The numerical approximation of the spectral-Lagrangian scheme developed by the authors in [30] for a wide range of homogeneous non-linear Boltzmann type equations is extended to the space inhomogeneous case and several shock problems are benchmark. Recognizing that the Boltzmann equation is an important tool in the analysis of formation of shock and boundary layer structures, we present the computational algorithm in section 3.3 and perform a numerical study case in shock tube geometries well modeled in for ID in x times 3D in v in section 4. The classic Riemann problem is numerically analyzed for Knudsen numbers close to continuum. The shock tube problem of Aoki et al [2], where the wall temperature is suddenly increased or decreased, is also studied. We consider the problem of heat transfer between two parallel plates with diffusive boundary conditions for a range of Knudsen numbers from close to continuum to a highly rarefied state. Finally, the classical infinite shock tube problem that generates a non-moving shock wave is studied. The point worth noting in this example is that the flow in the final case turns from a supersonic flow to a subsonic flow across the shock.

Autotomy has evolved independently several times in different animal *** frequently involves immediate functional costs,so regeneration evolved in many instances to restore the functionality of that body *** autotomy is a widespread antipredator strategy in lizards,although it may affect energy storage,locomotion dynamics,or survival in future encounters with ***,we assessed the effect of tail loss on the locomotor performance of wall lizards(Podarcis muralis),as well as the recovery of locomotor functionality of lizards with regenerated tails,and the movement dynamics of shed tails that were either intact or having regenerated *** loss had no effect on locomotion over unhindered spaces,possibly due to compensation between a negative effect on the stride of front limbs,and a positive effect of losing mass and friction *** found a clear negative impact of tail loss on locomotion in spaces with interspersed obstacles,in which tailed lizards jumped larger distances when leaving the ***,lizards that used the tail to push off the ground were able to approach the obstacles from further,so that the tail seemed to be useful when used during *** fully restores lizard’s locomotor capacities,but tail antipredator value,as indicated by the intensity of post-autotomic movements,is only partially *** these results,we propose that,together with the recovery of post-autotomy antipredator capacities,the restoration of the organismal locomotor performance may have been an important,yet frequently neglected factor in the evolution of lizard’s regeneration ability.

Ecuador has among its foods a number of potatoes and tubers that are not only nutritious, but are also attributed properties as coadjutant in the treatment of different illnesses. The objective of this study was to conduct a comparative study of the mashua tuber (Tropaeolum tuberosum spp tuberosum Ruíz & Pavón, Kuntze), in its three pink, yellow and black varieties, by comparing the physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity. The comparative study was carried out on tubers obtained in the province of Pichincha, Quito-Ecuador. The physicochemical parameters were determined by the identification of the secondary metabolites present in the hydroalcoholic extracts, the quantification of phenols and flavonoids, and the characterization of the extracts by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry and the antioxidant activity by three test methods. As a result, significant differences were found between the three varieties studied.

Anion transporters in plants play a fundamental role in volume regulation and signaling. Currently, two plasma membrane-located anion channel familiesmsLAC/sLAH and ALMTmare known. Among the ALMT family, the root-expressed ALuminium-activated Malate Transporter 1 was identified by comparison of aluminum-tolerant and Al3＋-sensitive wheat cultivars and was subsequently shown to mediate voltage-independent malate currents. In con- trast, ALMT12/QUAC1 （QUickly activating Anion Channel1） is expressed in guard cells transporting malate in an Al3＋- insensitive and highly voltage-dependent manner. so far, no information is available about the structure and mechanism of voltage-dependent gating with the QUAC1 channel protein. Here, we analyzed gating of QUACl-type currents in the plasma membrane of guard cells and QUACl-expressing oocytes revealing similar voltage dependencies and activation- deactivation kinetics. In the heterologous expression system, QUAC1 was electrophysiologically characterized at increas- ing extra- and intracellular malate concentrations. Thereby, malate additively stimulated the voltage-dependent QUAC1 activity. In search of structural determinants of the gating process, we could not identify transmembrane domains com- mon for voltage-sensitive channels. However, site-directed mutations and deletions at the C-terminus of QUAC1 resulted in altered voltage-dependent channel activity. Interestingly, the replacement of a single glutamate residue, which is con- served in ALMT channels from different clades, by an alanine disrupted QUAC1 activity. Together with C- and n-terminal tagging, these results indicate that the cytosolic C-terminus is involved in the voltage-dependent gating mechanism of QUAC1.

PurposeTo review the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnostic assessment and treatment regimens of steroid-induced bone loss.Data sourcesAn English-language literature search(MEDLInE 1966-1999)and bibliographic reviews of textbooks and review articles.study selectionCross-sectional and prospective studies with BMD measurements or fracture rate.ResultsThe greatest rate of bone loss occur during the first 6 to 12 months of steroid therapy, affecting trabecular more than cortical bone. High steroid dosage for a prolonged period, prevalent fracture, hypogonadism, older age, low calcium intake and family history of osteoporosis are risk factors for steroid-induced bone loss. Based on bone density results, patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia with a T-score below-1.5 should receive antiresorptive treatment during steroid therapy. Among the various antiresorptive agents, bisphosphonates have the strongest evidence of preventing steroid-induced bone loss.ConclusionThe most important step in the management of steroid-induced osteoporosis is the proper assessment of the individual patient's risk of bone loss, and the selection of appropriate antiresorptive agent for each patient. With the rise of linked data and knowledge graphs,the need becomes compelling to find suitable solutions to increase the coverage and correctness of data sets,to add missing knowledge and to identify and remove *** approaches-mostly relying on machine learning and natural language processing techniques-have been proposed to address this refinement goal;they usually need a partial gold standard,i.e.,some“ground truth”to train automatic *** standards are manually constructed,either by involving domain experts or by adopting crowdsourcing and human computation *** this paper,we present an open source software framework to build Games with a Purpose for linked data refinement,i.e.,Web applications to crowdsource partial ground truth,by motivating user participation through fun *** detail the impact of this new resource by explaining the specific data linking“purposes”supported by the framework(creation,ranking and validation of links)and by defining the respective crowdsourcing tasks to achieve those *** also introduce our approach for incremental truth inference over the contributions provided by players of Games with a Purpose(also abbreviated as GWAP):we motivate the need for such a method with the specificity of GWAP *** crowdsourcing;we explain and formalize the proposed process,explain its positive consequences and illustrate the results of an experimental comparison with state-of-the-art *** show this resource’s versatility,we describe a set of diverse applications that we built on top of it;to demonstrate its reusability and extensibility potential,we provide references to detailed documentation,including an entire tutorial which in a few hours guides new adopters to customize and adapt the framework to a new use case.
