暴露两个月,不仅能有效地证明林丹和阿特拉津在贝类组织内具有积累作用,而且对这些积累能产生生理反应。
