The characteristics of 48 rice varieties from Uttarakhand Himalaya, India were detected by morphological and biochemical markers. The grains of the selected rice varieties varied in their morphological （grain length, grain width and grain weight） and biochemical characters （sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, SdS-PAGE）. Based on the presence of 70, 65, 60, 57, 37-39, 22-23, 13 and 10 kda protein bands in the 48 rice varieties, seven types of profiles were identified. An unweighted pair group average method with arithmetic mean （UPGMA） dendrogram based on cluster analysis of genetic similarity of the protein bands showed two distinct groups with 1%-78% similarity coefficients. The presence of characteristic bands in selected varieties is a useful parameter for identification of rice germplasm.

Efficacy of a diabetes Specific Nutritional Supplement (dSNS) on Glycemic Response in Prediabetic Adults: A Two-Armed, Open-Labelled Randomized Controlled Study

It is well known that diabetes Specific Nutritional Supplements (dSNSs) are linked to improved glycemic control in individuals with diabetes. However, data on efficacy of dSNSs in prediabetics is limited. This was a two-armed, open-labelled, randomized controlled six-week study on 199 prediabetics [30 - 65 years;Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) 5.7% - 6.4% and/or Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) 100-125 mg/dl]. Two parallel phases were conducted: Acute Blood Glucose Response (ABGR) and Intervention phase. Prediabetic participants were randomized into test (n = 100) and control (n = 99). The primary objective was to assess the ABGR of dSNS versus an isocaloric snack, measured by incremental Area under the Curve (iAUC). Test and control received 60 g of dSNS and 56 g of isocaloric snack (cornflakes) respectively, both in 250 ml double-toned milk on visit days 1, 15, 29 and 43. Postprandial Blood Glucose (PPG) was estimated at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 minutes. during the 4 weeks intervention phase, the test group received dSNS with lifestyle counselling (dSNS + LC) and was compared with the control receiving lifestyle counselling alone (LC alone). Impact was studied on FBG, HbA1C, anthropometry, body composition, blood pressure, nutrient intake, and physical activity. The impact of dSNS was also studied using CGM between two 14-day phases: CGM1 baseline (days 1 - 14) and CGM2 endline (days 28 - 42). dSNS showed significantly lower PPG versus isocaloric snack at 30 (p 12, and chromium were reported by dSNS + LC versus LC alone. No other significant changes were reported between groups. It may be concluded that dSNS may be considered as a snack for prediabetic or hyperglycemic individuals requiring nutritional support for improved glycemic control.

Water dispersible silver nanoparticles（AgNps） were prepared using thiacalix[4]arene tetrahydrazide（TCTH） as a reducing and stabilizing ***-AgNps were characterized by surface plasmon resonance（SPR）,transmission electron microscopy（TEM） and energy dispersive X-ray（EdX）.Relatively uniform 20 nm spherical particles of TCTH-AgNps were efficiently formed over a pH range of 5-9 and from 10-40 ℃.The interaction behavior of TCTH-AgNps with different amino acids was investigated using spectrophotometry and *** the amino acids tested,only tryptophan and histidine showed fluorescence quenching and fluorescence enhancement,*** linear detection range by Stern-Volmer plot was 5 nmol/L to 0.48 μmol/L for tryptophan and 4 nmol/L to 0.54 μmol/L for ***-AgNps were able to effectively reduce the levels of gram-positive bacteria,gram-negative bacteria,and *** properties argue for the potential use of TCTH-AgNps as detectors of histidine and tryptophan and as antibiotics.

Apple(Malus × domestica) is largely known for polyphenolic and antioxidant properties; however, systematic investigation in the apple growing in the Indian Himalayan region is not carried out. The present study therefore, attempts to quantify polyphenolics and antioxidant activities in three traditional apple cultivars namely 'Benoni', 'Fanny' and 'Rymer' growing at different locations of Uttarakhand(west Himalaya), *** revealed that phenolic(0.94–7.00 mg GAE·g^(-1)FW), flavonoid(1.02–9.86 mg QE·g^(-1)FW), flavonol(0.77–6.92 mg CE·g^(-1) FW), tannin(15.49–37.99 mg TAE·g^(-1) FW) and antioxidant activity(ABTS, 3.10–67.36; dPPH, 4.99–14.06; FRAP, 4.70–39.21 mmol AAE·kg^(-1)FW) varied significantly among the cultivars and maximum content was recorded in Rymer fruits of Mukhwa location. Altitude showed significant(P d(r = 0.843), flavonol(r = 0.812), ABTS(r = 0.856) and FRAP activity(r = 0.830). Based on the results, it is concluded that among three cultivars, Rymer is one of the most promising sources of polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity and therefore, recommended for mass plantation at suitable locations in Uttarakhand for harnessing maximum potential.

Adipose derived stem cells represent a readily available source of adult stem cells for various biomedical applications. In this study, the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation potential of lanthanum nitrate（La3＋） on human adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells（hAdSCs） were investigated for the first time and compared with that of dexamethasone（dex）. Our results provided evidence that La3＋ at 50 μmol/L concentration promoted proliferation of hAdSCs upto 2.4 fold when treated for 21 d in dMEM medium. Treatment of hAdSCs with La3＋ containing osteogenic induction medium（α-MEM with ascorbic acid and β-glycerophosphate） for 7 d resulted in higher calcium deposition than that in the presence of dex（0.1 μmol/L） as shown by Alizarin red S and von Kossa staining. Scanning electron micrographs also showed more extracellular matrix mineralization in the presence of La3＋. After 7 d of treatment with La3＋（10 μmol/L） the expression of RunX2, osteopontin（OP） and osteocalcin（OC） increased 3.4, 5.5 and 2.7 fold respectively. Our results provided evidence that in the presence of La3＋ osteogenic differentiation occurred earlier than that in the presence of dex.

We have studied the structural and atomic transport properties of liquid f-shell Yb in the temperature range 1123 K–1473 K. Pair interactions between atoms are derived using a local pseudopotential. The potential parameters are fitted to the phonon dispersion curve at room temperature. The local pseudopotential used in the present study is computationally more efficient with only three parameters, and it is found to be transferable to the liquid phase without changing the *** the various computed properties agree with reported theoretical and experimental findings, the adopted fitting scheme is justified. As a significant outcome of the study, we find that(i) the melting in Yb is governed by the Lindemann's law,(ii)the mass transport mechanism obeys the Arrhenius law,(iii) the role of the three-particle correlation function in deriving the velocity autocorrelation function is small,(iv) the mean-square atomic displacement is more sensitive to the choice of interaction potential than the other bulk properties, and(v) liquid Yb does not show liquid–liquid phase transition within the studied temperature range. Further, due to the good description of the structural and mass transport properties, we propose that Yb remains divalent at reduced density.

In this paper, the problem of robust absolute stability of Lurie system with probabilistic time-varying delay and normbounded parametric uncertainty is considered. The time delay variation range is divided into two sub-intervals. By considering the probability distribution of the time-varying delay between the two sub-intervals and the knowledge of the delay variation range, a novel linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) based stability condition is derived by defining a Lyapunov Krasovskii functional. It is illustrated with the help of numerical examples that the derived stability criteria can lead to less conservative results as compared to the results obtained by the traditional method of using the delay variation range information only.

Luminescence and low temperature trap centers in mixed rare earth borate crystal

The single crystal of this compound has been grown from melt by using a conventional Czochralski technique. The temperature dependent luminescence spectra were measured using a 265 nm laser as an exciting source in the range of 10-300 K. The scintillation decay time profile was measured and found to have three components. The influence of the trap centers on the luminescence properties was studied by means of thermoluminescence（TL） glow peak analysis. Low temperature TL glow peaks were measured in the temperature range of 10-300 K at the heating rate of 0.1 K/s for X-ray irradiated sample. The TL glow peak consists of two dominant peaks at 88 and 109 K. Several glow peaks with a complex nature causes the decrease in the light yield at temperatures below 250 K, and along with long scintillation decay components were observed. The trap parameters such as activation energy（E）, frequency factor（s）and order of kinetics（b） were calculated using various standard methods such as peak shape（PS）,variable heating rate（VHR）, initial rise（IR） and computerized glow curve deconvolution（CGCd）.

目的:比较Artisan和Artiflex有晶状体眼人工晶状体(PIOL)矫正亚洲人群高度近视的屈光度和安全性。方法:历史队列研究。回顾2016/2020在印度尼西亚日惹市Yap眼科医院接受PIOL植入术的81例高度近视眼。根据植入PIOL分为Artisan组43眼,Artiflex组38眼。分别记录术前及术后1d、1、3mo的视力、角膜生物显微镜参数和眼压,包括术前前房深度。结果:Artisan和Artiflex组的平均随访时间分别为9.64±6.93mo和8.96±4.28mo(P=0.736)。Artisan组的疗效指数为1.03±0.47,Artiflex组为1.02±0.17(P=0.119);安全性指数分别为1.10±0.45和1.05±0.21(Pd,Artiflex组为-0.22±0.58d(P=0.076)。两组术后内皮细胞密度(ECd)较术前均显著下降(Pd缺失率为7.44%和5.79%(P=0.418)。结论:Artisan和Artiflex矫正亚洲人高度近视的屈光效果相当。与Artiflex相比,Artisan的安全指数略高,而两组的疗效指数和累积ECd缺失率相似。
