Background Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a rare vascular tumor affecting infants and young children. Although benign, it can be associated with an aggressive locally growing tumor and/or a life-threatening Kasabach–Merritt phenomenon (KMP). To date, only reviews of limited cases have been performed. We, therefore, conducted a comprehensive literature search to collect relevant data and make recommendations for future treatment trials. Methods Review of the available literature between 1993 and 2017 revealed a total of 105 publications involving 215 patients of less than 21 years of age. To this, we added 12 from our department and 4 from the Cooperative Weichteilsarkomstudie database. Results We found that KMP was present in 79% of the infants, in 47% of the 1–5-year olds, in 43% of the 6–12-year olds, and in 10% of the 13–21-year-old patients. KMP was present in nearly all (94%) patients with retroperitoneal tumors and in all patients with extra-regional tumors. The median size of a KHE without KMP was 12 cm2 as compared to 49 cm2 when associated with a KMP. With complete (not further classifiable if R0 or R1) resection, all patients were cured. If inoperable, response regarding KMP/regression of tumor size was seen in 29/28% with steroid-, 47/39% with vincristine-, 44/43% with interferon alpha-, 65/61% with anti-platelet agents-, and in 97/100% with sirolimus-containing therapies. Conclusions Patients with progressive KHE should undergo resection whenever it is considered a safe option. If inoperable, sirolimus should be the first choice for treating KMP and reducing tumor size.

Under the present changing climate conditions and the observed temperature increase,it is of high importance to understand its effects on aquatic microbial life,and organisms’adaptations at the biochemical *** adjust to temperature or salinity stress and avoid cell damage,organisms alter their degree of fatty acids(FAs)***,temperature is expected to have strong effects on both the quantity and quality of FAs in aquatic *** we review some recent findings about FAs sensitivity to climate change in contrasting ***,heat waves may induce changes in the relative abundance of polyunsaturated FAs(PUFA).However,the impact of the exposure to warming waters is different in temperate and polar *** cold marine waters,high concentration of omega-3(ω3)FAs such as eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA)is promoted due to the activation of the desaturase *** this way,cells have enough energy to produce or activate antioxidant protection mechanisms and avoid oxidative stress due to heat ***,under high irradiance and heat wave conditions in temperate environments,photosystems’protection is achieved by decreasing EPA concentration due to desaturase *** FAs are transferred in aquatic food ***,any alteration in the production of essential FAs by phytoplankton(the main source ofω3)due to climate warming can be transferred to higher trophic levels,with cascading effects for the entire aquatic ecosystem.

The onset of the movement of particles placed on a horizontal rough surface subject to a vertical sinusoidal vibration is investigated through tracking experiments,theoretical analysis,and numerical simulations. The frequency of vibration needed to move particles decays exponentially with the amplitude of the oscillatory *** behavior is explained through a simple mechanism in which a forced damped harmonic oscillator with a spring constant represents all the interactions between the particle and the *** numerical results compare well with experimental data,demonstrating that the forces included in the numerical calculations suitably account for the main particle response,even though the complexity of the surface is not fully taken into *** the way in which frequency varies with amplitude could be relevant to technological applications such as cleaning of material surfaces.

Background: The hepatic hemodynamics is an essential parameter in surgical planning as well as in various disease processes. The transit time ultrasound(TTUS) perivascular flow probe technology is widely used in clinical practice to evaluate the hepatic inflow, yet invasive. The phase-contrast-MRI(PC-MRI) is not invasive and potentially applicable in assessing the hepatic blood flow. In the present study, we compared the hepatic inflow rates using the PC-MRI and the TTUS probe, and evaluated their predictive value of post-hepatectomy adverse events. Methods: Eighteen large white pigs were anaesthetized for PC-MRI and approximately 75% hepatic resection was performed under a unified protocol. The blood flow was measured in the hepatic artery(Qha), the portal vein(Qpv), and the aorta above the celiac trunk(Qca) using PC-MRI, and was compared to the TTUS probe. The Bland-Altman method was conducted and a partial least squares regression(PLS) model was implemented. Results: The mean Qpv measured in PC-MRI was 0.55 ± 0.12 L/min, and in the TTUS probe was 0.74 ± 0.17 L/min. Qca was 1.40 ± 0.47 L/min in the PC-MRI and 2.00 ± 0.60 L/min in the TTUS probe. Qha was 0.17 ± 0.10 L/min in the PC-MRI, and 0.13 ± 0.06 L/min in the TTUS probe. The Bland-Altman method revealed that the estimated bias of Qca in the PC-MRI was 32%(95% CI:-49% to 15%); Qha 17%(95% CI:-15% to 51%); and Qpv 40%(95% CI:-62% to 18%). The TTUS probe had a higher weight in predicting adverse outcomes after 75% resection compared to the PC-MRI( β= 0.35 and 0.43 vs β = 0.22 and 0.07, for tissue changes and premature death, respectively). Conclusions: There is a tendency of the PC-MRI to underestimate the flow measured by the TTUS probes. The TTUS probe measures are more predictive of relevant post-hepatectomy outcomes.

Since ancient times, unethical athletes have attempted to gain an unfair competitive advantage through the use of doping substances. A list of doping substances and methods banned in sports is published yearly by the World AntiDoping Agency （WADA）. A substance or method might be included in the List if it fulfills at least two of the following criteria： enhances sports performance; represents a risk to the athlete＇s health; or violates the spirit of sports. This list, constantly updated to reflect new developments in the pharmaceutical industry as well as doping trends, enumerates the drug types and methods prohibited in and out of competition. Among the substances included are steroidal and peptide hormones and their modulators, stimulants, glucocorticosteroids, β2-agonists, diuretics and masking agents, narcotics, and cannabinoids. Blood doping, tampering, infusions, and gene doping are examples of prohibited methods indicated on the List. From all these, hormones constitute by far the highest number of adverse analytical findings reported by antidoping laboratories. Although to date most are due to anabolic steroids, the advent of molecular biology techniques has made recombinant peptide hormones readily available. These substances are gradually changing the landscape of doping trends. Peptide hormones like erythropoietin （EPO）, human growth hormone （hGH）, insulin, and insulin-like growth factor Ⅰ （IGF-Ⅰ） are presumed to be widely abused for performance enhancement. Furthermore, as there is a paucity of techniques suitable for their detection, peptide hormones are all the more attractive to dishonest athletes. This article will overview the use of hormones as doping substances in sports, focusing mainly on peptide hormones as they represent a pressing challenge to the current fight against doping. Hormones and hormones modulators being developed by the pharmaceutical industry, which could emerge as new doping substances, are also discussed.

Stress is now a serious disease that exists due to changes in working life and food ecosystems around the *** general,it is difficult for a person to know if they are under *** to previous research,temperature,heart rate variability(HRV),humidity,and blood pressure are used to assess stress levels with the use of *** the development of sensor technology and wireless connectivity,people around the world are adopting and using smart *** this study,a bio signal detection device with Internet of Things(IoT)capability with a galvanic skin reaction(GSR)sensor is proposed and built for real-time stress *** proposed device is based on an Arduino controller and Bluetooth *** evaluate the performance of the system,physical stress is created on 10 different participants with three distinct tasks namely reading,visualizing the timer clock,and watching *** analysis is performed for identifying the three different levels of stress and obtaining the threshold values as if the person GSR voltage i.e.,relaxed for1.44 *** addition,LabVIEW is used as a data acquisition system,and a Blueterm mobile application is also used to view the sensor reading received from the device through Bluetooth communication.

Imperfections in the wheel-rail contact are one of the main sources of generation of railway vibrations. Consequently, it is essential to take expensive corrective maintenance measures, the results of which may be unknown. In order to assess the effectiveness of these measures, this paper develops a vehicle-track interaction model in the time domain of a curved track with presence of rail corrugation on the inner rail. To characterize the behavior of the track, a numerical finite element model is developed using ANSYS software, while the behavior of the vehicle is characterized by a unidirectional model of two masses developed with VAMPIRE PRO software. The overloads obtained with the dynamic model are applied to the numerical model and then, the vibrational response of the track is obtained. Results are validated with real data and used to assess the effectiveness of rail grinding in the reduction of wheel-rail forces and the vibration generation phenomenon.

Wearable monitoring devices are in demand in recent times for monitoring daily activities including ***,it is widely utilizing for preventing injuries of athletes during a practice session and in few cases,it leads to muscle *** present,emerging technology like the internet of things(IoT)and sensors is empowering to monitor and visualize the physical data from any remote location through internet *** this study,an IoT-enabled wearable device is proposing for monitoring and identifying the muscle fatigue condition using a surface electromyogram(sEMG)***,the EMG signal is utilized to display muscle *** controller,Wi-Fi module,and EMG sensor are utilized in developing the wearable *** Time-frequency domain spectrum technique is employed for classifying the threemuscle fatigue conditions including meanRMS,mean frequency,etc.A real-time experiment is realized on six different individuals with developed wearable devices and the average RMS value assists to determine the average threshold of recorded *** threshold level is analyzed by calculating the mean RMS value and concluded three fatigue conditions as>2V:Extensive);1–2V:Moderate,and<1V:*** warning alarm system was designed in LabVIEW with three color LEDs to indicate the different states of muscle ***,the device is interfaced with the cloud through the internet provided with a Wi-Fi module embedded in wearable *** data available in the cloud server can be utilized for forecasting the frequency of an individual to muscle fatigue.
