Thickness-dependent monochalcogenide GeSe-based CBRAM for memory and artificial electronic synapses

Investigating the promising chalcogenide materials for the development of memory and advanced neuromorphic computing applications is a critical step in realizing electronic memory and synaptic devices that can efficiently emulate biological synaptic functions.However,the assessment of monochalcogenide materials for the fabrication of highly scalable memory and electronic synaptic devices that can accurately mimic synaptic functions remain limited.In the present study,we investigated the thickness-dependent resistive switching(RS)behavior of conductive bridge random access memory(CBRAM)based on a monochalcogenide GeSe switching medium for its possible application in high-performance memory and electronic synapses.GeSe thin films of different thicknesses(6,13,24,35,47,and 56 nm)were deposited via sputtering to fabricate CBRAM devices with a stacking sequence of Ag/GeSe/Pt/Ti/SiO_(2).The devices exhibited compliance current(CC)-free and electroforming-free RS with highly stable endurance and retention characteristics with no major degradation.All devices with a thickness of 6 nm had a low-resistance state(LRS),which required an initial reset to ensure reliable switching cycles.The devices with a thickness of 47 nm and above exhibited the co-existence of unipolar resistive switching(U-RS)and bipolar resistive switching(B-RS)with the CC-controlled transition between the two switching behaviors.Multilevel resistance states in the 24-nm device between a high-resistance state(HRS)and an LRS were achieved by controlling the set-CC(from 5 mA to CC-free)and the reset stop voltage(from–0.5 to–1.0 V)during the set and reset processes,respectively.The analog RS behavior of the device was further investigated with appropriate pulse measurements to emulate vital synaptic functions,including long-term potentiation(LTP),long-term depression(LTD),spike-rate-dependent plasticity(SRDP),spike-timing-dependent plasticity(STDP),paired-pulse facilitation(PPF),paired-pulse depression(PPD)and post-tetanic potentiation(PTP).Overall,the deta

Medical image super-resolution is a fundamental challenge due to absorption and scattering in tissues.These challenges are increasing the interest in the quality of medical images.Recent research has proven that the rapid progress in convolutional neural networks(CNNs)has achieved superior performance in the area of medical image super-resolution.However,the traditional CNN approaches use interpolation techniques as a preprocessing stage to enlarge low-resolution magnetic resonance(MR)images,adding extra noise in the models and more memory consumption.Furthermore,conventional deep CNN approaches used layers in series-wise connection to create the deeper mode,because this later end layer cannot receive complete information and work as a dead layer.In this paper,we propose Inception-ResNet-based Network for MRI Image Super-Resolution known as IRMRIS.In our proposed approach,a bicubic interpolation is replaced with a deconvolution layer to learn the upsampling filters.Furthermore,a residual skip connection with the Inception block is used to reconstruct a high-resolution output image from a low-quality input image.Quantitative and qualitative evaluations of the proposed method are supported through extensive experiments in reconstructing sharper and clean texture details as compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

This research aims to analyse the comparative performance of two identical photovoltaic(PV)panels with load variations and integrating an automated water-cooling process under the climatic conditions of the United Arab Emirates.The work also presents the steps of system design,implementation and performance evaluation of the proposed PV system,and all electrical,control and mechanical components along with how they were integrated within a 100-W PV system.MATLAB/Simulink?was used only to simulate the behaviours of the PV panel under wide ranges of incident sunlight and ambient temperature.The tests were performed for a day-long operation during a clear summer day.The experimental results demonstrate an improvement in the PV system performance compared with the uncooled system by~1.6%in terms of total harvested energy using the proposed water-cooling process with a frequency of 2 minutes of cooling operation every 30 minutes during day hours.

Ground-breaking optical wireless power transfer(OWPT)techniques have gained significant attention from both academia and industry in recent decades.Powering remote systems through laser diodes(LDs)to either operate devices or recharge batteries offers several benefits.Remote LDs can remove the burden of carrying extra batteries and can reduce mission time by removing battery swap-time and charging.Apart from its appealing benefits,laser power transfer(LPT)is still a challenging task due to its low transfer efficiency.In this paper,we discuss the necessity and feasibility of OWPT and discuss several projects,working principle,system design,and components.In addition,we show that OWPT is an essential element to supply power to Internet-of-Things(IoT)terminals.We also highlight the impacts of dynamic OWPT.We outline several OWPT techniques including optical beamforming,distributed laser charging(DLC),adaptive-DLC(ADLC),simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer(SLIPT),Thing-to-Thing(T2T)OWPT,and high intensity laser power beaming(HILPB).We also deal with laser selection,hazard analysis,and received photovoltaic(PV)cell selection for OWPT systems.Finally,we discuss a range of open challenges and counter measures.We believe that this review will be helpful in integrating research and eliminating technical uncertainties,thereby promoting progress and innovation in the development of OWPT technologies.

The oil sands in Northern Alberta are the largest oil sands in the world,providing an important economic resource for the Canadian energy industry.The extraction of petroleum in the oil sands begins with the addition of hot water to the bituminous sediment,generating oil sands process-affected water(OSPW),which is acutely toxic to organisms.Trillions of litres of OSPW are stored on oil sands mining leased sites in man-made reservoirs called tailings ponds.As the volume of OSPW increases,concerns arise regarding the reclamation and eventual release of this water back into the environment.OSPW is composed of a complex and heterogeneous mix of components that vary based on factors such as company extraction techniques,age of the water,location,and bitumen ore quality.Therefore,the effective remediation of OSPW requires the consideration of abiotic and biotic constituents within it to understand short and long term effects of treatments used.This review summarizes selected chemicals and organisms in these waters and their interactions to provide a holistic perspective on the physiochemical and microbial dynamics underpinning OSPW.

Enabling high mobility applications in millimeter wave(mmWave)based systems opens up a slew of new possibilities,including vehicle communi-cations in addition to wireless virtual/augmented reality.The narrow beam usage in addition to the millimeter waves sensitivity might block the coverage along with the reliability of the mobile links.In this research work,the improvement in the quality of experience faced by the user for multimedia-related applications over the millimeter-wave band is investigated.The high attenuation loss in high frequencies is compensated with a massive array structure named Multiple Input and Multiple Output(MIMO)which is utilized in a hyperdense environment called heterogeneous networks(HetNet).The optimization problem which arises while maximizing the Mean Opinion Score(MOS)is analyzed along with the QoE(Quality of Experience)metric by considering the Base Station(BS)powers in addition to the needed Quality of Service(QoS).Most of the approaches related to wireless network communication are not suitable for the millimeter-wave band because of its problems due to high complexity and its dynamic nature.Hence a deep reinforcement learning framework is developed for tackling the same opti-mization problem.In this work,a Fuzzy-based Deep Convolutional Neural Net-work(FDCNN)is proposed in addition to a Deep Reinforcing Learning Framework(DRLF)for extracting the features of highly correlated data.The investigational results prove that the proposed method yields the highest satisfac-tion to the user by increasing the number of antennas in addition with the small-scale antennas at the base stations.The proposed work outperforms in terms of MOS with multiple antennas.

Plants are recurrently exposed to myriads of biotic and abiotic stresses leading to several biochemical and physiological variations that cause severe impacts on plant growth and survival.To overcome these challenges,plants activate two primary defense mechanisms,such as structural response(cell wall strengthening and waxy epidermal cuticle development)and metabolic changes,including the synthesis of anti-microbial compounds and proteins,especially the pathogenesis-related(PR)proteins.PR proteins are members of a super large family of defense proteins that exhibit antimicrobial activities.Their over-expression in plants provides tolerance to many abiotic and biotic stresses.PR proteins have been classified into 17 families,including PR-5–also called thaumatin-like proteins(TLPs)that involve osmotin and osmotin-like proteins(OLPs).Osmotin was first identified in tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum var.Wisconsin 38),and then its homolog proteins(OLPs)were reported from the whole plant kingdom.Osmotin and OLPs are ubiquitous in all fruits and vegetables.Their expression has been detected in various plant tissues and organs.The phylogenetic tree studies revealed that the osmotin group originated from spermatophytes.Moreover,the atomic structure of OLP has shown similarity to thaumatin and TLPs from monocot and eudicot species,which determines a strong evolutionary pressure in flowering plants for conserving thaumatin fold.This is associated with the role of these proteins against pathogens as defense molecules and to induce stress tolerance to plants against several biotic and abiotic factors.In this review,we have briefly described the development history of osmotin,including its function and mechanism to induce biotic and abiotic stress tolerance to plants.

The paper presents a new protocol called Link Stability and Transmission Delay Aware(LSTDA)for Flying Adhoc Network(FANET)with a focus on network corridors(NC).FANET consists of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)that face challenges in avoiding transmission loss and delay while ensuring stable communication.The proposed protocol introduces a novel link stability with network corridors priority node selection to check and ensure fair communication in the entire network.The protocol uses a Red-Black(R-B)tree to achieve maximum channel utilization and an advanced relay approach.The paper evaluates LSTDA in terms of End-to-End Delay(E2ED),Packet Delivery Ratio(PDR),Network Lifetime(NLT),and Transmission Loss(TL),and compares it with existing methods such as Link Stability Estimation-based Routing(LEPR),Distributed Priority Tree-based Routing(DPTR),and Delay and Link Stability Aware(DLSA)using MATLAB simulations.The results show that LSTDA outperforms the other protocols,with lower average delay,higher average PDR,longer average NLT,and comparable average TL.

To prevent irreversible damage to one’s eyesight,ocular diseases(ODs)need to be recognized and treated immediately.Color fundus imaging(CFI)is a screening technology that is both effective and economical.According to CFIs,the early stages of the disease are characterized by a paucity of observable symptoms,which necessitates the prompt creation of automated and robust diagnostic algorithms.The traditional research focuses on image-level diagnostics that attend to the left and right eyes in isolation without making use of pertinent correlation data between the two sets of eyes.In addition,they usually only target one or a few different kinds of eye diseases at the same time.In this study,we design a patient-level multi-label OD(PLML_ODs)classification model that is based on a spatial correlation network(SCNet).This model takes into consideration the relevance of patient-level diagnosis combining bilateral eyes and multi-label ODs classification.PLML_ODs is made up of three parts:a backbone convolutional neural network(CNN)for feature extraction i.e.,DenseNet-169,a SCNet for feature correlation,and a classifier for the development of classification scores.The DenseNet-169 is responsible for retrieving two separate sets of attributes,one from each of the left and right CFI.After then,the SCNet will record the correlations between the two feature sets on a pixel-by-pixel basis.After the attributes have been analyzed,they are integrated to provide a representation at the patient level.Throughout the whole process of ODs categorization,the patient-level representation will be used.The efficacy of the PLML_ODs is examined using a soft margin loss on a dataset that is readily accessible to the public,and the results reveal that the classification performance is significantly improved when compared to several baseline approaches.
