The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a "whole genome shotgun" approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in china and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. The coverage of the draft sequence, the randomness of the sequence distribution, and the consistency of BIG-ASSEM-BLER, a custom-designed software package

Stability of proton and maximally symmetric minimal unification model for basic forces and building blocks of matter

With the hypothesis that all independent degrees of freedom of basic building blocks should be treated equally on the same footing and correlated by a possible maximal symmetry, we arrive at a 4-dimensional space-time unification model. In this model the basic building blocks are Majorana fermions in the spinor repre- sentation of 14-dimensional quantum space-time with a gauge symmetry GM4D = SO(1,3)×SU(32)×U(1)A×SU(3)F. The model leads to new physics including mirror particles of the standard model. It enables us to issue some fundamental questions that include: why our living space-time is 4-dimensional, why parity is not con- served in our world, how the stability of proton is, what the origin of CP violation is and what the dark matter can be.

Special relativity and theory of gravity via maximum symmetry and localization

Like Euclid, Riemann and Lobachevski geometries are on an almost equal footing, based on the principle of relativity of maximum symmetry proposed by Professor Lu qikeng and the postulate on invariant universal constants c and R, the de Sitter/anti-de Sitter (dS/AdS) special relativity on dS/AdS-space with radius R can be set up on an almost equal footing with Einstein’s special relativity on the Minkowski-space in the case of R→∞.Thus the dS-space is coin-like: a law of inertia in Beltrami atlas with Beltrami time simultaneity for the principle of relativity on one side, and the proper-time simultaneity and a Robertson-Walker-like dS-space with entropy and an accelerated expanding S 3 fitting the cosmological principle on another side.If our universe is asymptotic to the Robertson-Walker-like dS-space of R ? (3/Λ)1/2, it should be slightly closed in O(Λ) with entropy bound S ? 3πc 3 k B /ΛG?. Contrarily, via its asymptotic behavior, it can fix on Beltrami inertial frames without ‘an argument in a circle’ and acts as the origin of inertia.There is a triality of conformal extensions of three kinds of special relativity and their null physics on the projective boundary of a 5-d AdS-space, a null cone modulo projective equivalence [ $ \mathcal{N} $ ] ? ? P (AdS 5). Thus there should be a dS-space on the boundary of S 5 × AdS 5 as a vacuum of supergravity.In the light of Einstein’s ‘Galilean regions’, gravity should be based on the localized principle of relativity of full maximum symmetry with a gauge-like dynamics. Thus, this may lead to the theory of gravity of corresponding local symmetry. A simple model of dS-gravity characterized by a dimensionless constant g ?(ΛG?/3c 3)1/2 ～ 10?61 shows the features on umbilical manifolds of local dS-invariance. Some gravitational effects out of general relativity may play a role as dark matter.The dark universe and its asymptotic behavior may already indicate that the dS special relativity and dS-gravity be the foundati

We examine various direct and indirect constraints on the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and discuss its phenomenology at colliders in the allowed parameter *** constraints we consider come from the precision electroweak data,the direct search for Higgs boson,the muon anomalous magnetic moment,as well as some theoretical consistency *** find that in the allowed parameter space the CP-odd Higgs boson A is rather light (m A 10-8 to 10-and 10-5 to 10-4 respectively,which may be accessible at the GigaZ option of the ILC.

The lepton flavor violating signal of the extra gauge boson Z′in photon-photon collision at the ILC

The hitherto unconstrained lepton flavor mixings,induced by the new gauge boson Z ,which are the prediction of many new physics models,such as topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) models and flavor-universal TC2 models,may lead to the lepton flavor violating productions of τμˉ,τeˉ and μeˉ in photon-photon collision at the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC).Through a comparative analysis of these processes,we find that the better channel to probe the new physics models is the production of τμˉ or τeˉ which occurs at a much higher rate than μeˉ production due to the large mixing angle and the large flavor changing coupling,and may reach the detectable level of the ILC for a large part of the parameter *** the rates predicted by the Standard Model are far below the detectable level,these processes may serve as a sensitive probe for such new physics models.

Strong decays of N~*(1535) in an extended chiral quark model

The strong decays of the N*(1535) resonance are investigated in an extended chiral quark model by including the low-lying $ qqqq\bar q $ components in addition to the qqq component. The results show that these five-quark components in N*(1535) contribute significantly to the N*(1535) → Nπ and N*(1535) → Nη decays. The contributions to the Nη decay come from both the lowest energy and the next-tolowest energy five-quarks components, while the contributions to the Nπ decay come from only the latter one. Taking these contributions into account, the description for the strong decays of N*(1535) is improved, especially for the puzzling large ratio of the decays to Nη and Nπ.

Challenges in the theoretical investigations of lipid membrane configurations

We report some key results in the theoretical investigations of configurations of lipid membranes and present several challenges in this field,which involve（i）the exact solutions to the shape equation of lipid vesicles,（ii）the exact solutions to the governing equations of open lipid membranes,（iii）the neck condition of two-phase vesicles in the budding state,（iv） the nonlocal theory of membrane elasticity,and（v）the relationship between the symmetry and the magnitude of the free energy.

This paper briefly reviews the lepton flavor violating Z-decays at GigaZ as a probe of supersymmetry by focusing on Z → i j in two representative supersymmetric models: the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity and the supersymmetric seesaw *** work concludes that under the current experimental constraints from LEP and i → j γ,these rare decays can still be enhanced to reach the sensitivity of the ***,supersymmetry can be probed via these decays at GigaZ.
