Stearic acid protects primary cultured cortical neurons against oxidative stress

Aim:To observe the effects of stearic acid against oxidative stress in primarycultured cortical ***:Cortical neurons were exposed to glutamate,hydrogen peroxide（H2O2）,or NaN3insult in the presence or absence of *** viability of cortical neurons was determined by MTT assay and *** antioxidant enzymes activity[superoxide dismutases（SOD）,glutathione peroxidase（GSH-Px）,and catalase（CAT）] and lipid peroxidation incultured cortical neurons were evaluated using commercial kits.{3-[l（p-chloro-benzyl）-5-（isopropyl）-3-t-butylthiondol-2-yl]-2,2-dimethylpropanoic acid,Na}[MK886;5 μmol/L;a noncompetitive inhibitor of proliferator-activated receptor（PPAR）α],bisphenol A diglycidyl ether（BADGE;100 μmol/L;an antagonist ofPPARγ）,and cycloheximide（CHX;30 μmol/L,an inhibitor of protein synthesis）were tested for their effects on the neuroprotection afforded by stearic *** blotting was used to determine the PPARγprotein level in cortical ***:Stearic acid dose-dependently protected cortical neurons againstglutamate or H202 injury and increased glutamate uptake in cultured *** protection was concomitant to the inhibition of lipid peroxidation and to thepromotion activity of Cu/Zn SOD and CAT in cultured cortical *** effects were completely blocked by BADGE and *** with H202 for 24 h,the expression of the PPARγprotein decreasedsignificantly（P<0.05）,and the inhibitory effect of H2O2on the expression of PPARγcan be attenuated by stearic ***:Stearic acid can protect corticalneurons against oxidative stress by boosting the internal antioxidant *** neuroprotective effect may be mainly mediated by the activation of PPARγandnew protein synthesis in cortical neurons.

ON THE Least EIGENVALUE OF A GRAPH

Let G be a simple graph with n vertices and λn（G） be the least eigenvalue of *** this paper, we show that, if G is connected but not complete, then λn（G）≤λn(Kn-11)and the equality holds if and only if G Kn-11, where Kn-11, is the graph obtained by thecoalescence of a complete graph Kn-1 of n-1 vertices with a path P2 of length one of itsvertices.

Bifurcations of Rough Heteroclinic Loops with Three Saddle Points

In this paper, we study the bifurcation problems of rough heteroclinic loups cormecting threc saddle points for a higher-dimensional system. Under some transversal conditions and the nontwisted condition. the existence. uniqueness. nd incoexistencc of thc l-heteroclinic loop with threc or two saddle pomts. l-homoclinic orbit and l-periodic orbit near T are obtained. Nleanwhile, the bifurcation surfaces and existence regions are also given. Moreover. the above bifurcation results are extended to the case for heteroclinic loop with l saddle points.

Global Existence of Positive Periodic Solutions for a Distributed Delay Competition Model

By using the continuation theorem of Mawhin’s coincidence degree theory, a sufficient condition is derived for the existence of positive periodic solutions for a distributed delay competition model , where r 1 and r 2 are continuous ω-periodic functions in R + = [0,∞) with are positive continuous ω-periodic functions in R + = [0,∞), b i (i = 1, 2) is nonnegative continuous ω-periodic function in R + = [0,∞), ω and T are positive constants, and . Some known results are improved and extended.

Heart valve diseases threaten human health. One reliable way to save lives of such patients is to replace the pathologically changed heart valves by artificial ones. Over 2 million patients have received LTI-carbon heart valve’s implantation. However, the thrombosis after the implantation is one of the difficulties that need to be solved. In order to improve the blood compatibility and security of mechanical heart valves, ion beam technology was used to modify the surface properties of the materials. The investigation results have been summarized in this paper.

For costly and/or destructive tests,the sequential method with a proper maximum sample size is *** on Koopman-Darmois distributions,this paper proposes the method of sequential mesh,which has an acceptable maximum sample *** comparison with the popular truncated sequential probability ratio test,our method has the advantage of a smaller maximum sample size and is especially applicable for costly and/or destructive tests.

Clean synthesis of biodiesel over solid acid catalysts of sulfonated mesopolymers

FDU-15-SO3H,a solid acid material prepared from the sulfonation of FDU-15 mesoporous polymer,has been demonstrated to serve as an efficient catalyst in the esterification of palmitic acid with methanol as well as in the transesterification of fatty acid-edible oil ***-15-SO3H achieved an acid conversion of 99.0% when the esterification was carried out at 343 K with a methanol/palmitic acid molar ratio of 6:1 and 5 wt% catalyst *** was capable of giving 99.0% yield of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) when the transesterification of soybean oil was performed at 413 K and the methanol/oil weight ratio of 1:***-15-SO3H was further applied to the transesterification/esterification of the oil mixtures with a varying ratio of soybean oil to palmitic acid,which simulated the feedstock with a high content of free fatty *** yield of FAME reached 95% for the oil mixtures containing 30 wt% palmitic *** indicated the sulfonated mesopolymer was a potential catalyst for clean synthesis of fuel alternative of biodiesel from the waste oil without further purification.

EXACT EXPLICIT SOLUTIONS OF THE NONLINEAR SCHRDINGER EQUATION COUPLED TO THE BOUSSINESQ EQUATION

A system comprised of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation coupled to the Boussinesq equation (S-B equations) which dealing with the stationary propagation of coupled non-linear upper-hybrid and magnetosonic waves in magnetized plasma is proposed. To examine its solitary wave solutions, a reduced set of ordinary differential equations are considered by a simple traveling wave transformation. It is then shown that several new solutions (either functional or parametrical) can be obtained systematically, in addition to rederiving all known ones by means of our simple and direct algebra method with the help of the computer algebra system Maple.

THE MINIMAL CLOSED NON-TRIVIAL IDEALS OF TOEPLITZ ALGEBRAS ON DISCRETE GROUPS

Let G be a discrete group and (G, G+) an ordered group. Let (G, GF) be the minimal quasiordered group containing (G, G+). Let G+ (G) and (G) be the corresponding Toeplitz algebras, and γGF,G+ the natural C*-algebra morphism from G+ (G) to GF(G). This paper studies the connection between Ker GF,G+ and the minimal closed ideal ofTG+ (G). It is proved that if G is amenable and GF≠G+, then Ker γGF,G+ is exactly the minimal closed non-trivial ideal of G+ (G). As an application, in the last part of this paper, a character of K-groups of Toeplitz algebras on ordered groups is clarified.
