Efficacy and Safety of the Atrial Septal Defect Closure for Patients with Absent or Malaligned Aortic Rim Using a Figulla Flex II Device Flared and Straddling Behind the Aorta

Background:Although transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect(ASD)is safe and effective for patients with sufficient rim,ASD patients with absent and/or malaligned aortic and/or superior rim have higher risks of device embolization and cardiac *** have treated such high-risk patients using a Figulla Flex II(FFII)device shaped flared and straddling behind the aorta because this method would avoid such serious ***,its long-term efficacy and safety remain ***,the midterm efficacy and safety of this method were ***:We retrospectively evaluated the outcome of 47 consecutive patients with such rim(age 6–73 years,weight 17–75 kg,31 females)treated with this method at our hospital between February 2016 and September *** make the flared and straddling shape,we selected a FFII 4–6 mm larger than the balloon sizing diameter by stop-flow *** also studied the device shape,the disc pressure to the Valsalva wall and their changes over 6 months by transesophageal ***:All procedures were successful,and leakage disappeared within 1 *** a mean follow up of 37±12 months,complications included a transient sinus node dysfunction and one I°atrioventricular block within 3 *** device shape changed from bulky to thin:the device waist and thickness significantly decreased by around 1.5 mm and 3.5 mm,respectively(p<0.05),but the two discs remained flared and straddling behind the aorta over 6 months;therefore,the disc edges seldom pressed the Valsalva wall perpendicularly,even though the inner plane of either disc often slightly pressed the ***:ASD closure using a FFII shaped flared and straddling behind the aorta is probably effective and safe for patients with absent and/or malaligned aortic and/or superior rim although requiring care for conduction disorders.

Kawasaki disease(KD) is an acute and self-limited febrile disease characterized by fever, polymorphic rash, bulbar conjunctival congestion, redness of the lip mucosa, unilateral cervical lymphadenopathy, erythema, and edema of the extremities. KD was reported first by Tomisaku Kawasaki, a Japanese scholar, in 1967[1]. Since then, the disease has been reported worldwide, with significant differences observed in its incidence in different regions.

Wave Propagation Simulation Using the CIP Method of Characteristic Equations

We apply the CIP(Cubic Interpolated Profile)scheme to the numerical sim-ulation of the acoustic wave propagation based on characteristic *** CIP scheme is based on a concept that both the wavefield and its spatial deriv ative propa-gate along the same characteristic curves derived from a hyperbolic differential *** describe the derivation of the characteristic equations for the acoustic waves from the basic equations by means of the directional splitting and the diagonaliza-tion of the coffcient matrix,and establish geophysical boundary *** the CIP scheme calculates both the wavefield and its spatial derivatives,it is easy to realize the boundary conditions *** also show some numerical simula-tion examples and the CIP can simulate acoustic w ave propagation with high stability and less numerical *** method of characteristics with the CIP scheme is a very powerful technique to deal w ith the wave propagation in complex geophysical problems.

Flexible p–n thermoelectric generator(TEG)technology has rapidly advanced with power enhancement and size *** achieve a stable power supply and highly efficient energy conversion,absolute chemical stability of n-type materials is essential to ensuring large temperature differences between device terminals and ambient *** the aim of improving the long-term stability of the n-type operation of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)in air and water,this study uses cationic surfactants,such as octylene-1,8-bis(dimethyldodecylammonium bromide)(12-8-12),a gemini surfactant,to stabilize the nanotubes in a coating,which retains the n-doped state for more than 28 days after exposure to air and water in *** with 10 p-n units of 12-8-12/CNT(n-type)and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate/CNT(p-type)layers are manufactured,and their water stability is *** initial maximum output of 16.1μW(75 K temperature difference)is retained after water immersion for 40 days without using a sealant to prevent TEG module *** excellent stability of these CNT-based TEGs makes them suitable for underwater applications,such as battery-free health monitoring and information gathering systems,and facilitates the development of soft electronics.

Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Ammonia generation in full-scale swine wastewater purification facilities

The activated sludge process to remove nitrogen and biochemical oxygen demand （BOD） is reportedly cost-effective for swine wastewater treatment, and it use has thus increased in pig farming. Nitrous oxide （N20） is generated on farms as an intermediate product in nitrification and denitrification, and methane （CH4） is also generated from organic degradation under anaerobic conditions by microorganisms in manure or wastewater. This study was carried out at five activated sludge treatment facilities across Japan between August 2014 and January 2015. Measurements were conducted over several weeks at wastewater purification facilities for swine farms： two in Chiba prefecture （East Japan）, two in Okayama prefecture （West Japan）, and one in Saga （Southern Japan）. Taking several environmental fluctuations into account, we collected measurement data continuously day and night, during both high-temperature and low-temperature periods. The results indicated that CH4 and N20 emission factors were 0.91% （kgCHa·kg volatile solids^-1） and 2.87% （g N2O-N·kg total N^-1）, respectively. Ammonia emissions were negligible in all of the measurements from the wastewater facilities. The N20 emission factor calculated under this experiment was low compared to our previous finding （5.0%; g N2O-N·kg N^-1） in a laboratory experiment. In contrast, the CH4 emission factor calculated herein was rather high compared to the laboratory measurements. There was great variation in daily GHG emission factors measured in the actual wastewater treatment facilities. In particular, the N2O emission rate was affected by several environmental conditions at each facility location, as well as by the management of the wastewater treatment.

The introduction of serum prostate-specific antigen （PSA） in the 1980s has dramatically altered and benefited the initial diagnosis of prostate cancer. However, the widespread use of PSA testing has resulted in overdetection and overtreatment of potentially indolent disease. Thus, a clinical dilemma today in the management of prostate cancer is to discern men with aggressive disease who need definitive treatment from men whose disease are not lethal. Although several serum and tissue biomarkers have been evaluated during the past decade, improved markers are still needed to enhance the accuracy, with which patients at risk can be discerned and treated more aggressively. The cancer/testis antigens （CTAs） are a group of proteins that are restricted to the testis in the normal adult, but are aberrantly expressed in several types of cancers. Because of their restricted expression pattern, the CTAs represent attractive biomarker candidates for cancer diagnosis/prognosis. Furthermore, several studies to date have reported the differential expression of CTAs in prostate cancer. Here, we review recent developments that demonstrate the potential of the CTAs as biomarkers to discern the a^ressive Dhenotvoe of orostate cancer.

Green Route for Fabrication of Water-Treatable Thermoelectric Generators

Since future energy harvesting technologies require stable supply and high-efficiency energy conversion,there is an increasing demand for high-performance organic thermoelectric generators(TEGs)based on waterproof thermoelectric *** poor stability of n-type organic semiconductors in air and water has proved a roadblock in the development of reliable thermoelectric power *** developed a simple green route for preparing n-type carbon nanotubes(CNTs)by doping with cationic surfactants and fabricated films of the doped CNTs using only aqueous *** thermoelectric properties of the CNT films were investigated in *** nanotubes doped using a cationic surfactant(cetyltrimethylammonium chloride(CTAC))retained an n-doped state for at least 28 days when exposed to water and air,indicating higher stability than that for contemporary CNT-based thermoelectric *** wrapping of the surfactant molecules around the CNTs is responsible for blocking oxygen and water from attacking the CNT walls,thus,extending the lifetime of the n-doped state of the *** also fabricated thermoelectric power conversion modules comprising CTAC-doped(n-type)and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate-(SDBS-)doped(p-type)CNTs and tested their stabilities in *** modules retained 80±2:4%of their initial maximum output power(at a temperature difference of 75℃)after being submerged in water for 30 days,even without any sealing fills to prevent device *** remarkable stability of our CNT-based modules can enable the development of reliable soft electronics for underwater applications.

Characterization of 14 anonymous nuclear loci in Pinus thunbergii and their cross-species transferability

We characterized 14 anonymous nuclear loci from Pinus thunbergii Parl., an important pine species native to Japan. One hundred and twenty-six single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） were identified from these loci, giving a frequency of 1 SNP per 51 bp. Nucleotide di- versity （0） ranged from 1.06 × 10^-3 to 11.87 × 10^-3, with all average of 4.99 × 10^-3. Only one locus （mK45） deviated significantly from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Thirteen of 14 loci were applicable in other pine species. These loci will be useful for nucleotide variation studies and will provide material for SNP-based marker development in P. thun- bergii and related species.

User-centric data sharing is essential to encourage citizens'active participation in the digital *** key to smart cities,a form of the digital economy,is the promotion of public use of citizen ***,it is not easy to utilize data without citizens’*** this study,we took a technological approach to these *** access(UMA)is a well-known framework for delegating resource access rights to others on the *** UMA,authorization mechanisms are designed to be centralized so that resource owners can centrally manage access rights for various resources stored in different ***,the lack of transparency in the authorization mechanism is a barrier to its implementation in large-scale systems such as smart *** this study,we developed a blockchain-based cross-domain authorization architecture that enables a resource-sharing ecosystem in which organizations that wish to utilize data can freely trade with each *** proposed architecture solves the transparency problem that conventional authorization systems have had by designing the authorization mechanism on blockchain *** implemented the proposed architecture as smart contracts and evaluated its processing *** resultant time required for delegating access rights and accessing resources was less than 500 ***,we found that the fluctuation in the processing time overhead was *** on these results,we concluded that performance degradation with the proposed architecture is minor.

Water electrolysis technology holds the perfect promise of the hydrogen production,yet control of efficiency and rate of water electrolysis greatly relies on the availability of high-performance electrode materials for kinetic-sluggish oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Accordingly,substantial endeavors have been made to explore advanced electrode materials over the past ***,RuO_(2) and RuO_(2)-based materials have been demonstrated to be promising for OER due to their remarkable electrocatalytic activity and pH-universal ***,the great achievements and progresses of this flourishing spot are comprehensively reviewed,which are started by a general description of OER to understand the reaction mechanism in ***,the key advantages and issues of RuO_(2) towards OER are also introduced,followed by proposing many advanced strategies for further promoting the electrocatalytic OER performance of RuO_(2).Finally,the daunting challenges and future progresses of RuO_(2) electrocatalysts toward practical water oxidation are highlighted,aiming to provide guidance for the fabrication of desirable RuO_(2)-based electrocatalysts toward OER.
