Physicochemical and Bacteriological profile of Bilanko and Ngamakala Peat Bog Soils (Republic of Congo)

Peatlands are unique and complex natural ecosystems that are part of the most important carbon reservoirs on our planet, home to a diversity of microorganisms responsible for fermentation, humification or peat. The aim is to understand chemical and biological indicators of peatland soils. This work aims to determine the physicochemical and bacteriological profile and lipolytic activity of soil bacteria in Bilanko peatlands. The bacterial profile with the production of lipases is carried out by classical microbiology techniques. The results show that the soils are moderately acidic with temperatures of 27.8˚C ± 0.01˚C for Bilanko and 27.1˚C ± 0.57˚C for Ngamakala. The electroconductivity (EC) varies from (9.52 ± 0.002) μS/cm to (39.01 ± 1.4) μS/cm with low turbidity of (2.04 ± 0.66) mg/L to (31.02 ± 0.84) mg/L and low ion concentrations with, however, a richness in phenolic compounds for Bilanko compared to Ngamakala. FMAT diversity ranged from (1.71 ± 0.88)∙104 UFC/g to (2.92 ± 0.07)∙105 UFC/g for Bilanko and (1.30 ± 0.73)∙104 UFC/g to (2.89 ± 0.06)∙104 UFC/g for Ngamakala. Bacillus loads ranged from (5.20 ± 1.40)∙103 CFU/g to (1.22 ± 0.13)∙104 CFU/g and from (1.11 ± 0.13)∙104 CFU/g to (9.20 ± 2.05)∙103 CFU/g;enterobacteria loads from (1.40 ± 0.76)∙103 CFU/g to (8.80 ± 1.73)∙103 CFU/g and from (1.01 ± 0.02)∙103 CFU/g to (9.20 ± 2.05)∙103 CFU/g;in Pseudomonas from 0 to (2.30 ± 0.53)∙102 CFU/g and from 0 to (8.90 ± 2.35)∙102 CFU/g for Bilanko and Ngamakala respectively. These results reveal a variation in bacterial similarity and distribution in the Bilanko and Ngamakala peat bogs.

Traumatic Diaphragmatic Hernia in Children: A Case Report

Introduction: Traumatic diaphragmatic hernia is a rare condition in children complicating closed or penetrating trauma to the abdomen and thorax. We report the case of an 11-year-old girl with a traumatic diaphragmatic hernia. Case presentation: An 11-year-old girl was seen in the paediatric surgery department for a thoracolumbar spine deformity and intermittent chest pain. These symptoms occurred after a domestic accident involving a fall from a low wall onto the thoracolumbar spine 5 months previously. The diagnosis was suggested by the presence of a left hemithoracic hydroaera and confirmed by a thoraco-abdominal CT scan. Surgical exploration revealed a linear rupture of the entire left hemi-diaphragm with herniation of the stomach, small intestine, cecum, transverse colon and omentum. We performed a double-layer suture of the diaphragmatic rupture with a non-absorbable suture without edge rejuvenation after the reduction of the hernia. The outcome was favourable with normal postoperative radiographs at one year follow-up. Conclusion: Traumatic diaphragmatic hernia, although uncommon and difficult to diagnose, is a condition that is relatively easy to manage surgically, even if it is discovered late. In all cases of trauma to the thoracolumbar spine, regular follow-up and repeat X-rays are necessary if pain persists.

neonatal Intestinal Obstruction in Acute Renal Failure in premature Infant: A Case Report

Introduction: Intestinal obstruction is a common cause of abdominal surgery in the neonate. Diagnosis is straightforward using standard radiology, and surgical technique depends on the underlying anatomical lesion. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an effective, albeit invasive, therapy for neonatal renal failure. We report a case of neonatal obstruction with severe renal failure treated by PD to highlight our hospital practice and possible remedies in a context of limited resources. Case presentation: This was a female neonate of moderate prematurity admitted on day 4 of life for management of a flat neonatal obstruction. Radiological diagnosis suggested small bowel atresia. Biological tests revealed severe renal failure with creatinine levels of 416 micromoles per liter and blood urea of 27.1 micromoles per liter. Management consisted of preoperative peritoneal dialysis for 48 hours followed by laparotomy. The intraoperative diagnosis was GROSFELD type IIIa digestive atresia. The postoperative course was favourable, transit was resumed on day 5 and the patient returned home on day 12. progress at 3 months was satisfactory. Conclusion: neonatal intestinal obstruction with renal failure in premature infants is associated with a poor prognosis, even more so if there is a delay in treatment. Peritoneal dialysis seems to be a suitable alternative for this management in our working conditions with limited resources.

Superficial Angiomyxoma of the Vulva: A Case Report

Superficial angiomyxoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor that mainly occurs in the genital region. We report the case of a 51-year-old woman with a painless vulvar mass, well circumscribed on ultrasound. On gross finding, it was a polypoid and bilobed mass, partially encapsulated. On histological examination, it was a proliferation of non-atypical spindle cells with an abundant, myxoid stroma and numerous medium-sized blood vessels. The diagnosis was superficial angiomyxoma. The clinical features do not often lead to the diagnosis of superficial vulvar angiomyxoma. It is based on histological examination and immunohistochemistry is helpful to differentiate it from other myxoid tumors.

Large Conventional Osteosarcoma of the proximal Humerus in a 13-Year-Old Child: Case Report

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor in children. It is highly aggressive and has a poor prognosis. A late presentation modifies and makes difficult the management affecting the survival of children. We report the case of a large conventional osteosarcoma in a 13-year-old girl. Case presentation: Adolescent girl admitted for painful swelling of the left shoulder with absolute functional impotence of the thoracic limb and severe anemia. The painful swelling was thought to have been caused by a minor trauma that had occurred six months previously. The patient’s general condition was poor, and she presented with a large, shiny, painful mass over the shoulder and upper 2/3 of the left arm, measuring 28 cm long by 28 cm wide and 57 cm in circumference, and a large fistulous axillary adenopathy. CT scan showed a tumour lesion of the left humerus with liver and lung metastases, raising suspicion of osteogenic osteosarcoma. The tumor was classified according to TNM staging: T2N1M1(a + b). Management was modified when uncontrolled bleeding developed. It consisted of an extended amputation of the left thoracic limb. Pathological analysis showed a high-grade conventional osteosarcoma. Quality improvement was obtained for thirty days, followed by the onset of dyspnea. The evolution was towards death at forty days post-operatively. Conclusion: Osteosarcoma is a highly aggressive cancer. Delayed treatment leads to a fatal outcome. Early diagnosis is one of the challenges to be met in order to improve survival.

Effects of prandtl and Jacob Numbers and Dimensionless Thermal Conductivity on Velocity profiles in Media (Porous and Liquid)

In this present study, we analyzed the effects of prandtl and Jacob numbers and dimensionless thermal conductivity on the velocity profiles in media (porous and liquid). The transfers in the porous medium and the liquid film are described respectively by the improved Wooding model and the classical boundary layer equations. The mesh of the digital domain is considered uniform in the transverse and longitudinal directions. The advection and diffusion terms are discretized with a back-centered and centered scheme respectively. The coupled systems of algebraic equations thus obtained are solved numerically using an iterative line-by-line relaxation method of the Gauss-Seidel type. The results show that the parameters relating to the thermal problem (the dimensionless thermal conductivity, the prandtl (pr) and Jacob (Ja) numbers) have no influence on the dimensionless speed, although the thermal and hydrodynamic problems are coupled. Via the heat balance equation. The results obtained show that the parameters relating to the thermal problem have no influence on the dimensionless speed, although the thermal and hydrodynamic problems are coupled via the heat balance equation. So, at first approximation with the chosen constants, we can solve the hydrodynamic problem independently of the thermal problem.

Urological Emergencies at the University Hospital of Brazzaville: Epidemiological, Clinical, and Therapeutic Aspects

Introduction: Urological emergencies play a significant role in the medical and surgical activity of a urology department. The objective of this study was to determine the hospital prevalence of urological emergencies at the University Hospital of Brazzaville (CHUB), identify the different pathologies requiring urgent care, and list the various therapeutic methods. Patients and methods: A retrospective study of patients admitted to the medical and surgical emergencies department of CHUB over a 5-year period. Patient records admitted and treated for a urological emergency were included. The variables studied were the frequency of urological emergencies, patient age at admission, gender, nature of the emergency, and various therapeutic options. Results: Urological emergencies accounted for 4.3% of all medical and surgical emergencies. The mean age was 57 ± 28 years with a range of 3 to 93 years. The male-to-female ratio was 7.1. The most common conditions were urinary retention (54.67%), hematuria (17.20%), and renal colic (8.13%). Therapeutically, surgical urinary drainage was dominated by cystostomy. Conclusion: Urological emergencies are infrequent at the University Hospital of Brazzaville. Their management is often delayed.

Estimating the Input Power of a Power Plant Using the Efficiency of the Inverter

The study focuses on estimating the input power of a power plant from available data, using the theoretical inverter efficiency as the key parameter. The paper addresses the problem of missing data in power generation systems and proposes an approach based on the efficiency formula widely documented in the literature. In the absence of input data, this method makes it possible to estimate the plant’s input power using data extracted from the site, in particular that provided by the Ministry of the Environment. The importance of this study lies in the need to accurately determine the input power in order to assess the overall performance of the energy system.

Introduction: pregnancy as much as childbirth constitutes a risky situation, potentially fraught with sometimes dramatic complications: maternal death. Objective: We conducted this study with the aim of establishing the profile of those giving birth in our context with the aim to anticipate operationally in the future on morbidity but more on maternal deaths. Methodology: We conducted, using a structured questionnaire, a prospective descriptive study in representative maternity wards in the city of Douala;the study variables were socio-economic, anthropometric, obstetrical and clinical. Statistical analyses were carried out with CS pro 7.3 and SPSS version 25.0 software. The Student, Chi-square and Fischer tests were used to compare the means of the variables and the percentages. Results: We recruited 305 births for our study. The average age of our births was 28.7 years ± 6.1 with an average height of 161.6 cm ± 5.06;an average body mass index at the start of pregnancy of 28.0 kilograms/square meter and 31.3 kilograms/square meter at delivery;the average weight gain was 8.4 g ± 5.37;an average gestation of 2.84±1.90;an average parity of 2.2 ± 2.1 with an average birth interval of 27.7 months ± 23.7. The average gestational age was 39.2 weeks ± 1.21 with pregnancy pathology dominated by malaria;85.9% began their prenatal follow-up before the 14th week of amenorrhea. Conclusion: The profile of childbirth in urban Cameroon does not seem potentially dystocic compared to that of the same regional and racial area.

Granitic inselbergs of Lara(Panafrican Chain,Far-North Cameroon):Assets for the implementation of geotourism in Mountainous region

The locality of Lara(Far-North Region,Cameroon)is made up of a pediplain strewn with coalescent *** interaction of internal and external geological processes has contributed to transform the latter into inselbergs,whose geotouristic values are yet to be *** and laboratory work enabled us to select the geomorphosites through their aesthetic value(particular size and shape)and,geomorphological and geological ***,it permitted to study and map the geomorphosites using Optic Microscope,Google Earth,GIS software and many other ***,four inselbergs have been selected and studied in the locality of *** petrographic study of these inselbergs shows that granites are the main components of inselbergs and they present a fine to coarse-grained texture,materialized by quartz,micas,plagioclases and alkali feldspars(white and pink in colour).Inselbergs exhibit vertical and parallel networks of diaclases giving them a stratified appearance in some *** addition,on some inselberg limbs and piedmonts,are built tors which contribute to their *** tops of inselbergs,are embellished by several alluring pedestal *** their flanks,shelters of various shapes and sizes(about 12 m length)have developed through the heaps of blocks *** the ten shelters selected,some have a fairly high cultural value as they are sacred places for the local ***,Lara's granitic inselbergs include enclaves(cognate enclaves and xenocrysts)that also significantly improve their geoheritage *** are landforms with high education and aesthetic value that attracted a larger local and foreign population of about 863 visitors between *** constitute an exceptional geoheritage that could attract more tourists in the locality of Lara;but the promotion of geotourism is needed through interpretative panels,marketing of geomorphosites through leaflets,web,media,and geotours,to mention a few.
