This project studies marine terraces in western Messenia, southwestern Peloponnese, Greece, to propose a model of neotectonic configuration and paleogeographic evolution of western Messenia during the Quaternary. GIS analysis of topographic data and geological mapping revealed flanks of raised terraces created on Quaternary marine deposits. Luminescence ages of sediments from the three westernmost marine terraces tend to be consistent OIS-5, OIS-7 and OIS-9, respectively, thus agreeing with the three latest warm stages of the Pleistocene. Moreover, the type and the extent of deformation of the dated marine terraces allowed us to reflect on the neotectonic configuration of western Messenia as well as to conclude that progressive differential uplift over the last 300 ka has induced a dome-like structure to the upper crust of western Messenia.

The efficiency of activated biochar fibres obtained from Opuntia Ficus lndica regarding me sorpuon oi trlvalent samarium （Sm（Ⅲ）） from aqueous solutions was investigated by batch experiments. The effect of various physicochemical parameters （e.g. pH, initial metal concentration, ionic strength, temperature and contact time） on the Sm（III） adsorption was studied and the surface species were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy prior to and after the lanthanide sorption. The experimental results showed that the acti- vated biochar fibres possessed extraordinary sorption capacity for Sm（Ⅲ） in acidic solutions （qmax=90 g/kg, pH 3.0） and near neutral solutions （qmax=350 g/kg, pH 6.5）, This was attributed to the formation of samarium complexes with the surface carboxylic moieties, available in high density on the lamellar structures of the bio-sorbent.

The stochastic response of a multi‐degree‐of‐freedom nonlinear dynamical system is determined based on the recently developed Wiener path integral(WPI)*** system can be construed as a representative model of electrostatically coupled arrays of micromechanical oscillators,and relates to an experiment performed by Buks and *** to alternative modeling and solution treatments in the literature,the paper exhibits the following ***,typically adopted linear,or higher‐order polynomial,approximations of the nonlinear electrostatic forces are ***,for the first time,stochastic modeling is employed by considering a random excitation component representing the effect of diverse noise sources on the system ***,the resulting high‐dimensional,nonlinear system of coupled stochastic differential equations governing the dynamics of the micromechanical array is solved based on the WPI technique for determining the response joint probability density *** with pertinent Monte Carlo simulation data demonstrate a quite high degree of accuracy and computational efficiency exhibited by the WPI ***,it is shown that the proposed model can capture,at least in a qualitative manner,the salient aspects of the frequency domain response of the associated experimental setup.

The field of tumor immunology has produced in the recent years a revolution in cancer therapeutics putting an end in the long lasting frustration of investigators in the area stemming from largely unsuccessful strides to develop cancer vaccines. This progress has come from the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies blocking ligand/receptor pairs with inhibitory effects for immune cells. Through this blockade immune checkpoint blockers are able to ac-tivate the immune system and create an anti-tumoral effect. A significant sub-set of patients with various types of cancers such as melanoma, lung carcinomas and urothelial cancers benefit from treatment with these drugs and survivals have improved in some ca-ses. However other cancers are primarily resistant to immune blockers and secondary resistance is also the norm. Radiation therapy is often used in the palliative treatment of patients with advanced cancers and, in addition to the local effect in the irradiated field, it may in rare cases produce a systemic antitumor effect, termed "abscopal". This effect has been suggested to be produced by immune mechanisms. Thus an opportunity presents for a synergistic effect of immune stimulation between radiation and immune blockade inhibitors. The therapeutic opportunities presented with the combination of radiation and these drugs for gastrointestinal cancers will be discussed in this editorial overview.

Heavily calcified coronary lesions continue to represent a challenge for percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI),as they are difficult to dilate,and it is difficult to deliver and implant drug-eluting stents(DES)*** stent deployment is associated with high rates of periprocedural complications and suboptimal long-term clinical outcomes.[1]Thanks to the introduction of several adjunctive PCI tools,like cutting and scoring balloons,and to the novel intravascular lithotripsy technology,the treatment of such lesions has become increasingly feasible,predictable and safe.

We herein present a simple,fast,low-temperature,post-glass melting fabrication protocol in which a photochromic silver cation based modified zone is incorporated within silver metaphosphate glass(AgPO_(3)).The selection of AgPO_(3)glass is mainly based on its relative“soft”nature(T_(g)=192℃)that enables the integration of silver cations from the surface deposited AgCl layer,while being transparent in most of the visible range,and therefore suitable for smart photochromic window *** suggested synthesis procedure permits the controlled formation of a silver cation modified layer within the host glass matrix,while the characteristics of the layer itself can be adjusted *** findings reveal a direct relationship between the developed composite AgCleAgPO_(3)glass photochromic response and the morphological features of the integrated layer,i.e.,thickness and *** importantly,the photochromic response time with various UV irradiation doses is also studied,where remarkable response times of several seconds are *** and efforts to further enhance the photochromic performance by utilizing the presence of silver nanoparticles within the glass matrix are also presented and discussed.

Ischemic colitis is the most common form of ischemic injury of the gastrointestinal tract and can present either as an occlusive or a non-occlusive form. It accounts for 1 in 1000 hospitalizations but its incidence is underesti- mated because it often has a mild and transient nature. The etiology of ischemic colitis is multifactorial and the clinical presentation variable. The diagnosis is based on a combination of clinical suspicion, radiographic, endo- scopic and histological findings. Therapy and outcome depends on the severity of the disease. Most cases of the non-gangrenous form are transient and resolve spontaneously without complications. On the other hand, high morbidity and mortality and urgent operative intervention are the hallmarks of gangrenous ischemic colitis.

Gemcitabine is one of the most used anti-neoplastic drugs with documented activity in almost all major localizations of *** pancreatic cancer treatment,gemcitabine occupies a prominent place as a first line chemotherapy,partly because of the paucity of other efficacious chemotherapy *** fact,only a minority of pancreatic cancer patients display a response or even stability of disease with the *** are currently no clinically applicable means of predicting which patient will derive a clinical benefit from gemcitabine although several proposed markers have been studied. These markers are proteins involved in drug up-take,activation and catabolism or proteins that define the ability of the cell to undergo apoptosis in response to the *** of these markers are reviewed in this *** also briefly discuss the possible role of stem cells in drug resistance to gemcitabine.

Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-γ (PPARγ), a transcription factor of the nuclear receptor superfamily plays a significant role in colorectal cancer pathogenesis. In most experimental systems PPARγ activation has tumor suppressing effects in the colon. PPARγ is regulated at multiple levels by the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS). At a first level, UPS regulates PPARγ transcription. This regulation involves both PPARγ transcription specific factors and the general transcription machinery. At a second level UPS regulates PPARγ and its co-factors themselves, as PPARγ and many co-factors are proteasome substrates. At a third level of regulation, transduction pathways working in parallel but also having interrelations with PPARγ are regulated by the UPS, creating a network of regulation in the colorectal carcinogenesisrelated pathways that are under UPS control. Activation of PPARγ transcription by direct pharmacologic activators and by stabilization of its molecule by proteasome inhibitors could be strategies to be exploited in colorectal cancer treatment.
