The campo rupestre sensu lato is a vegetation type that occurs in South American mountains,supports a distinctive flora characterized by high rates of endemism,high herbaceous species richness and often-neglected but also species-rich of the arboreal *** aimed to investigate how environmental factors and elevation are associated with the distribution and diversity of woody species in different rupestrian vegetation types across South *** a database of 2,049 woody species from 185 sites across four vegetation types within the campo rupestre,we assessed how the vegetation types were grouped according to their floristic composition and number of shared indicator species,as well as by using different beta diversity *** most important variables from a set of 27 variables(***,geo-edaphic and climatic)explaining species distribution were identified using redundancy analysis(RDA)and variation partitioning *** distribution of vegetation types was related to both environmental and spatial fractions,with a set of 17 variables retained(***,grass cover and temperature seasonality as the most important variables).There was an association between the floristic composition of each vegetation type and the elevation *** the identified vegetation types are floristically related,they are distinguished by exclusive and habitat-specialist woody *** uniqueness of vegetation types should be considered in terms of complementarity for the conservation of campos rupestres.

BACKGROUND Two-stage hepatectomy(TSH)is a well-established surgical technique,used to treat bilateral colorectal liver metastases(CRLM)with a small future liver remnant(FLR).However,in classical TSH,drop-out is reported to be around 25%-40%,due to insufficient FLR increase or progression of ***-arterial radioembolization(TARE)has been described to control locally tumor growth of liver malignancies such as hepatocellular carcinoma,but it has been also reported to induce a certain degree of contralateral liver hypertrophy,even if at a lower rate compared to portal vein embolization or *** SUMMARY Herein we report the case of a 75-year-old female patient,where TSH and TARE were combined to treat bilateral *** to computed tomography(CT)-scan,the patient had a hepatic lesion in segment VI-VII and two other confluent lesions in segment ***,one-stage posterior right sectionectomy plus left lateral sectionectomy(LLS)was *** liver volumetry estimated a FLR of 38%(segments I-IV-V-VIII).However,due to a more than initially planned,extended right resection,simultaneous LLS was not performed and the patient underwent selective TARE to segments II-III after the first *** CT-scan performed after TARE showed a reduction of the treated lesion and a FLR increase of 55%.Carcinoembryonic antigen and CA 19.9 decreased *** three months later after the first surgery,LLS was performed and the patient was discharged without any postoperative *** According to this specific experience,TARE was used to induce liver hypertrophy and simultaneously control cancer progression in TSH settings for bilateral CRLM.

Magnetic resonance enterography in Crohn's disease: How we do it and common imaging findings

Crohn's disease(CD) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, with unpredictable clinical course by phases of relapses alternating with other of quiescence. The etiology is multifactorial and is still not completely known; globally the westernization of lifestyle is causing an increasing incidence of CD, with peak age of 20-30 years. The diagnostic workup begins with the evaluation of the clinical history, physical examination and laboratory tests. However, the clinical assessment is subjected interobserver variability and, occasionally, the symptoms of acute and chronic inflammation may be indistinguishable. In this regards, the role of magnetic resonance(MR) enterography is crucial to determine the extension, the disease activity and the presence of any complications without ionizing radiations, making this method very suitable for young population affected by CD. The purpose of this review article is to illustrate the MR enterography technique and the most relevant imaging findings of CD, allowing the detection of small bowel involvement and the assessment of disease activity.

Prevalence of Frailty Syndrome in the Elderly and Associated Factors in Brazil

This paper aims to identify the prevalence of frailty syndrome and its association with demographic, economic, health, psychological and functional variables in Brazilian population. The study was cross-sectional and composed of 385 elderly aged from 65 years, an average age of 73.92 years. A multivariate Poisson regression was used to check for conditions associated with frailty and to determine the prevalence (α = 0.05). The prevalence of frailty was 8.7% and pre-frailty of 50.4%. The frail and pre-frail older adults showed larger and increasing prevalence ratios for marital status, difficulty performing instrumental activities of daily living, old age, involuntary loss of feces, depression and negative affections. These results can guide the establishment of preventive measures and the development of intervention strategies aimed at minimizing the adverse effects of frailty in elderly people.

This paper presents a study for finding a solution to the placement of territorial resources for multipurpose wireless services considering also the restrictions imposed by the orography of the territory itself. To solve this problem genetic algorithms are used to identify sites where to place the resources for the optimal coverage of a given area. The used algorithm has demonstrated to be able to find optimal solutions in a variety of considered situations.

Effect of the Monocyte Locomotion Inhibitory Factor (MLIF) a Natural Anti-Inflammatory Produced by E. Histolytica on Apoptosis in Human CD4 + T Lymphocytes

Apoptosis prevents the extravasation of intracellular material and the subsequent inflammatory response. Currently, it is not known whether Monocyte Locomotion Inhibitor Factor (MLIF), an anti-inflammatory pentapeptide, induces programmed cell death. We evaluated the effect of MLIF on extrinsic and intrinsic apoptosis pathways human CD4 + T lymphocytes. Cells were cultured for 24 h in RPMI-1640 medium alone (control) or in RPMI medium containing MLIF alone, PMA alone, PMA + MLIF or actinomycin D. Annexin V/propidium iodide-stained cells in early apoptosis showed that cells treated with MLIF or PMA + MLIF were not significantly different from control cells in medium;in contrast, cells treated with PMA or PMA + MLIF demonstrated significant differences from the control in delayed apoptosis. Cytochrome c and caspase 3 levels in cells treated with MLIF showed no significant differences from control cells, however, compared to the control, cells treated with PMA and PMA + MLIF exhibited a significant increase in cytochrome c and caspase 3 levels, which demonstrates that this weak induction of cell death is regulated by the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. The Fas receptor was not detected in cell culture with any of the treatments employed, suggesting that the extrinsic pathway of apoptosis is not involved. The MLIF per se does not induce apoptosis in human CD4 + T lymphocytes;there may be an additional effect of PMA + MLIF producing the low levels of cell death recorded in the late apoptosis phase. MLIF acts as a natural, biological anti-inflammatory compound produced in axenic cultures of E. histolytica that does not cause apoptosis or elicit an immune response due to its small size, which could make it a strong candidate for future clinical applications.
