This paper proposes a novel design paradigm for circuits designed in quantum dot cellular automata （QCA） technology. Previously reported QCA circuits in the literature have generally been designed in a single layer which is the main logical block in which the inverter and majority gate are on the base layer, except for the parts where multilayer wire crossing was used. In this paper the concept of multilayer wire crossing has been extended to design logic gates in multilayers. Using a 5-input majority gate in a multilayer, a 1-bit and 2-bit adder have been designed in the proposed multilayer gate design paradigm. A comparison has been made with some adders reported previously in the literature and it has been shown that circuits designed in the proposed design paradigm are much more efficient in terms of area, the requirement of QCA cells in the design and the input-output delay of the circuit. Over all, the availability of one additional spatial dimension makes the design process much more flexible and there is scope for the customizability of logic gate designs to make the circuit compact.

Magnesium(Mg) nanocomposites are created when nano-size particles are embedded into the Mg(or Mg alloy) matrix. The Mg nanocomposites, cited as high-strength energy-saving materials of future, are a group of emerging materials with excellent combination of strength and ductility and superior specific strength property(strength-to-weight ratio). Having said this, Mg nanocomposites are considered as promising replacement for other structural alloys(i.e. aluminum and titanium) wherever low density and high strength are required, i.e. transportation, aerospace, defense, etc. To be able to apply this group of materials for real components, different failure mechanisms at ambient and elevated temperatures under static and dynamic loading condition must be well documented. Compared with other metals and alloys,rate-dependent plastic deformation(creep), at ambient and elevated temperatures, of these novel materials is not yet well studied which seems a tangible lack of knowledge. This is required since the materials in service are often exposed to medium and elevated temperatures and/or static loads for long duration of time and this encourages creep failure on them. To this end, the information and the controlling mechanisms on time/temperature-dependent response of the material need to be developed to be able to predict the response of the Mg nanocomposites where the materials are under creep conditions. This paper aims at providing an overview on(i) creep-resistant Mg alloys(as matrix) and their chemical compositions, and(ii) responses of the Mg nanocomposites at different creep conditions(time and temperature). The controlling mechanisms contributing to the strength and ductility of the Mg nanocomposites due to the presence of the nanoparticles have been reviewed briefly in the present article. Rockfill dams are mostly constructed using blasted rockfill materials obtained by blasting rocks or alluvial rockfill materials collected from the riverbeds. Behaviors of rockfill materials and their characterization signifcantly depend on breakage factor observed during triaxial loading. In this paper, two modeled rockfill materials are investigated by using medium triaxial cell. Drained triaxial tests are conducted on various sizes of modeled rockfill materials used in the two dams, and test data are analyzed accordingly. Breakage factor of rockfill material is studied and the effects of particle size and confining pressure on breakage factor are investigated using medium triaxial cell as many researchers have already conducted investigation using large triaxial cell.

Geochronological and genetic characterization of basaltic basement from western offshore basins in India

^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar geochronology,geochemistry,and Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of 30 core samples from 24 offshore drill wells in the Western offshore basins have been used to characterize the genetics of the volcanic basement from the Kutch,Mumbai,and Kerala-Konkan offshore *** from the volcanic basement rocks demonstrate extremely varied isotopic and geochemical fingerprints,which are suggestive of significantly diverse parent magma compositions and emplacement *** tholeiitic basement from Kutch Offshore basin has Ar-Ar ages that range between 60 Ma and 62 *** basement is characterised by a within-plate basalt signature,with depleted isotopic signatures similar to least contaminated Deccan Traps basalts,and a component of subducted crustal *** basement from Mumbai Offshore Basin has eruption ages between 63 Ma and 65 Ma and show a strong within-plate OIB *** and isotopic signatures are consistent with Renuion lavas and an enriched-end member of Deccan Traps ***,Kerala-Konkan Offshore Basin shows significant E-MORB affinity and is characterized by primitive-mantle signatures and least contamination from the upper continental crust,with ages of eruption between 60 Ma and 61 Ma based on obtained^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar *** study suggests that the Mumbai Offshore Basalts’mode of the eruption was comparable with onshore Deccan volcanism,whereas the basaltic basement in Kutch Offshore was formed after the main phase of Deccan eruption and may have been an offshoot of a"tail"of the main Deccan *** parent magma for the volcanic E-MORB basement in the Kerala-Konkan Offshore Basin is thought to have come from mixing along the Carlsberg Mid-Oceanic Ridge and the material from the Réunion plume with the northward movement of the Indian Plate during the Early *** is thought to have occurred concurrently with the formation of the Chagos-Laccadive Ridge.

Grasping of complicated objects is an active research area which is developing fast throughout the years. Soft grippers can be an effective solution, since they are capable of holding workpieces of various shapes and interacting with unstructured environments effectively. Soft grippers generally consist of soft, flexible and compliant materials, which are able to conform to the shape of the object so that the gripper will not deform or bruise the soft object. Fast grasping of objects with various sizes and shapes remains a challenging task for soft grippers. In the present article, a soft gripper based on bi-stable dielectric elastomer actuator(DEA) inspired by the insect-catching ability of the Venus flytrap, is designed. This soft gripper can achieve good performances in grasping various objects by a simple actuation system. The gripper can switch from one stable state to another when subject to an impulse voltage of 0.04 s. The time duration for each grasping action is 0.17 s, and no continuous voltage is required for holding the gripped object. Thus, energy consumption can be achieved as low as 0.1386 J per grasping action. The mechanism of achieving bi-stable states is related to the duration of impulse voltage applied and the resonant frequency of the structure. The present study demonstrates that bi-stable dielectric elastomer actuators are capable of achieving fast speed for grasping with very low energy consumption, which is significant in the applications to soft grippers and biomimetic robots.

Polymeric visual decoys of beetle of an invasive species called the Emerald Ash Borer （EAB）, Agrilus planipennis, are highly efficacious in luring and trapping EAB males. Although industrially scalable, the bioreplication process to t）tbricate these decoys involves several operational steps. In a simpler bioreplication process devised by us, a multi-cavity negative die of nickel is made from an array of several EAB females. This die is used to fabricate multiple decoys simultaneously by casting and ihermal curing of poly（dimethyl siloxane）. Finally, the decoys are sprayed by first a black paint and then a metallic green paint. The new bioreplication process has considerably fewer operational steps than its predecessor and can be adopted by industry.
