Immediate effect of high-intensity exercise on brain-derived neurotrophic factor in healthy young adults:A systematic review and meta-analysis

In recent years,there has been a growing interest in exploring alternative treatments for bone *** tissue engineering has turned its attention to plant extracts containing osteogenic flavonoids as potential promoters of bone *** our study,we specifically investigated the extract of Petroselinum crispum,a plant known for its abundance of osteogenic flavonoids such as apigenin,quercetin,and *** objective was to compare the total flavonoid content(TFC)and their accumulation in different *** obtained hydrolyzed aqueous extracts from the leaves of parsley plants(grown for 12 weeks in the field),weekly embryogenic cultures,and suspension cell *** TFC,measured in mg quercetin equivalent per gram of dry weight(QE mg/g dw),was found to be 53.81±0.97 for 52 g dw of leaves(1 kg plant fw),31.10±1.52 for 420 g dw of embryogenic cultures,and 11.80±0.76 for 210 g dw of cell ***,only the leaves and embryogenic cultures showed significant accumulation of osteogenic flavonoids,with apigenin levels of 1.8±0.3 and 0.32±0.02 mg/g dw,and kaempferol levels of 1.0±0.18 and 0.2±0.01 mg/g dw,*** findings indicate that embryogenic cultures have the potential to prod.ce up to 40%more apigenin in 12 weeks compared to 1 kg of parsley plant,thanks to their superior biomass reprod.ctive *** results present a promising biotechnological approach for generating extracts enriched with bioactive compounds,which can be further utilized in in vitro osteogenic testing.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest(OHCA)is one of the three leading causes of death in industrialized countries.[1,2]Some studies have described the impact of the first COVID-19 pandemic wave in terms of the number of cases and OHCA survival rates in various regions,[3-5]but few have addressed the relationship between the successive phases and how they affected OHCA.[6,7]The 14-d cumulative incidence peaked at more than 990 cases,with these rates remaining above 200 for an eight-month period between 15 March 2020 and 15 March 2021 in Madrid,Spain.

In the tropics,frequent nitrogen(n)fertilization of grazing areas can potentially increase nitrous oxide(n_(2)O)*** application of nitrification inhibitors has been reported as an effective management practice for potentially reducing n loss from the soil-plant system and improving n use efficiency(nUE).The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the co-application of nitrapyrin(a nitrification inhibitor,nI)and urea in a tropical Andosol on the behavior of n and the emissions of n_(2)O from autotrophic and heterotrophic nitrification.A greenhouse experiment was performed using a soil(pH 5.9,organic matter content 78 g kg^(-1),and n 5.6 g kg^(-1))sown with Cynodon nlemfuensis at 60%water-filled pore space to quantify total n_(2)O emissions,n_(2)O derived from fertilizer,soil ammonium(nH_(4)^(+))and nitrate(nO_(3)^(-)),and *** study included treatments that received deionized water only(control,nI).no significant differences were observed in soil nH_(4)^(+)content between the UR and UR+nI treatments,probably because of soil mineralization and nO_(3)^(-)prod.ced by heterotrophic nitrification,which is not effectively inhibited by *** 56 d,n_(2)O emissions in UR(0.51±0.12 mg n_(2)O-n concluded that the soil organic n mineralization and heterotrophic nitrification are the main processes of nH_(4)^(+)and nO_(3)^(-)***,it was found that n_(2)O emissions were partially a consequence of the direct oxidation of the soil's organic n via heterotrophic nitrification coupled to ***,the results suggest that nitrapyrin would likely exert significant mitigation on n_(2)O emissions only if a substantial n surplus exists in soils with high organic matter content.

Thyroid Cartilage Chondrosarcoma Review: Management and Prognosis of a Rare Tumor

Objective: This article is a critical review of the literature concerning thyroid cartilage chondrosarcoma and is particularly focused on the management and prognosis of this rare entity. Study Design: A review of all the cases of thyroid cartilage chondrosarcoma reported in the literature up to January 2013. Methods: The search was carried out through the introd.ction of the MeSH terms: Chondrosarcoma, Laryngeal Cartilages, Thyroid Cartilage, Therapeutics. All the studies related to thyroid cartilage chondrosarcoma were selected together with a newly presented case. Results: A total of 47 cases have been described in the literature, and 35 of these include sufficient data for statistical analysis. The age of patients ranged from 40 to 77 years, with a male predilection (88.6%). The main symptoms were neck mass and hoarseness. Grade I and II tumors were most frequent. A total of 13 cases described an extension of the tumor beyond the thyroid cartilage. The most common treatment was partial laryngectomy (50%). All patients who died were male, with grade II or II-III tumor or associated sarcoma, had metastases and received radiotherapy in addition to total laryngectomy. Conclusion: Patient age and tumor size does not influence the prognosis. Tumor grade I and I-II have good prognoses, whereas the prognosis is unpredictable in tumors between grade II and III. Patients with associated sarcoma, or metastasis, have a worse prognosis. Partial laryngectomy is a good therapeutic option, although total laryngectomy is sometimes required in order to ensure complete resection.

Analysis of the Performance of a Dehulling System for Confectionary Sunflower Seeds

Confectionary sunflower, which has a larger size and lower oil content than oilseed sunflower, has a considerable market, since it is used for birdfeed and human consumption. The characteristics of use of confectionary sunflower seeds require a dehulling process that is efficient in the removal of the hull and that also allows obtaining a prod.ct consisting mainly of whole kernels. Response surface methodology was used to determine an optimal combination of working conditions in the dehulling process of confectionary sunflower seeds. Optimization factors were impact speed, expressed in terms of the peripheral speed (28.3 -41.9 m/s), and moisture content of the seeds (4% -14%, dry basis—db). A central composite rotatable design (CCRD) was used to develop models for the responses (dehulling ability—DA and percentage of whole kernels—WK). Applying the desirability function method, the optimal values of the factors were determined using maximum WK and maximum DA as criteria. The results of the optimization technique suggest that by dehulling Mycogen 9338 confectionary sunflower seeds at 12.3% db and 32.5 m/s, the maximum values of DA and WK (72.6% and 63%, respectively) would be obtained. The moisture value defined as optimal determines a requirement of humidification of the seeds prior to dehulling, establishing the need for a technical and economic feasibility study.

Recycling of Glass Fibers from Fiberglass Polyester Waste Composite for the Manufacture of Glass-Ceramic Materials

This work presents the feasibility of reusing a glass fiber resulting from the thermolysis and gasification of waste composites to obtain glass-ceramic tiles. Polyester fiberglass (PFG) waste was treated at 550℃ for 3 h in a 9.6 dm3 thermolytic reactor. This process yielded an oil (≈24 wt%), a gas (≈8 wt%) and a solid residue (≈68 wt%). After the polymer has been removed, the solid residue is heated in air to oxidize residual char and remove surface contamination. The cleaning fibers were converted into glass-ceramic tile. A mixture consisting of 95 wt% of this solid residue and 5% na2O was melted at 1450℃ to obtain a glass frit. Powder glass samples (n sintered and crystallized at 1013℃, leading to the formation of wollastonite-plagioclase glass-ceramic materials for architectural applications. Thermal stability and crystallization mechanism have been studied by Differential Thermal Analysis. Mineralogy analyses of the glass-ceramic materials were carried out using X-ray Diffraction.

Renal function and choroidal thickness using swept-source optical coherence tomography in diabetic patients

AIM: To assess the relationship between choroidal thickness and renal function in diabetic patients. METHODS: Cross-sectional retrospective clinical study of 42 eyes of 21 ocular treatment-na?ve diabetic patients. Demographic data included: age, sex, type and course of diabetes. Ocular data included: severity of diabetic retinopathy;retinal thickness at the central macular region, as well as choroidal thickness at the central and paracentral quadrants, using automatically generated maps by swept-source optical coherence tomography;presence of cystic macular edema;and ocular axial length(AXL). Lab-test parameters included: glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c), albuminuria, albumin/creatinine ratio in urine, and glomerular filtration rate. RESULTS: A significant negative correlation was mainly observed between several choroidal thicknesses, age(Pnd ocular AXL(Pn the contrary, a significant positive correlation was found between all choroidal thicknesses, HbA1 c(Pnd albuminuria(PnCLUSIOn: Choroidal thickness can represent an additional tool to help clinicians predicting the renal status in ocular treatment-na?ve diabetic patients.
