Slurry casting has been used to fabricate lithium-ion battery electrodes for decades,which involves toxic and expensive organic solvents followed by high-cost vacuum drying and electrode *** work presents a new manufacturing method using a nonthermal plasma to create inter-particle binding without using any polymeric binding materials,enabling solvent-free manufacturing electrodes with any electrochemistry of *** cold-plasma-coating technique enables fabricating electrodes with thickness(>200 pm),high mass loading(>30 mg cm^(-2)),high peel strength,and the ability to print lithium-ion batteries in an arbitrary *** crosscutting,chemistry agnostic,platform technology would increase energy density,eliminate the use of solvents,vacuum drying,and calendering processes during production,and reduce manufacturing cost for current and future cell ***,lithium iron phosphate and lithium cobalt oxide were used as examples to demonstrate the efficacy of the cold-plasma-coating *** is found that the mechanical peel strength of cold-plasma-coating-manufactured lithium iron phosphate is over an order of magnitude higher than that of slurry-casted lithium iron phosphate *** cells assembled with a graphite anode and the cold-plasma-coating-lithium iron phosphate cathode offer highly reversible cycling performance with a capacity retention of 81.6%over 500 *** the highly conductive cathode material lithium cobalt oxide,an areal capacity of 4.2 mAh cm^(-2)at 0.2 C is *** anticipate that this new,highly scalable manufacturing technique will redefine global lithium-ion battery manufacturing providing significantly reduced plant footprints and material costs.

Zinc metabolism at the cellular level is critical for many biological processes in the body.A key observation is the disruption of cellular homeostasis,often coinciding with disease *** an essential factor in maintaining cellular equilibrium,cellular zinc has been increasingly spotlighted in the context of disease *** research suggests zinc’s involvement in promoting malignancy and invasion in cancer cells,despite its low tissue *** has led to a growing body of literature investigating zinc’s cellular metabolism,particularly the functions of zinc transporters and storage mechanisms during cancer *** transportation is under the control of two major transporter families:SLC30(ZnT)for the excretion of zinc and SLC39(ZIP)for the zinc ***,the storage of this essential element is predominantly mediated by metallothioneins(MTs).This review consolidates knowledge on the critical functions of cellular zinc signaling and underscores potential molecular pathways linking zinc metabolism to disease progression,with a special focus on *** also compile a summary of clinical trials involving zinc *** the main localization of zinc transporters at the cell membrane,the potential for targeted therapies,including small molecules and monoclonal antibodies,offers promising avenues for future exploration.

Relative difficulty distillation for semantic segmentation

Current knowledge distillation(KD) methods primarily focus on transferring various structured knowledge and designing corresponding optimization goals to encourage the student network to imitate the output of the teacher network. However, introducing too many additional optimization objectives may lead to unstable training, such as gradient conflicts. Moreover, these methods ignored the guidelines of relative learning difficulty between the teacher and student networks. Inspired by human cognitive science, in this paper, we redefine knowledge from a new perspective — the student and teacher networks' relative difficulty of samples, and propose a pixel-level KD paradigm for semantic segmentation named relative difficulty distillation(RDD). We propose a two-stage RDD framework: teacher-full evaluated RDD(TFE-RDD) and teacher-student evaluated RDD(tse-RDD). RDD allows the teacher network to provide effective guidance on learning focus without additional optimization goals, thus avoiding adjusting learning weights for multiple losses. Extensive experimental evaluations using a general distillation loss function on popular datasets such as Cityscapes, Cam Vid, Pascal VOC, and ADE20k demonstrate the effectiveness of RDD against state-ofthe-art KD methods. Additionally, our research showcases that RDD can integrate with existing KD methods to improve their upper performance bound. Codes are available at https://***/sunyueue/***.

Surgical intervention for acute pancreatitis in the COVID-19 era

Approximately 15%-19%of patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2(SARS-CoV-2)infections develop gastrointestinal *** pancreatitis(AP)has been reported in 0.1%of patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Biliary AP was most common(78.4%)before the COVID-19 pandemic;idiopathic AP is most common in patients with COVID-19(up to 57.1%).The number of emergency department presentations decreased by 23.3%during the pandemic and many governments made national recommendations to delay nonurgent endoscopic procedures,leading to decrements of 22%in combined esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)and colonoscopy and 20%in EGD after the COVID-19 *** symptoms and signs of COVID-19-related AP are fever(63%),abdominal pain(58%),respiratory symptoms(40%),nausea and vomiting(39%),and headache(4%).Approximately 5-10%of patients develop necrotizing or hemorrhagic AP,and patients who required surgical intervention had a higher mortality *** to 2019,the rates of elective surgery decreased by 41.8%in 2020;including cholecystectomy(40.1%decrease)and pancreas(111.1%decrease).Surgical volumes also decreased by 18.7%in 2020;device-assisted laparoscopic and robot-assisted procedures reduced by 45.4%and 61.9%during the COVID-19 Lockdown in 2020.

Alignment control for a long span urban rail-transit cable-stayed bridge considering dynamic train loads

In this paper, bridge alignment control with considering dynamic train loads was experimentally and theoretically *** process of bridge dynamics and the self-adaptive Kalman filter bridge alignment control method with considering the dynamic train loads were briefly introduced. The static measurement, the dynamic test, the field alignment measurement as well as the finite element analysis(FEA) of the second longest rail transit cable-stayed bridge in the world were carried *** on the results, the train dynamic load effect on the bridge alignment was obtained quantitatively. Subsequently, alignment control of the rail transit bridge with considering this effect using a self-adaptive Kalman filter method was analyzed. The results show that:(a) the dynamic train loads have effects on alignment control of the bridge and therefore cannot be neglected;(b) the self-adaptive Kalman filter method is applicable and reliable for alignment control of bridges during construction. The analytical method and whole process contribute to develop a related specification and further engineering applications.

Prognostic analysis of surgical treatment of peripheral cholangiocarcinoma: Two decades of experience at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital

AIM: To analyze the prognostic factors influencing the overall survival of peripheral cholangiocarcinoma (PCC) patients undergoing surgical treatment during 25 years at a single institution. METHODS: This study retrospectively reviewed prospectively collecting data about 373 patients with historically proven PCC who underwent surgical treatment between 1977 and 2001. RESULTS: Three hundred and seventy-three PCC patients (159 men and 214 women) underwent surgical treatment from 1977 to 2001. Among them, 187 PCC patients underwent hepatectomy and 135 had curative resection (curative resectability rate: 36.2%). The follow-up duration ranged from 1.05 to 167.6 mo (mean/median = 14.1/7.2 mo). Overall cumulative survival rates at 1, 3, and 5 years were 32.5%, 9.2%, and 4.1%, respectively. Univariate log-rank analysis identified the following as adverse influences on overall survival: presence of symptoms, absence of mucobilia, elevated CEA and CA 19-9 levels, non-papillary tumor type, receiving non-hepatectomy, advanced tumor staging, lack of post-operative chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Meanwhile, multivariate Cox's proportional hazard analysis demonstrated that absence of mucobilia, non-papillary tumor type, advanced tumor staging, non-hepatectomy, and lack of post-operative chemotherapy were the five independent prognostic factors that adversely affected overall survival. CONCLUSION: Favorable overall survival of PCC patients undergoing surgical treatment depends on early tumor stage, presence of mucobilia, papillary tumor type, hepatic resection, and post-operative chemotherapy.

Efficacy of surgical resection in management of isolated extrahepatic metastases of hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM:To clarify the benefit of surgical excision for patients with extrahepatic metastases of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 140 patients with pathologically proven extrahepatic metastases of HCC and evaluated the outcomes of those who had undergone surgical resection(SR)for extrahepatic metastatic *** made on the basis of extrahepatic metastatic sites were also examined. RESULTS:The survival rates of patients who underwent SR of extrahepatic metastases were significantly better than those of patients who did not receive SR. For the SR group,1-and 3-year survival rates were 24%and 7%,respectively,while for the non-resection group,the survival rates were 8%and 0%,respec- tively(P<0.0001).Survival rates related to metastatic sites were also significantly superior after SR of extrahepatic metastases:median survivals were 32 mo with lung metastasis,10 mo with bone metastasis,6.1 mo with brain metastasis. CONCLUSION:SR can provide survival benefits forpatients with 1 or 2 isolated extrahepatic metastases and who concurrently exhibit good hepatic functional reserve and general performance status as well as successful treatment of intrahepatic HCC.

BACKGROUND Bariatric surgery is one of most effective long-term treatments for morbid ***,post-bariatric surgery anemia is identified as a common adverse effect and remains a challenge *** To estimate the risk of post-bariatric surgery anemia and to stratify the association between age,gender,and types of *** This study is a population-based cohort *** conducted this nationwide study using claims data from National Health Insurance Research Database in *** were 4373 morbidly obese patients in this study *** Among patients who were diagnosed with morbid obesity,2864 received bariatric *** obesity-associated comorbidities decreased in the surgical *** risk of post-bariatric surgery anemia among obese patients was found by Cox proportional hazards regression[adjusted hazard ratio(HR):2.36].Also,we found significantly increasing cumulative incidence rate of anemia among patients receiving bariatric surgery by log-rank *** adjusting for age and gender,the increasing incidence of post-bariatric surgery anemia was found among women(adjusted HR:2.48),patients in the 20–29-year-old group(adjusted HR:3.83),and patients in the 30-64-year-old group(adjusted HR:2.37).Moreover,malabsorptive and restrictive procedures had significantly higher adjusted HRs,3.18 and 1.55,*** Bariatric surgery give rise to anemia risk among obese patients,specifically in women,young-and middle-aged patients,and patients undergoing malabsorptive procedures in our population-based cohort study in Taiwan.
