m.nganese is an essential m.cronutrient for all organism.;however at high concentrations it has a toxic effect. m.nganese toxicity is a serious constraint to crop cultivation since it is taken-up by plants and can easily be passed into the food chain again causing sym.tom. of Parkinson’s disease. A fully validated square-wave adsorptive cathodic stripping voltam.etry m.thod has been developed for determ.nation of m. (II) as a com.lex with 2-(5’-brom.-2’-pyridylazo) 5-diethylam.nophenol in aqueous solutions using a carbon paste electrode (CPE) m.dified with m.ntm.rillonite-Na clay. The results showed that the m.dified CPE (90% (w/w) graphite powder and 10% (w/w) m.ntm.rillonite-Na clay) exhibited excellent electrochem.cal activity towards the investigated m. (II) com.lex in acetate buffer of pH = 5.0. Factors affecting the perform.nce of the m.dified carbon paste electrode and the sensitivity of the described square- wave stripping voltam.etry m.thod, including the electrode com.osition, concentration of ligand, pulse param.ters and preconcentration conditions were exam.ned. A detection lim.t (S/N = 3) of 0.015μg·L-1 (2.73 × 10-10 m.l·L-1) m. (II) was achieved when a preconcentration tim. of 240 s was applied. Insignificant interferences from.various inorganic and organic species were estim.ted. The described square-wave adsorptive cathodic stripping voltam.etry m.thod coupled with the m.dified carbon paste electrode has been successfully applied to m. (II) analysis in different water sam.les.

Kinetics of hom.geneous degradation of Eosin Y (EY), also known as Acid red 87 (CI 45380), are studied, m.stly using Fenton’s process, at 30℃ by m.nitoring its absorbance at 517 nm.(λm.x of EY). This process is one of the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). m.xture of H2O2 and Fe(II) ion in acetate buffer m.dium.(pH 2.74 - 4.56) generates hydroxyl free radicals (?OH) which attack the dye m.lecules, resulting in degradation of the dye m.lecules. Results show that the initial rate of EY degradation decreases with the increasing of solution pH because of rem.val of kinetically im.ortant Fe (iron) species through form.tion of ferric hydroxide. On the other hand, the rate increases with increasing the concentrations of H2O2, Fe(II) and EY at low solution pH. The initial rate increases with increasing of concentration of H2O2 and, subsequently rem.ins unaffected with further increase of its concentration at a constant Fe(II) concentration because of the enhanced scavenging environm.nt created by H2O2 at its higher concentration. The initial rate also increases with increasing of concentration of Fe(II) at a constant H2O2 concentration and rem.ins unaffected with its further increase. EY concentration also enhances the initial rate at low pH. However, the initial rate is significantly enhanced by UV light. This is because of form.tion of additional hydroxyl radicals through excitation of the dye m.lecules by UV light. During the period of experim.nt, EY in aqueous solution alone hardly suffered any degradation. Degradation m.chanism.of EY by the Fenton and photo-Fenton’s processes is also discussed. Statistical analysis was used to validate the experim.ntal results. Low values of the standard deviation for both the initial rate and % degradation indicated the consistency of the experim.ntal data.

Nanocom.osite film. consisting of carboxym.thyl cellulose,polyethylene oxide(Cm./PEO),and anatase titanium.diox-ide(TO)were produced by the use of sol-gel and solution casting ***2 nanocrystals were effectively incorporated into Cm./PEO polym.rs,as shown by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and attenuated total reflectance fourier transform.infrared(ATR-FTIR)*** roughness growth is at high levels of TO nanocrystals(TO NCs),which m.ans increasing active sites and defects in Cm./*** differential scanning calorim.try(DSC)therm.gram.,the change in glass transition tem.erature(Tg)val-ues verifies that the polym.r blend interacts with TO *** increm.nt proportions of TO NCs have a notable im.act on the dielectric perform.nces of the nanocom.osites,as *** electrical properties of the Cm./PEO/TO nanocom.osite undergo significant *** nanocom.osite film. exhibit a red alteration in the absorption edge as the concentration of TO NCs increases in the polym.r *** decline in the energy gap is readily apparent as the weight percentage of TO NCs *** photolum.nescence(PL)em.ssion spectra indicate that the sites of the lum.nescence peak m.xim.m. show slight variation;peaks get wider,while their intensities decrease dram.tically as the concentration of TO *** nanocom.osite m.terials show potential for m.ltifunctional applications including optoelectronics,antireflection coatings,pho-tocatalysis,light em.tting diodes,and solid polym.r electrolytes.

For the first tim.,the m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4)(ratio 4:1)destabilized system.with CoTiO_(3) addition has been *** CoTiO_(3)-doped m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4) sam.le begins to dehydrogenate at 130℃,which is declined by 40℃ com.ared to the undoped m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4).m.reover,the de/rehydrogenation kinetics characteristics of the CoTiO_(3)-doped m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4) were greatly *** the inclusion of CoTiO_(3),the m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4) com.osite absorbed 5.2 wt.%H_(2),higher than undoped m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4).In the context of dehydrogenation,the CoTiO_(3)-doped m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4) sam.le desorbed 2.6 wt.%H_(2),alm.st doubled com.ared to the am.unt of hydrogen desorbed from.the undoped m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4) *** activation energy obtained by the Kissinger analysis for m.H_(2) decom.osition was significantly lower by 35.9 kJ/m.l than the undoped m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4) *** reaction m.chanism.dem.nstrated that new phases of m.Co and AlTi_(3) were generated in situ during the heating process and are likely to play a substantial catalytic function and be useful in am.liorating the de/rehydrogenation properties of the destabilized m.H_(2)–NaAlH_(4) system.with the inclusion of CoTiO_(3).

Catalytic effect of SrTiO_3 on the hydrogen storage behaviour of m.H_2

The effects of Sr TiO_3 on the hydrogen storage properties of m.H_2 have been studied for the first *** onset dehydrogenation tem.erature of the m.H_2-10 wt% SrTiO_3 is found to be 275 ℃, which is 55 ℃ lower as com.ared to the as-m.lled m.H_2. The com.osite is able to absorb 4.3 wt% of hydrogen in 60 m.n instead of 1.1 wt% for the as-m.lled m. H_2. m.anwhile, the com.osite is able to release 5.3 wt% of hydrogen in 17 m.n com.ared to 1.9 wt% by the as-m.lled m. H_2 at 320 ℃. The calculated Eaof the m. H_2-10 wt% SrTiO_3 is 109 k J/m.l, which is 26.3 kJ/m.l lower than the calculated Eaof the as-m.lled m.H_2. The Sr TiO_3 is not decom.osed during the ball m.lling and the re/dehydrogenation processes. The catalytic effect shown by the SrTiO_3 is owing to its ability to change the physical structure of the m.H_2 particles during the ball m.lling process.

Radioactivity Levels and Gam.a-Ray Dose Rate in Soil Sam.les from.Kohistan （Pakistan） Using Gam.a-Ray Spectrom.try

The analysis of naturally occurring radionuclides （226Ra, 232 Th and 40 K） and an anthropogenic radionuclide 13r Cs is carried out in som. soil sam.les collected from.Kohistan district of N.W.F.P. （Pakistan）, using gam.a-ray spectrom.try. The gam.a spectrom.try is operated using a high purity Germ.nium.（HPGe） detector coupled with a com.uter based high resolution m.lti channel analyzer. The specific activity in soil ranges from.24.72 to ***-1 for 22TRa, 21.73 to ***- 1 for 232Th, 7.06 to *** 1 for 1arcs and 298.46 to ***-1 for 40K with the m.an values of 42.11, 43.27, 9.5 and ***-1, respectively. The radium.equivalent activity in all the soil sam.les is lower than the safe lim.t set in the OECD report （370 ***-1）. m.n-m.de radionuclide 13r Cs is also present in detectable am.unt in all sell sam.les. Presence of 13r Us indicates that the sam.les in this renlote area also recelvo som. fallout from.nuclear accident in Chernobyl power plant in 1986. The internal and external hazard indices have the m.an values of 0.48 and 0.37 respectively. Absorbed dose rates and effective dose equivalents are also determ.ned for the sam.les. The concentration of radionuclides found in the soil sam.les during the present study is nom.nal and does not pose any potential health hazard to the general public.
