The global oceanic/atmospheric tides exert decelerating/accelerating secular torques on the Earth rotation. We developed new formulations to accurately calculate amounts of two kinds of secular tidal torques. After Melchior, we found that an additional factor 1+k-l = 1.216, which has been formerly neglected, must be multiplied unto the tidal torque integral. By using our refined formulations and the recent oceanic/atmospheric global tide models, we found that:(i) semidiurnal oceanic lunar/solar tides exert decelerating torques of about-4.462 × 10^(16)/-0.676 × 10^(16) Nm respectively and(ii) atmospheric S_2 tide exerts accelerating torque of 1.55 × 10^(15) Nm. Former estimates of the atmospheric S_2 tidal torque were twice as large as our estimate due to improper consideration of loading effect. We took the load Love number for atmospheric loading effect from Guo et al.(2004). For atmospheric loading of spherical harmonic degree two, the value of k′=-0.6031 is different from that for ocean loading as k′ =-0.3052,while the latter is currently used for both cases-ocean/atmospheric loading-without distinction. We discuss(i) the amount of solid Earth tidal dissipation(which has been left most uncertain) and(ii) secular changes of the dynamical state of the Earth-moon-Sun system. Our estimate of the solid Earth tidal torque is-4.94×10^(15) Nm.

Krill oil (KO) exhibits various biological activities， such as anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects. However， the inhibitory effects of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in vitro and in vivo have not yet been studied. This study investigated the anti-BPH effects of KO extracted by an enzymatic hydrolysis method. KO treatment inhibited the proliferation of WMPY-1 and BPH-1 cells by induction of G0/G1phase arrest through the modulation of positive and negative regulators in both prostate cell types. KO treatment stimulated phosphorylation of JNK and p38 signaling. In addition， KO changed the expression of BPH-related markers (5α-reductase， androgen receptor， FGF， Bcl-2， and Bax) and the activity of the proliferation-mediated NF-κB binding motif. KO-induced levels of proliferation-mediated molecules of prostate cells were attenuated in the presence of siRNA-specific p-38 (si-p38) and JNK (si-JNK). Furthermore， the administration of KO alleviated prostate size and weight and the cell layer thickness of prostate glands in a testosterone enanthate-induced BPH rat model. KO treatment altered the level of dihydrotestosterone in serum and the expression levels of BPH-related markers in prostate tissues. Finally， KO-mediated inhibition of prostatic growth was validated by histological analysis. These results suggest that KO has an inhibitory effect on BPH in prostate cells in vitro and in vivo. Thus， KO might be a potential prophylactic or therapeutic agent for patients with BPH.

AIM To evaluate the short health scale(SHS),a new,simple,four-part visual analogue scale questionnaire that is designed to assess the impact of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)on health-related quality of life(HRQOL),in Korean-speaking patients with *** The SHS was completed by 256 patients with Crohn’s disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC).Individual SHS items were correlated with inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire(IBDQ)dimensions and with disease activity to assess ***-retest reliability,responsiveness and patient or disease characteristics with probable association with high SHS scores were *** Of 256 patients with IBD,139(54.3%)had UC and 117(45.7%)had *** correlation coefficients between SHS questions about"symptom burden","activities of daily living",and"disease-related worry"and their corresponding dimensions in the IBDQ ranged from0.62 to 0.71,compared with correlation coefficients ranging from-0.45 to-0.61 for their non-corresponding *** was a stepwise increase in SHS scores,with increasing disease activity in both CD and UC(all P values<0.001).Reliability was confirmed with test-retest correlations ranging from 0.68 to 0.90(all P values<0.001).Responsiveness was confirmed with the patients who remained in *** SHS scores remained unchanged,except for the SHS dimension"disease-related worry".In the multivariate analysis,female sex was associated with worse"general well-being"(OR=2.28,95%CI:1.02-5.08)along with worse disease *** The SHS is a valid and reliable measure of HRQOL in Korean-speaking patients with IBD.

Silicon(Si)is considered a potential alternative anode for next-generation Li-ion batteries owing to its high theoretical capacity and ***,the commercial use of Si anodes is hindered by their large volume expansion(~300%).Numerous efforts have been made to address this *** these efforts,Si-graphite co-utilization has attracted attention as a reasonable alternative for high-energy anodes.A comparative study of representative commercial Si-based materials,such as Si nanoparticles,Si suboxides,and Si−Graphite composites(SiGC),was conducted to characterize their overall performance in high-energy lithium-ion battery(LIB)design by incorporating conventional ***-Si was found to exhibit poor electrochemical performance,with severe volume expansion during *** suboxide provided excellent cycling stability in a full-cell evaluation with stable volume variation after 50 cycles,but had a large irreversible capacity and remarkable volume expansion during the first *** displayed a good initial Coulombic efficiency and the lowest volume change in the first cycle owing to the uniformly distributed nano-Si layer on graphite;however,its long-term cycling stability was relatively *** complement each disadvantage of Si suboxide and SiGC,a new combination of these Si-based anodes was suggested and a reasonable improvement in overall battery performance was successfully achieved.
