At the m.m.nt, there is a growing concern about the negative effects on hum.n health and the environm.nt due to the widespread and indiscrim.nate use of conventional insecticides. Since plants have been used throughout history to control m.croorganism. and insects, the safety is an aspect that m.st also be evaluated to guarantee that its use does not affect hum.n health and the environm.nt. The aim.of the present study was to evaluate the safety of the dichlorom.thane extract of Hysterionica pinifolia, species with insecticidal activity, to be em.loyed as a raw m.terial for the developm.nt of biopesticides. The acute and subacute toxicity and the derm.l and ocular irritation were evaluated. In these studies, the dichlorom.thane extract of H. pinifolia showed no ocular and a slight derm.l irritation. Oral acute toxicity was greater than 2000 m./Kg and less than 5000 m./Kg (slightly hazardous) and no signs of toxicity were observed at repeated doses of 100 m./kg body weight. These prom.sing results showed that Hysterionica pinifolia could be considered as a potential raw m.terial for the developm.nt of an insecticide from.natural sources, safe for hum.n health and the environm.nt.

Phytochem.cal investigation of the purified fractions of the active dichlorom.thane extract of Hysterionica pinifolia (Poir.) Baker led to the identification of five com.ounds. New acetylenic alcohol (E)-undec-3-en-5,7-diyne-1-ol (1) and three other com.ounds (3), (4), and (5) were reported for the first tim. in this species. Furtherm.re, forty-six com.onents from.the volatile fraction of H. pinifolia were identified. These com.ounds were elucidated using 1D and 2D Nm. spectroscopy as well as m.-ESI and GC-FID-m. experim.nts. The dichlorom.thane extract, its fractions, and the m.thanolic extract were tested for insecticidal activity against Tribolium.castaneum.under laboratory conditions. The dichlorom.thane extract and the fraction F2 were found to be active, showing high larval m.rtality. The dichlorom.thane extract was also active against T. castaneum.adults. The results have shown that H. pinifolia could be considered, in a near future, as a potential source for the developm.nt of a botanical insecticide for pest control.

Swim.ladder disturbance sounds of doradoid catfishes （Doradidae and Aucheniptefidae） dem.nstrated striking waveform.and spectrographic variation. We surveyed sounds of 25 doradoid species in 20 genera com.aring these to sounds of four vocal outgroup catfish fam.lies. Sounds were either continuous waveform. （lacking interpulses） or pulsed （groups of pulses repeated at fixed tem.oral intervals）. This is the first evidence for swim.ladder calls with fixed interpulse patterns in catfishes. Vocal m.chanism.com.onents that were sim.lar between doradids and auchenipterids included： swim.ladder shape, swim.ladder dim.nsions and sonic m.scle-som.tic index. m.rphological traits that showed variation am.ng taxa and were evaluated for po- tential correlates of call diversity are： 1） diverticula （m.rginal outpocketings of the swim.ladder with no connection to inner ear） and 2） elastic spring apparatus m.illerian ram. （ESA-m.）. Within the doradid subfam.lies and within the Auchenipteridae m.st species differed significantly in dom.nant frequency with frequency ranges overlapping to som. extent for m.st. Doradid swim. bladder diverticula did not explain dom.nant frequency variation within the doradoid superfam.ly. Som. doradids with conical ESA-m. had the highest dom.nant frequency sounds. Auchenipterids included both relatively lower and higher dom.nant fre- quency sound producers but lacked diverticula and had discoidal ESA-m.. Com.aring a phylogeny of doradoid genera with out- group taxa, we infer that com.lex diverticula and conical ESA-m. are derived characters within the Doradidae. Species repre- senting outgroup fam.lies produced either continuous lower dom.nant frequency sounds （aspredinids, m.chokids and pseudopim.lodids） or pulsed higher dom.nant frequency sounds （pim.lodids） [Current Zoology 58 （1）： 171-188, 2012].

Background: Elevated anxiety levels are com.on in patients on m.chanical ventilation (m.) and m.y challenge recovery. Research suggests m.sic-based interventions m.y reduce anxiety during m.. However, studies investigating specific m.sic therapy techniques, addressing psychological and physiological well-being in patients on m., are scarce. m.thods: This three-arm.random.zed clinical pilot study was conducted with m. patients adm.tted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Hospital San José in Bogotá, Colom.ia between m.rch 7, 2022, and July 11, 2022. Patients were divided into three groups: intervention group 1 (IG1), m.sic-assisted relaxation; intervention group 2 (IG2), patient-preferred therapeutic m.sic listening; and control group (CG), standard care. The m.in outcom. m.asure was the 6-item.State-Anxiety Inventory. Secondary outcom.s were: pain, m.asured with a visual analog scale; resilience, m.asured with the Brief Resilience Scale; agitation/sedation, m.asured with the Richm.nd Agitation–Sedation Scale; vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate; days of m.; extubation success; and days in the ICU. Additionally, three patients underwent electroencephalography during the interventions. Results: Data from.23 patients were analyzed in this study. The age range of the patients was 24–84 years, with a m.dian age of 66 years (interquartile range: 57–74). Of the 23 patients, 19 were fem.le (82.6%). No statistically significant differences between the groups were observed for anxiety (P=0.330), pain (P=0.624), resilience (P=0.916), agitation/sedation (P=0.273), length of ICU stay (P=0.785), or vital signs. A statistically significant difference between the groups was found for days of m. (P=0.019). Electroencephalography m.asurem.nts showed a trend toward delta and theta band power decrease for two patients and a power increase on both beta frequencies (slow and fast) in the frontal areas of the brain for one patient. Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium.rank am.ng the leading causes of nosocom.al bacterem.a and urinary tract infections. They often persist on hospital surfaces due to their ability to withstand adverse environm.ntal conditions (low or high tem.eratures, high pH, and high salinity). The global Enterococcus faecalis-Enterococcus faecium.ratio is currently shifting towards Enterococcus faecium. Enterococci present variable levels of resistance to certain fam.lies of antibiotics. This is the case for am.noglycosides, beta-lactam. and cephalosporins. In 2017, WHO ranked Enterococci am.ng priority pathogens for research and developm.nt of new antibiotics. The objective of our study was to determ.ne the antibiotic resistance profile of Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium.isolates from.urine and pleural fluid in two hospitals in Cam.roon. This cross-sectional and analytic study was carried out between June to August 2023 on hospitalized and day patients in which a cytobacteriological test of urine and pleural fluid was done. The sam.les were inoculated on CLED Agar for urine and on Chocolate + polyvitex and blood agar (prepared from.Colum.ia agar) for pleural fluid sam.les and incubated at 37℃ for 18 to 24 hours. Identification of isolates was carried out using the API 20 STREP m.cro gallery (Biom.rieux, France) and tested for antim.crobial susceptibility. The data on socio-dem.graphical and potential risk factors were recorded using self-adm.nistered questionnaires and data from.laboratory analyses of the specim.n were collected in a data capture sheet. Potential risk factors associated with the presence of Enterococci, were evaluated using the logistic regression in univariate and m.ltivariate analysis. P value m.nantly fem.les. Stridulatory sound-producing behavior is widespread across catfish fam.lies, but som. are silent. To understand why, we com.ared spine m.rphology and ecotype of silent and vocal clades. We determ.ned vocal ability of laboratory specim.ns during disturbance behavior. Vocal fam.lies had bony （not flexible or segm.nted） spines, well-developed anterior and/or posterior serrations, and statistically significantly longer spines. We com.ared m.rphology of the proxim.l end of the pectoral spine between vocal and silent species. For vocal taxa, m.croscopic rounded or bladed ridges or knobs were present on the dorsal process. m.st silent species had reduced processes with exclusively sm.oth, convoluted, or honeycom.ed surfaces very sim.lar to spine-locking surfaces, or they had novel surfaces （beaded, vacuolated, cobwebbed）. m.st callichthyids had ridges but m.ny were silent during disturbance. All doradid, m.st auchenipterid and m.st m.chokid species were vocal and had ridges or knobs. Within the Auchenipteridae, vocal species had spines with greater weight and serration developm.nt but not length. Silent auchenipterids had thin, brittle, distally segm.nted spines with few m.croscopic serrations on only one m.rgin and a highly reduced dorsal process lacking any known vocal m.rphology. Silent auchenipterids are derived and pelagic, while all vocal genera are basal and benthopelagic. This is the first phylogenetic evidence for stridulation m.chanism.loss within catfishes. Phylogenetic m.pping of vocal ability, spine condition, and ecotype revealed the repeated presence of silence and vocal taxa, short and long spines, and ecotype shifts within clades. The appearance and loss of vocal behavior and supporting m.rphologies m.y have facilitated diversification am.ng catfishes [Current Zoology 56 （1）： 73 89 2010].

We present new U–Pb zircon and m.nazite ages from.the Sunsas belt granitic m.gm.tism.in Bolivia, SW Am.zonian Craton. The geochronological results revealed four m.jor m.gm.tic events recorded along the Sunsas belt dom.ins. The older igneous event form.d a granitic basem.nt coeval to the Rio Apa Terrane(1.95–1.85 Ga) in the southern dom.in. The second m.gm.tic episode is represented by 1.68 Ga granites associated to the Paraguá Terrane(1.69–1.66 Ga) in the northern dom.in. The 1.37–1.34 Ga granites related to San Ignacio orogeny represent the third and m.re pervasive m.gm.tic event, recorded throughout the Sunsas belt. m.reover, m.gm.tic ages of ~1.42 Ga revealed that the granitogenesis associated to the Santa Helena orogeny also affected the Sunsas belt, indicating that it was not restricted to the Jauru Terrane. Lastly, the 1.10–1.04 Ga youngest m.gm.tism.was developed during the Sunsas orogeny and represents the final m.gm.tic evolution related to Rodinia assem.ly. Likewise, the 1.95–1.85 and 1.68 Ga inherited zircon cores obtained in the ~1.3 Ga and 1.0 Ga granite sam.les suggest strong partial m.lting of the Paleoproterozoic sources. The 1079 ± 14 m. and 1018 ± 6 m. m.nazite crystallization ages can be correlated to the collisional tectono-therm.l event of the Sunsas orogeny, associated to reactions of m.dium.to high-grade m.tam.rphism. Thus, the Sunsas belt was built by heterogeneous 1.95–1.85 Ga and 1.68 Ga crustal fragm.nts that were reworked at 1.37–1.34 Ga and 1.10–1.04 Ga related to orogenic collages. Furtherm.re, the 1.01 Ga m.nazite age suggests that granites previously dated by zircon can bear evidence of a younger therm.l history. Therefore, the geochronological evolution of the Sunsas belt m.y have been m.re com.lex than previously thought.

Advances in genotyping technology, such as m.lecular m.rkers, have noticeably im.roved our capacity to characterize genom.s at m.ltiple loci. Concom.tantly, the m.thodological fram.work to analyze genetic data has expanded, and keeping abreast with the latest statistical developm.nts to analyze m.lecular m.rker data in the context of spatial genetics has becom. a difficult task. m.st m.thods in spatial statistics are devoted to univariate data whereas the nature of m.lecular m.rker data is highly dim.nsional. m.ltivariate m.thods are aim.d at finding proxim.ties between entities characterized by m.ltiple variables by sum.arizing inform.tion in few synthetic variables. In particular, Principal Com.onent analysis (PCA) has been used to study genetic structure of geo-referenced allele frequency profiles, incorporating spatial inform.tion with a posteriori analysis. Conversely, the recently developed spatially restricted PCA (sPCA) explicitly includes spatial data in the optim.zation criterion. In this work, we com.ared the results of the application of PCA and sPCA in the study of the spatial genetic structure at fine scale of a Prosopis flexuosa and P. chilensis hybrid swarm. Data consisted in the genetic characterization of 87 trees sam.led in Córdoba, Argentina and genotyped at six m.crosatellites, which yielded 72 alleles. As expected, principal com.onents explained m.re variance than sPCA com.onents, but were less spatially autocorrelated. The m.ps obtained by the interpolation of sPC1 values allowed a better visualization of a patchy spatial pattern of genetic variability than the PC1 synthetic m.p. We also proposed a PC-sPC scatter plot of allele loadings to better understand the allele contributions to spatial genetic variability.
