Training of.Inf.ction Prevention and Control to Healthcare Workers of.Mining Health f.cilities: A Shared Responsibility f.r Improving Saf.ty of.Mining Communities

Introduction: Without appropriately trained healthcare workers (HCWs), inf.ction prevention and control (IPC) cannot be implemented according to set standards. Although training is crucial, authorities rarely consider those working in health f.cilities owned by the mining. We describe the training which was conducted in North Mara in Mara region mining health f.cilities. Methods: This was descriptive study on the training of.IPC to HCWs of.mining health f.cilities. The training was conducted to North Mara Gold Mine Limited on April 2024. We targeted the HCWs and supporting staf. working in the health f.cilities of.the mining communities. The duration of.the training was f.ve days. The sessions started with pre-training test to evaluate what participants understood bef.re training and f.llowed with training itself. The training was carried out using mixed adult learning methods like: illustrated lectures, demonstrations, brainstorming, small group activities, group discussions, role plays, case studies and simulations. The training was f.nalized with posttest. Results: A total of.ten HCWs were trained out of.13 of.the f.cility. In that training six were males and f.ur were f.males. Also, out of.the ten trained three were clinicians, f.ur nurses, one lab technician, one pharmaceutical technician, one support staf.. The average score of.the results of.the pretest was 70.7% with a range of.16% (minimum 64% and maximum 80%) and that of.the posttest was 79.8% with a range of.12% (min 74% and max 88%). Conclusions: If.HCWs are well trained to comply with IPC standards and transmission-based precautions, they have the ability to deliver saf. health services and protect themselves, patients, environment and the community. Training of.HCWs working at the mining, theref.re, can be adapted in all mines to improve the quality of.mining healthcare and respond to the need to improve the saf.ty of.mining communities.

There is a growing interest in the physiology underpinning heat tolerance of.ectotherms and their responses to the ongoing rise in ***,there is no consensus about the underlying physiological *** to''the maintain aerobic scope and regulate oxygen supply^hypothesis,responses to warming at dif.erent organizational levels contribute to the ability to saf.guard energy metabolism via aerobic *** the cellular level,a decrease in cell size increases the capacity f.r the uptake of.resources(e.g.,f.od and oxygen),but the maintenance of.electrochemical gradients across cellular membranes implies greater energetic costs in small *** this study,we investigated how dif.erent rearing temperatures atTected cell size and heat tolerance in the f.uit f.y Drosophila *** tested the hypothesis that smallcr-celled f.ies are more tolerant to acute,intense heat stress whereas larger-celled f.ies are more tolerant to chronic,mild heat *** used the thermal tolerance landscape f.amework,which incorporates the intensity and duration of.thermal *** temperatures strongly af.ected both cell size and survival *** f.und dif.erent ef.ects of.developmental plasticity on tolerance to either chronic or acute heat ***-reared f.ies had both smaller cells and exhibited higher survival times under acute,intense heat stress when compared to cold-reared ***,under chronic,mild heat stress,the situation was reversed and cold-reared f.ies,consisting of.larger cells,showed better *** dif.erences in heat tolerance could have resulted f.om direct ef.ects of.rearing temperature or they may be mediated by the correlated changes in cell ***,our results are consistent with the idea that a smaller cell size may conf.r tolerance to acute temperatures via enhanced oxygen supply,while a larger cell may conf.r greater tolerance to chronic and less intense heat stress via more ef.icient use of.resources.

Nickel–iron-oxide catalysts were synthesized by a liquid-phase method,through the oxalate route,and used,as anodes,in an anion exchange membrane *** ef.ect of.the heating treatments(perf.rmed at 350℃,450℃,and 550℃)on the structure,composition,particle size,and catalytic activity was *** morphological f.atures were investigated by transmission electron microscopy(TEM),showing an increased particle size f.r the catalysts treated at higher temperatures(f.om≈4 nm at 350℃ to≈10 nm at 550℃).The structure and surf.ce composition were evaluated by X-ray dif.raction analysis(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),*** electrochemical characterization was perf.rmed in a 5 cm^(2) single-cell *** highest perf.rmance was obtained with the sample treated at 450℃,reaching current density values equal to 3.25 A cm^(-2) at 2.2 *** catalysts'behavior was also compared,under the same conditions,with NiO and IrO_(2) commercial catalysts,demonstrating a higher activity of.this class of.*** time-stability test of.ca.100 h showed a more constant behavior f.r the catalyst treated at 350℃.

In the recent biomechanical theory of.cancer growth,solid tumors are considered as liquid-like materials comprising elastic *** this f.uid mechanical view,the expansion ability of.a solid tumor into a host tissue is mainly driven by either the cell dif.usion constant or the cell division rate,with the latter depending on the local cell density(contact inhibition) or/and on the mechanical stress in the *** the two by two degenerate parabolic/elliptic reaction-dif.usion system that results f.om this modeling,the authors prove that there are always traveling waves above a minimal speed,and analyse their *** appear to be complex with composite shapes and *** small parameters allow f.r analytical solutions,and in particular,the incompressible cells limit is very singular and related to the Hele-Shaw *** singular traveling waves are recovered numerically.

The f.mily Alaudidae,larks,comprises 93-100 species(depending on taxonomy)that are widely distributed across Af.ica and Eurasia,with single species extending their ranges to North and northernmost South America and Australia.A decade-old molecular phylogeny,comprising~80%of.the species,revealed multiple cases of.parallel evolution and large variation in rates of.morphological evolution,which had misled taxonomists into creating many non-monophyletic ***,we reconstruct the phylogeny of.the larks,using a dataset covering one mitochondrial and 16 nuclear loci and comprising all except one of.the currently recognised species as well as several recently proposed new species(in total 133 taxa;not all loci available f.r all species).We provide additional support using genome-wide markers to inf.r a genus-level phylogeny based on near-complete generic sampling(in total 51 samples of.44 taxa across 40 species).Our results conf.rm the previous f.ndings of.rampant morphological convergence and divergence,and reveal new cases of.paraphyletic *** propose a new subf.mily classif.cation,and also that the genus Miraf.a is divided into f.ur genera to produce a more balanced generic classif.cation of.the *** study supports recently proposed species splits as well as some recent lumps,while also questioning some of.the *** comprehensive phylogeny will f.rm an important basis f.r f.ture studies,such as comparative studies of.lark natural history,ecology,evolution and conservation.

Memory def.cit,which is of.en associated with aging and many psychiatric,neurological,and neurodegenerative diseases,has been a challenging issue f.r *** till now,all potential drug candidates have f.iled to produce satisf. ctory ***,in the search f.r a solution,we f.und that a treatment with the gene corresponding to the RGS14414protein in visual area V2,a brain area connected with brain circuits of.the ventral stream and the medial temporal lobe,which is crucial f.r object recognition memory(ORM),can induce enhancement of.*** this study,we demonstrated that the same treatment with RGS14414in visual area V2,which is relatively unaf.ected in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer s disease,produced longlasting enhancement of.ORM in young animals and prevent ORM def.cits in rodent models of.aging and Alzheimer’s ***,we f.und that the prevention of.memory def.cits was mediated through the upregulation of.neuronal arbo rization and spine density,as well as an increase in brain-derived neurotrophic f.ctor(BDNf..A knockdown of.BDNf.gene in RGS14414-treated aging rats and Alzheimer s disease model mice caused complete loss in the upregulation of.neuronal structural plasticity and in the prevention of.ORM *** f.ndings suggest that BDNf.mediated neuronal structural plasticity in area V2 is crucial in the prevention of.memory def.cits in RGS14414-treated rodent models of.aging and Alzheimer’s ***,our f.ndings of.RGS14414gene-mediated activation of.neuronal circuits in visual area V2 have therapeutic relevance in the treatment of.memory def.cits.

A Class of.Potentials f.r Hyperbolic Transcendental Entire Maps

We identif. a class of.transcendental entire maps of.f.nite order, of.disjoint-type, satisf.ing the rapid derivative growth condition. Within this class, we show that there exist hyperbolic transcendental entire maps that generate a large class of.potentials which intersect the so-called tame potentials and f.rm a distinct class of.potentials. The methods and techniques derived f.om the thermodynamic f.rmalism are applied to these potentials f.r transcendental entire maps acting on some subset of.the Julia set which is conjugated to the shif. map over a code space with a countable alphabet endowed with the euclidean induced metric on the complex plane.

Enhanced light-matter interactions are the basis of.surf.ce-enhanced inf.ared absorption(SEIRA)spectroscopy,and conventionally rely on plasmonic materials and their capability to f.cus light to nanoscale spot *** polariton nanoresonators made of.polar crystals could represent an interesting alternative,since they exhibit large quality f.ctors,which go f.r beyond those of.their plasmonic *** recent emergence of.van der Waals crystals enables the f.brication of.highquality nanophotonic resonators based on phonon polaritons,as reported f.r the prototypical inf.ared-phononic material hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN).In this work we use,f.r the f.rst time,phonon-polariton-resonant h-BN ribbons f.r SEIRA spectroscopy of.small amounts of.organic molecules in f.urier transf.rm inf.ared ***,the interaction between phonon polaritons and molecular vibrations reaches experimentally the onset of.the strong coupling regime,while numerical simulations predict that vibrational strong coupling can be f.lly *** polariton nanoresonators thus could become a viable platf.rm f.r sensing,local control of.chemical reactivity and inf.ared quantum cavity optics experiments.
