The success of a.y wa.te ma.a.ement system requires a.cura.e a.d up-to-da.e a.>a.>data on quantity, composition of waste. Waste generation data from household are needed to address issues relating to municipal solid wastes such as management method, performance improvement, policy, regional and local planning, administrative, cost accounting, design and operation of landfill facilities and environmental quality. This study was conducted to provide empirical data on generation rates, quantity and composition, management practices, challenges and strategies from urban household. Waste collection, weighing, questionnaires survey and field observation were methods used during the study. Waste was collected and weighed from 60 households using multi-stage sampling technique for seven days. Questionnaires were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20 and Excel. A total of 1125.2 kg of waste was recorded. a. style="font-fa.ily:Verda.a.">The a.era.e household wa.te genera.ion wa. 3 kg per da. with per ca.ita.genera.ion ra.e of 0.41 kg/ca./da.. The compositiona. a.a.ysis showed tha. Orga.ic (53%), Pla.tic (11%), Textile (6%), Meta. (2%), Gla.s (1%), Pa.er a.d Ca.dboa.d 4% a.d others (22%). Solid wa.te ma.a.ement pra.tices a.e very rudimenta.y. Burning (53.7%) a.d Open Dumping (30%) were found to be the most commonly used method of disposa. with very limited collection service (33.3%) a.d segrega.ion. The most cha.lenges fa.ed by households were communa. disposa. a.ea.(66.7%) a.d wa.te service providers (21.7%) stora.e bins (11.6%). Wa.te to energy (48.3%) a.d compositing (23.3%) were the most considered option for wa.te ma.a.ement by the respondents.
