Measurement of alumina film induced ablation of internal insulator in solid rocket environment

This study investigates the ablation of internal insulation induced by the deposition of an alumina film with different lateral film speeds.A sub-scale test solid rocket motor(SRM)was designed in an impinging jet configuration to form an alumina film on the sample and to encourage the lateral movement of the film by a high-speed wall *** static fire tests of the test SRM were conducted with six different jet velocities(V_(jet)=100 m/s,150 m/s,200 m/s,268 m/s,330 m/s,and 450 m/s)that indirectly affected the velocity of the wall jet and the deposition rate of alumina *** ablation velocity was deduced from the difference in the sample thickness after a test using a coordinate measuring *** droplet deposition mass flux and wall jet velocity were obtained via two-phase flow simulation with the same jet velocity and effective *** a result,the characteristics of alumina-induced ablation and the changes in ablation with jet velocities were *** area within0.8×jet diameter was focused upon,where the ratio of ablation velocity to incoming alumina mass was constant for each jet velocity,and showed a similarity in jet *** the ablation velocity was increased from 2.05 to 9.98 mm/s with increasing jet velocity,the ratio of the ablation velocity and alumina mass flux decreased from 1.07×10^(-4)to 0.49×10^(-4)m^(3)/kg as Al_(2)O_(3)-C reactions became less efficient with a reduced residence time of the *** the decrease in residence time by the wall jet is more pronounced for slow reactions involved in Al_(2)O_(3)-C reactions,fast reactions in Al_(2)O_(3)-C reactions are less affected and result in a convergence of the volumetric rate of ablation per unit mass of alumina.

Analysis of the Sloshing Flows of a LNG Cargo Tank

The sloshing flows in a LNG cargo tank model （1/50 scale） of a ship are measured by an embedded pano- ramicPIV system. The measurement system consists of a Nd-Yag laser（120mJ, 15Hz）, two cameras（lk x lk） and a host computer. Four experimental cases were tested for the tank model, in which swaying motions are made by a 6 DOF-motion platform. The amplitudes of swaying are 9.76mm and 29.29mm, and the swaying frequencies are 0.633Hz and 0.828Hz. The measurement regions are the vertical plane 50ram away from the front wall of the tank where a pump tower is installed. It was verified that the flow patterns of the sloshing are similar to each other when the swaying amplitudes are similar.

Evaluation of vitamin D level in patients from neurosurgical intensive care unit

Vitamin D plays an important role in maintaining normal bone metabolism. Recent studies have suggested that vitamin D influences many other physiological processes, including muscle function, cardiovascular homeostasis, nerve function, and immune response. Furthermore, accumulated evidence suggests that vitamin D also mediates the immune system response to infection. Critical neurosurgical patients have higher infection and mortality rates. To correlate vitamin D deficiency to the immunological status of neurosurgical intensive care unit patients, we detected serum vitamin D level in 15 patients with clinically suspected infection and 10 patients with confirmed infection. Serum level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the primary circulating form of vitamin D, was significantly decreased in patients with suspected or confirmed infection after a 2-week neurosurgical intensive care unit hospitalization, while serum level of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, the active form of vitamin D, was significantly decreased in patients after a 4-week neurosurgical intensive care unit hospitalization. These findings suggest that vitamin D deficiency is linked to the immunological status of neurosurgical intensive care unit patients and vitamin D supplementation can improve patient＇s immunological status.

AIM:To evaluate clinical outcomes following implantation of an extended range of vision intraocular lens(IOL),the ZXR00,and a diffractive multifocal IOL with+2.75 diopters(D)add power,the ***:Totally 30 patients who underwent either bilateral implantation of the ZXR00 IOL with intended emmetropia(ZXR00 emmetropia group:20 eyes)and intended micromonovision(ZXR00 monovision group:20 eyes),or bilateral implantation of the ZKB00 IOL with intended emmetropia(ZKB00 group:20 eyes)were included in this *** acuity at 4 m,80,and 40 cm;and the types of halos(misty,fine,and rainbow)were analyzed at one and three months after ***:There were no significant differences in distance visual acuity among the three *** mean uncorrected intermediate visual acuity was better in the ZXR00 emmetropia and monovision groups(0.02 logMAR and 0.02 logMAR,respectively)than in the ZKB00 group(0.14 logMAR).The mean uncorrected near visual acuity was worse in the ZXR00 emmetropia group(0.26 logMAR)than in the ZXR00 monovision and ZKB00 groups(0.12 logMAR and 0.10 logMAR,respectively).There was an increased incidence of rainbow halos in the ZKB00 group vs in either ZXR00 group(P=0.033).CONCLUSION:Implantation of the ZXR00 IOL with intended micromonovision provide superior visual acuity than implantation of the ZXR00 IOL with intended *** ZXR00 IOLs tend to show a lower incidence of rainbow halos than did the ZKB00 IOL.

Randomized clinical trial comparing fixed-time split dosing and split dosing of oral Picosulfate regimen for bowel preparation

AIM To compare the efficacy of fixed-time split dose and split dose of an oral sodium picosulfate for bowel *** This is study was prospective, randomized controlled study performed at a single Institution(2013-058). A total of 204 subjects were assigned to receive one of two sodium picosulfate regimens(i.e., fixed-time split or split) prior to colonoscopy. Main outcome measurements were bowel preparation quality and subject *** There was no statistical difference between the fixedtime split dose regimen group and the split dose regimen group(Ottawa score mean 2.57 ± 1.91 vs 2.80 ± 2.51, P = 0.457). Cecal intubation time and physician's satisfaction of inspection were not significantly different between the two groups(P = 0.428, P = 0.489). On subgroup analysis, for afternoon procedures, the fixed-time split dose regimen was equally effective as compared with the split dose regimen(Ottawa score mean 2.56 ± 1.78 vs 2.59 ± 2.27, P = 0.932). There was no difference in tolerability or compliance between the two groups. Nausea was 21.2% in the fixed-time split dose group and 14.3% in the split dose group(P = 0.136). Vomiting was 7.1% and 2.9%(P = 0.164), abdominal discomfort 7.1% and 4.8%(P = 0.484), dizziness 1% and 4.8%(P = 0.113), cold sweating 1% and 0%(P = 0.302) and palpitation 0% and 1%(P = 0.330), respectively. Sleep disturbance was two(2%) patients in the fixed-time split dose group and zero(0%) patient in the split dose preparation(P = 0.143) *** A fixed-time split dose regimen with sodium picosulfate is not inferior to a split dose regimen for bowel preparation and equally effective for afternoon colonoscopy.

＜正＞An electrical balance of plant（E-BOP） of a 600kW molten carbonate fuel cell（MCFC） has to transit from grid-connected（GC） mode to grid-independent（GI） mode when a grid is in a fault conditions.A minimum transition time is limited by four cycle for a 600kW MCFC to ride through a grid *** this paper,we propose a control algorithm of a 600kW E-BOP for a MCFC *** E-BOP has three operation modes,i.e.,GC mode,GI mode,and grid-synchronized（GS） *** E-BOP controls output currents in a GC mode and regulates output voltages in GI or GS *** mode is defined as an interface between GC mode and GI mode to make a mode transition smooth, i.e.,limitation of inrush currents,regulation of output voltages within ANSI *** and experiments carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

Efects on nano zero-valent iron reactivity of interactions between hardness, alkalinity, and natural organic matter in reverse osmosis concentrate

Nanoscale zero-valent iron （NZVI） is considered to have potential to reduce nitrate in the concentrate generated by high pressure membrane processes aimed at water reuse. However, it is necessary to verify the effect of the matrix components in the concentrates on NZVI reactivity. In this study, the influence of hardness, alkalinity, and organic matter on NZVI reactivity was evaluated by the response surface method （RSM）. Hardness （Ca/＋） had a positive effect on NZVI reactivity by accelerating iron corrosion. In contrast, alkalinity （bicarbonate; HCO3） and organic matter （humic acid; HA） had negative effects on NZVI reactivity due to morphological change to carbonate green rust, and to competitive adsorption of HA, respectively. The validity of the statistical prediction model derived from RSM was confirmed by an additional confirmation experiment, and the experimental result was within the 95% confidential interval. Therefore, it can be indicated that the RSM model produced results that were statistically significant.

Phenol content,antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitory activity of mangrove plants in Micronesia

Objective:To find out and compare the in vitro antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitory activities of two species of mangrove ***:Mangrove samples were harvested at the shoreline on the island of Weno,Chuuk State in *** phenol content,antioxidant activity(based on DPPH-free radical scavenging)and tyrosinase inhibitory activity in different tissues(leaves,barks and roots)of Rhizophora stylosa(***)and Sonneratia alba(***),collected from the island of ***:Total phenol content ranged from 4.87 to 11.96 mg per g of freeze dried *** highest antioxidant activity was observed in *** bark(85.5%).The highest tyrosinase inhibitory activity was found in *** ***,total phenol content and antioxidant activity were higher in methanol extracts than in aqueous ***:Taken together,the results of this study proved that mangroves can be excellent sources of antioxidant compounds.
