Tan *** differences and similarities between Indian and East Asian Monsoon regions of china over the last millennium: a perspective based mainly on stalagmite *** Journal of Speleology,36(2),75-81 Bologna(Italy).ISSN 0392- 6672 Cave sediments,especially stalagmites,have been providing absolute dated climate records that can extend from the present to over 500,000 years *** on the reconstructed temperature time series,a comprehensive overview of the climatic differences and similarities between the Indian and the East Asian Monsoon regions of china over the last millennium is *** from accurately dated and high-resolution records including stalagmites,ice cores and tree rings show that there was a"Medieval Warm Period"(around 1000 to 1400 AD) in north and east china where climate is dominated by the East Asian monsoon;whilst no such interval is evident in the records including stalagmites and ice cores from southwest china where climate is dominated by the Indian ***,both regions underwent a significant cooling during the Little Ice Age(around the mid 1500s to the 1800s). The result achieved here may allow a possibility of distinguishing the boundary between Indian monsoon and East Asian monsoon regions over the last millennium with increase of climate records,especially stalagmites that are mostly suitable for accurate U/Th dating and/or lamina counting.

The temperature which affects plant growth and development, is an important ecological factor. In the present study, we mainly aimed to study the effects of temperature on gas exchange characteristics in the leaves of Lonicera Japonica Thunb., The results showed that light elevated temperature had no significant effects on the photosynthesis of L. japonica （Lonicera Japonica）, which was well indicated by the responses of net photosynthesis rate （P N ）, stomatal conductance （G s ）, intercellular CO 2 concentration （C i ） and transpiration rate （E）. Intercellular CO 2 concentration and transpiration rate had a good relationship with stomatal conductance. The study will provide a reference for L. japonica to response temperature warming and be useful for environmental protection.

Eight beams of 0.35 μm laser with pulse duration of 1 ns and total energy of 2 kJ enter into a hohlraum to create intense X-ray radiation of 140 eV on the Shenguang ΙΙ laser facility. Plastic foam (C6H12) and copper-doped foam (C6H12Cu0.394) with a density of 50 mg/cm3 are heated by X-ray radiation emitted from the hohlraum. The breakout time of the radiation wave is measured by a tri-chromatic streaked X-ray spectrometer (TCS) that consists of a set of three imaging pinholes and an array of three transmission gratings coupled with an X-ray streak camera (XSC). At one shot, the simultaneous measurements of the delay of the drive source and the radiation transport at two energies (210 eV, 840 eV) through the foam have been made for the first time. The experimental results indicate that the time delays vary with photon energies. With a transmission grating spectrometer (TGS), the spectra transmitting foams were measured, and the lower limit of the optical depth was measured. The radiation at energy of 210 eV propagates through plastic foam at a faster velocity, compared with the radiation at energy of 840 eV; while the results of copper-doped foam are reverse. The optical depth in the plastic foam is less than 1, and in the doped foam it is more than 1.

The effect of anisotropy caused by a confining potential on the properties of fermionic cold atoms in a triangular optical lattice is systematically investigated by using the dynamical cluster approximation combined with the continuous time quantum Monte-Carlo algorithm. The quantum phase diagrams which reflect the temperature-interaction relation and the competition between the anisotropic parameter and the interaction are presented with full consideration of the anisotropy of the system. Our results show that the system undergoes a transition from Fermi liquid to Mott insulator when the repulsive interaction reaches a critical value. The Kondo effect also can be observed in this system and the pseudogap is suppressed at low temperatures due to the Kondo effect. A feasible experiment protocol to observe these phenomena in an anisotropic triangular optical lattice with cold atoms is proposed, in which the hopping terms are closely related to the lattice confining potential and the atomic interaction can be adjusted via the Feshbach resonance.

The aircraft industry is crucial to the economy and security of a nation. In this paper,the spatial characteristics and patterns of the aircraft industry are analyzed on different spatial scales. It is found that there is a ’Matthew effect’ in the global aircraft industry and the spatial evolution of the industry is consistent with the industrialization process of the whole country. It is also revealed that the spatial evolution of the country is driven by both the centripetal forces including capital,talents,technology and agglomeration economies and the centrifugal forces including the comparative advantage,cost & risk sharing,emerging markets,development policy for less-developed regions and the military imperative. These forces have both market-stabilizing and market-disrupting effects on the spatial evolution of the aircraft industry. The study suggests that lessons drawn from the experiences in the United States and France are expected to be conducive to the rise of china’s aircraft industry in the future.

Using representative sampling survey data,we take the case of roads,domestic water,irrigation facilities,clinics and schools,to give an overview of the status quo of rural public investment in Sichuan's hilly and mountainous areas in the period 2005 -2008; conduct comprehensive analysis of public investment benefit,from the status quo of supply and demand,social benefit and villagers' satisfaction. The results show that the social benefit arising from the construction of road projects is good,while the social benefit arising from the construction of irrigation facilities is poor; the matching effect of supply and demand of public investment is poor,especially for the investment in irrigation facilities; on the whole,villagers' satisfaction with public investment has been promoted,but most of the villagers are still unsatisfied with the current irrigation facilities. The major capital source of rural public investment is from the government,but from the perspective of the villagers' demand,we should further increase the public financial input.

Using the collected 433 heat flow values, we estimated the bases of methane hydrate stability zone （BHSZ）, in northern South china Sea （NSCS）. Through comparing BHSZs with the depths of bottom simulating reflectors （BSRs）, in Shenhu Area （SA）, we found that there are big differences between them. In the north of SA, where the water depth is shallow, many slumps developed and the sedimentation rate is high, it appears great negative difference （as large as -192%）. However, to the southeast of SA, where the water depth is deeper, sedimentation rate is relatively low and uplift basement topography exists, it changes to positive difference （as large as ＋45%）. The differences change so great, which haven＇t been observed in other places of the world. After considering the errors from the process of heat flow measurement, the BSR depth, the relationship of thermal conductivity with the sediments depth, and the fluid flow activities, we conclude that the difference should be not caused by these errors. Such big disagreement may be due to the misunderstanding of BSR. The deviant ＂BSRs＂ could represent the paleo-BSRs or just gas-bearing sediment layers, such as unconformities or the specific strata where have different permeability, which are not hydraterelated BSRs.

We used cDNA microarrays containing ~9,000 unigenes to identify 486 salt responsive expressed sequence tags (ESTs) (representing ~450 unigenes) in shoots of the highly salt-tolerant rice variety, Nona Bokra (Oryza sativa L. ssp. Indica pv. Nona). Some of the genes identified in this study had previously been associated with salt stress. However the majority were novel, indicating that there is a great number of genes that are induced by salt exposure. Analysis of the salt stress expression profile data of Nona provided clues regarding some putative cellular and molecular processes that are undertaken by this tolerant rice variety in response to salt stress. Namely, we found that multiple transcription factors were induced during the initial salt response of shoots. Many genes whose encoded proteins are implicated in detoxification, protectant and transport were rapidly induced. Genes supporting photosynthesis were repressed and those supporting carbohydrate metabolism were altered. Commonality among the genes induced by salt exposure with those induced during senescence and biotic stress responses suggests that there are shared signaling pathways among these processes. We further compared the transcriptome changes of the salt-sensitive cultivar, IR28, with that of Nona rice. Many genes that are salt responsive in Nona were found to be differentially regulated in IR28. This study identified a large number of candidate functional genes that appear to be involved in salt tolerance and further examination of these genes may enable the molecular basis of salt tolerance to be elucidated.
