Current therapeutic approaches for volumetric muscle loss(VML)face challenges due to limited graft availability and insufficient *** overcome these limitations,tissue-engineered scaffolds have emerged as a promising *** this study,we developed aligned ternary nanofibrous matrices comprised of poly(lactide-co-ε-caprolactone)integrated with collagen and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene nanoparticles(NPs)(PCM matrices),and explored their myogenic potential for skeletal muscle tissue *** PCM matrices demonstrated favorable physicochemical properties,including structural uniformity,alignment,microporosity,and *** vitro assays revealed that the PCM matrices promoted cellular behaviors and myogenic differentiation of C2C12 ***,in vivo experiments demonstrated enhanced muscle remodeling and recovery in mice treated with PCM matrices following VML *** insights from next-generation sequencing revealed that MXene NPs facilitated protein and ion availability within PCM matrices,leading to elevated intracellular Ca^(2+)levels in myoblasts through the activation of inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS)and serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1(SGK1),ultimately promoting myogenic differentiation via the m TOR-AKT ***,upregulated i NOS and increased NO–contributed to myoblast proliferation and fiber fusion,thereby facilitating overall myoblast *** findings underscore the potential of MXene NPs loaded within highly aligned matrices as therapeutic agents to promote skeletal muscle tissue recovery.

Long-term outcomes of endoscopic submucosal dissection for undifferentiated type early gastric cancer over 2 cm with R0 resection

BACKGROUND Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)for over 2 cm in size undifferentiated type(UD type)early gastric cancer(EGC)confined to the mucosa is not only challenging,but also long-term outcomes are not well *** To evaluate the long-term outcomes of ESD done for UD type EGCs confined to the mucosa over 2 cm in size and compare the results with those where the lesions were less than 2 *** 143 patients with UD type EGC confirmed on histology after ESD at a tertiary hospital were *** with synchronous and metachronous lesions and a case with emergency surgery after ESD were excluded.A total of 137 cases were enrolled.79 cases who underwent R0 resection were divided into 2 cm or less(group A)and over 2 cm(group B)in *** Among 79 patients who underwent R0 resection,the number in group A and B were 51 and 28,*** mean follow-up period(SD)was 79.71±45.42 *** was a local recurrence in group A(1/51,2%)and group B(1/28,3.6%)*** patient in group A underwent surgery while the patient in group B underwent repeated ESD with no further recurrences in both *** was no regional lymph node metastasis,distant metastasis,and deaths in both *** R0 resection strategy for ESD on lesions over 2 cm,20.4%(28/137)of patients were able to avoid surgery compared with expanded *** If R0 resection is achieved by ESD,UD type EGCs over 2 cm also showed good and similar clinical outcomes as compared to lesions less than 2 cm when followed for over 5 *** R0 resection strategy,several patients can avoid surgery.

Comparison of macular changes according to the etiology of optic neuritis:a cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND Since fat does not transmit electrical energy well,delayed perforation and postpolypectomy syndrome due to electrical thermal injury are concerns in the endoscopic removal of colonic *** endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)technique concentrates electrical energy conducts to the submucosa,not the adipose *** helps to minimize electrical thermal injury,especially in the case of large colonic *** rare cases,such as colonic lipomas accompanied by mucosal lesions,it is difficult for endoscopists to decide how to safely remove *** SUMMARY A 78-year-old man underwent colonoscopy for colorectal cancer *** colonoscopy,a yellowish submucosal tumor with positive cushion sign was observed in the ascending colon measuring about 4.5 cm.A nodular mucosal lesion of about 2.5 cm was observed on the mucosal surface of the *** lipoma was so large that it occupied much of the inside of the colon,making it difficult to see the entire laterally spreading tumor(LST)at *** LST was confined to the surface of the lipoma,which had a semipedunculated shape with a wide *** margin of the LST was not observed at the neck of the *** was performed and the colonic lipoma with the LST was successfully removed without *** 3 d of hospitalization,the patient was discharged without any *** final pathology report showed that the lesion consisted of submucosal lipoma and tubulovillous adenoma with lowgrade *** ESD is effective and safe for treating a large colonic lipoma with an LST by minimizing electrical thermal injury.

We demonstrate integrated photonic circuits for quantum devices using sputtered polycrystalline aluminum nitride(Al N)on ***-chip Al N waveguide directional couplers,which are one of the most important components in quantum photonics,are fabricated and show the output power splitting ratios from 50:50 to 99:*** beam splitters with an extinction ratio of more than 10 d B are also realized from the Al N directional *** the fabricated Al N waveguide beam splitters,we observe Hong–Ou–Mandel interference with a visibility of 91.7%±5.66%.

Polymer waveguide tunable transceiver for photonic front-end in the 5G wireless network

A photonic front-end in the 5 G wireless network based on wavelength-division multiplexing optical communication requires low-cost tunable transceivers. By exploiting polymer waveguide Bragg-grating technology, we propose a tunable transceiver consisting of an external cavity tunable laser and a tilted grating tunable *** particular, a double-reflection tunable filter provides narrower reflection bandwidth and suppresses undesired mode coupling, improving the side-mode suppression ratio(SMSR) and reducing adjacent-channel crosstalk. By introducing perfluorinated polymers with low birefringence, polarization independence, which is a prerequisite for wavelength filter elements, is secured, and 20 d B bandwidth of 0.69 nm, wavelength tunability over 40 nm,and SMSR of 42 d B are achieved.

Structural plasticity is critical for the functional diversity of neurons in the *** autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE)is the most commonly used model for multiple sclerosis(MS),successfully mimicking its key pathological features(inflammation,demyelination,axonal loss,and gliosis)and clinical symptoms(motor and non-motordysfunctions).Recentstudieshave demonstrated the importance of synaptic plasticity in EAE *** the present study,we investigated the features of behavioral alteration and hippocampal structural plasticity in EAE-affected mice in the early phase(11 days post-immunization,DPI)and chronic phase(28DPI).EAE-affected mice exhibited hippocampus-related behavioral dysfunction in the open field test during both early and chronic *** complexity was largely affected in the cornu ammonis 1(CA1)and CA3 apical and dentate gyrus(DG)subregions of the hippocampus during the chronic phase,while this effect was only noted in the CA1 apical subregion in the early ***,dendritic spine density was reduced in the hippocampal CA1 and CA3 apical/basal and DG subregions in the early phase of EAE,but only reduced in the DG subregion during the chronic ***,mRNA levels of proinflammatory cytokines(Il1β,Tnfα,and Ifnγ)and glial cell markers(Gfap and Cd68)were significantly increased,whereas the expression of activity-regulated cytoskeletonassociated protein(ARC)was reduced during the chronic ***,exposure to the aforementioned cytokines in primary cultures of hippocampal neurons reduced dendritic complexity and ARC *** cultures of hippocampal neurons also showed significantly reduced extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)phosphorylation upon treatment with proinflammatory ***,these results suggest that autoimmune neuroinflammation alters structural plasticity in the hippocampus,possibly through the ERK-ARC pathway,indicating that this alteration may be associated with hi

Immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer, a highly lethal cancer, has the lowest 5-year survival rate forseveral reasons, including its tendency for the late diagnosis, a lack of serologicmarkers for screening, aggressive local invasion, its early metastaticdissemination, and its resistance to chemotherapy/radiotherapy. Pancreaticcancer evades immunologic elimination by a variety of mechanisms, includinginduction of an immunosuppressive microenvironment. Cancer-associatedfibroblasts interact with inhibitory immune cells, such as tumor-associatedmacrophages and regulatory T cells, to form an inflammatory shell-like desmoplasticstroma around tumor cells. Immunotherapy has the potential to mobilizethe immune system to eliminate cancer cells. Nevertheless, althoughimmunotherapy has shown brilliant results across a wide range of malignancies,only anti-programmed cell death 1 antibodies have been approved for use inpatients with pancreatic cancer who test positive for microsatellite instability ormismatch repair deficiency. Some patients treated with immunotherapy whoshow progression based on conventional response criteria may prove to have adurable response later. Continuation of immune-based treatment beyond diseaseprogression can be chosen if the patient is clinically stable. Immunotherapeuticapproaches for pancreatic cancer treatment deserve further exploration, given theplethora of combination trials with other immunotherapeutic agents, targetedtherapy, stroma-modulating agents, chemotherapy, and multi-way combinationtherapies.

Comparison of Minimal Skin Incision Technique in Living Kidney Transplantation and Conventional Kidney Transplantation

Background：Recently,the most common incision for kidney transplantation （KT） is an inverted J-shaped incision known as the ＆quot;hockey-stick.＆quot; However,demands for minimally invasive surgery in KT are increasing as in other various fields of ***,we evaluated whether there is difference between minimal skin incision technique in kidney transplantation （MIKT） and conventional KT （CKT）.Methods：Between June 2006 and March 2013,a total of 452 living kidney transplant patients were *** MIKT group included 17 young unmarried women whose body mass index was 〈25 kg/m^2 and had no anatomic *** CKT group included 435 *** MIKT operation technique restricted to the 10 cm-sized skin incision in the lower right abdomen from laterally below the anterior superior iliac spine to the midline just above the pubis was *** compared the baseline clinical characteristics and postoperative results between two *** proper comparison,propensity score matching was ***：There was no difference in graft function,survival,and postoperative complication rate between MIKT and CKT groups （all P 〉 0.05）.The 5-year graft survival was 92.3% and 85.7% in MIKT and CKT groups,respectively （P =0.786）.Conclusions：Our results indicated that MIKT showed more favorable cosmetic results,and there were no statistical differences in various postoperative factors including graft function,survival,and complications compared with ***,we suggested that MIKT is an appropriate method for selected patients in living KT.

Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)have drawn significant attention owing to their high theoretical discharge capacity and energy ***,the dissolution of long-chain polysulfides into the electrolyte during the charge and discharge process(“shuttle effect”)results in fast capacity fading and inferior electrochemical *** this study,Mn_(2)O_(3)with an ordered mesoporous structure(OM-Mn_(2)O_(3))was designed as a cathode host for LSBs via KIT-6 hard templating,to effectively inhibit the polysulfide shuttle ***-Mn_(2)O_(3)offers numerous pores to confine sulfur and tightly anchor the dissolved polysulfides through the combined effects of strong polar-polar interactions,polysulfides,and sulfur chain *** OM-Mn_(2)O_(3)/S composite electrode delivered a discharge capacity of 561 mAh g-1 after 250 cycles at 0.5 C owing to the excellent performance of OM-Mn_(2)O_(3).Furthermore,it retained a discharge capacity of 628mA h g-1 even at a rate of 2 C,which was significantly higher than that of a pristine sulfur electrode(206mA h g-1).These findings provide a prospective strategy for designing cathode materials for high-performance LSBs.
