A new kind of hydrophobic crude oil s.rbent was.s.cces.fully developed by grafting kenaf s.ive with s.yrene monomer. In this.paper, crude oil s.rbents.were developed through regeneration method by varying the initiator concentration, monomer ratio and particle s.zes.in the range of 0.5 - 2.5 wt%, 0.5 - 2.0 wt % and 125 - 1000 μm res.ectively. This.res.arch approach for the development of crude oil s.rbent from graft modified kenaf s.ive/core and the aforementioned variable optimization has.not been reported. The effect s.udies.of the individual and combine factors.were carried out us.ng a s.atis.ical experimental des.gn matrix us.ng five-level central compos.te des.gn (CCD). Res.ond s.rface methodology (Rs.) was.us.d to optimis. and develop equations.of the aforementioned variables.(initiator concentration, monomer ratio and particle s.zes.. The optimal s.elling capacity of 616% and 267% lower retention were achieved at initiator concentration, monomer ratio and particle s.ze of 12.5 wt%, 1.50 wt% and 562 μm res.ectively. TGA-DTA, XRD and BET analys.s.were carried out on optimis.d s.mple and, FTIR was.carried on both unmodified (UG) and optimized s.rbent. Further computations.were done for grafting efficiency (GE), homopolymers.and dens.ty. The findings.dis.lay the effect of the three variables.and navigation equations.were generated for further inves.igations.on them. However, the res.lts.s.ow the feas.bility and robus.nes. of facile oil s.rption.

The Effect of Curative Concentration on Thermal and Mechanical Properties.of Flexible Epoxy Coated Jute Fabric Reinforced Polyamide 6 Compos.tes

Many res.archers.have s.own interes. in the reinforcement of commodity thermoplas.ic with natural fibers. However, the drawback of natural fibers.is.their low thermal proces.ing temperatures. that border around 200℃. In this.inves.igation, we tried to improve the thermal s.ability of natural fibers.with the us. of flexible epoxy s.rface coating that could facilitate proces.ing with engineering thermoplas.ics. Jute fabric and Polyamide 6 (PA6) compos.tes.were prepared by compres.ion molding. The thermal decompos.tion characteris.ics.of the jute fabric were evaluated by us.ng thermo gravimetric analys.s.(TGA). Mechanical analys.s.was.conducted to evaluate tens.le tes. and three point bending tes. of compos.te. It was.found that thermal degradation res.s.ance of jute fabric was.improved by coating with flexible epoxy res.n. Moreover, the flexural modulus.improved with increas.ng curative concentration. The interfacial interaction between the epoxy and PA6 was.clearly indicated by the photo micrographs.of the polis.ed cros. s.ctions.of the coated and uncoated jute fabric/PA6 compos.tes.

In this.work, thermos.tting res.n, epoxy and fibre loading were us.d in optimizing the s.rength at which ABs.epoxy coated kenaf fibre (EKF) compos.tes.would perform apparently during mechanical s.res.. Kenaf bas. fibres.were res.n coated before incorporated into engineering thermoplas.ic ABs.at its.proces.ing temperature (230°C), cured in-s.tu at internal mixer and later compres.ion moulded at 210°C under 65 kg/cm2pres.ure. The res.lts.s.owed the optimum level of tens.le s.rength with thermos.t and fibre loading as.well as.increas. in s.rong interfacial bonding while the hardnes. values.increas.d with increas.ng thermos.tting and fibre contents. Both the tens.le and flexural modulus.apparently increas.d as.the fibre contents.increas.d.
