Strong variation in frequencies of male and female determiners between neighboring housefly populations

Sex-determination mechanisms evolve rapidly and vary between ***,polymorphic systems are found,like in the *** the dynamics and stability of such systems can provide a better understanding of the evolution of sex-determination *** the housefly,dominant male-determining loci(M)can lie not only on the Y chromosome(M^(Y)),but also on autosomes(M^(A))or the X chromosome(M^(X)).M enforces male development by inhibiting the female-determining gene transformer(tra).A mutant tra allele,tra^(D),is insensitive to M and is a dominant female determiner.M^(Y) prevails at high latitudes and polymorphic M loci together with tra^(D) at low *** get more insight into the stability and frequencies of these sex determiners with mutually exclusive dominance,we investigated 5 regional Spanish *** found strong variation among *** populations with hemizygous M^(III) were found,2 contained homozygous M^(X) with additional hemizygous MI and M^(II) in 1 *** population contained homozygous and hemizygous M^(X) with additionally hemizygous M^(II).All females in populations with homozygous M,had tra^(D),whereas no tra^(D) was found in populations without homozygous *** results indicate locally stable systems may either harbor a single hemizygous M and no tra^(D),corresponding to a male heterogametic system,or homozygous and/or multiple M and heterozygous tra^(D),reminiscent of a female heterogametic *** support that M loci can accumulate in the presence of a dominant female *** migration between populations may contribute to the stability of these systems.

Rapidly solidified hypereutectic Al-Si alloys were prepared by powder hot extrusion. By eliminating vacuum degassing procedure, the fabrication routine was simplified. The tensile fracture mechanisms at room temperature and elevated temperature were investigated by SEM fractography. Compared with KS282 casting material, the tensile strength of rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy is greatly improved due to silicon particles refining while its density and coefficient of thermal expansion are lower than those of KS282. The wear resistance of RS AlSi is better than that of KS282.

Impacts of the Contributions of FDI and Remittances on the Economic Growth in Asia and Latin America: A Comparative Study

Foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign remittance have been the main sources of external capital inflows for many developing *** has been credited as the main driver of rapid economic growth in many Asian countries/regions in recent ***,this effect of FDI on long-run economic growth has not been observed in Latin American ***,the question is whether FDI and an increase in foreign remittances in the past two decades have achieved expected positive results in terms of economic growth for emerging *** study uses a generalized method of moments (GMM) dynamic panel model to quantify the impacts of FDI and foreign remittances as sources of foreign capital for Asia and Latin *** findings suggest that FDI and remittances perform differently in different regions in terms of their impacts on GDP *** that have specific policies (i.e.,industrial policy,domestic content requirement,and export production targets) for FDI are likely to derive more significant benefits from FDI and *** countries that are emerging or lagging should learn from the countries with positive outcomes and implement similar policies.

Evaluation of Potential Productivity of Woody Energy Crops on Marginal Land in China

Energy crops are a basic material in the bioenergy industry, and they can also mitigate carbon emissions and have environ- mental benefits when planted on marginal lands. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential productivity of energy crops on marginal lands in China. A mechanistic model, combined with energy crop and land use characteristics, and meteorological and soil parameters, was used to simulate the potential productivity of energy crops. There were three main results. 1） The total marginal land in China was determined to be 104.78 × 106 ha. The 400-mm precipitation boundary line, which is the dividing line between the semi-humid and semi-arid zones in China, also divided the marginal land into shrub land and sparse forest land in the southeast and bare land, bare rock land, and saline alkali land in the northeast. 2） The total area of the marginal land suitable for planting energy crops was determined to be 55.82 × 106 ha, with Xanthoceras sorbifolia and Cerasus humilis mainly grown in the northern China, Jatropha curcas and Comus wilsoniana mainly grown in the southwest and southeast, and Pistacia chinensis mainly grown in the central area, while also having a northeast-southwest zonal distribution. 3） Taking the highest yield in overlapping areas, the potential productivity of target energy crops was determined to be 32.63 × 106 t/yr. Without considering the overlapping areas, the potential productivity was 6.81× 106 t/yr from X. sorbifolia, 8.86× 106t/yr from C. humilis, 7.18 ×106t/yr from J. curcas, 9.55 × 106t/yr from P. chinensis, and 7.78 ×106 t/yr from C. wilsoniana.
