skin is widely used as a drug delivery route due to its easy access and the possibility of using relatively painless methods for the administration of bioactive ***,the barrier properties of the skin,along with its multilayer structure,impose severe restrictions on drug transport and ***,bioengineered models aimed at emulating the skin have been developed not only for optimizing the transdermal transport of different drugs and testing the safety and toxicity of substances but also for understanding the biological processes behind skin *** though in vivo research is often preferred to study biological processes involving the skin,in vitro and ex vivo strategies have been gaining increasing relevance in recent ***,there is a noticeably increasing adoption of in vitro and ex vivo methods by internationally accepted ***,microfluidic organ-on-a-chip devices are nowadays emerging as valuable tools for functional and behavioural skin *** in miniaturization,automation and reliability still need to be addressed in order to create skin models that can predict skin behaviour in a robust,high-throughput manner,while being compliant with regulatory issues,standards and *** this review,skin models for transdermal transport,wound repair and cutaneous toxicity will be discussed with a focus on high-throughput *** microfluidic strategies driven by advancements in microfabrication technologies will also be revised as a way to improve the efficiency of existing models,both in terms of complexity and throughput.

Combinatorial therapies for spinal cord injury repair

spinal cord injuries have profound detrimental effects on individuals, regardless of whether they are caused by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromised regeneration of the spinal cord is primarily attributed to damaged neurons, inhibitory molecules, dysfunctional immune response, and glial scarring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments available that can fully repair the spinal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheless, numerous pre-clinical approaches have been studied for spinal cord injury recovery, including using biomaterials, cells, drugs, or technological-based strategies. Combinatorial treatments, which target various aspects of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, have been extensively tested in the last decade. These approaches aim to synergistically enhance repair processes by addressing various obstacles faced during spinal cord regeneration. Thus, this review intends to provide scientists and clinicians with an overview of pre-clinical combinatorial approaches that have been developed toward the solution of spinal cord regeneration as well as update the current knowledge about spinal cord injury pathophysiology with an emphasis on the current clinical management.

Analysis of alternative parameters of dynamic resistance measurement in high voltage circuit breakers

Throughout its lifetime,high-voltage circuit breaker(HVCB)contacts suffer from inevitable degradation processes,especially during the formation of electric *** degraded contacts can reduce the current interruption capacity and increase the chances of operational faults,which might lead to considerable financial ***,the use of efficient evaluating techniques is a key factor to achieve systems *** dynamic resistance measurement(DRM)is a technique that can be used to evaluate the degradation level of HVCB'*** stands out from the usual technique,static resistance measurement,by allowing the assessment of both the main contacts and the arcing contacts(ACs).Usually,the mean resistance or the area under the DRM curve is used to estimate the AC ***,DRM is a non-standardised technique and there are no specified parameters to evaluate the real wear ***,an analysis of alternative parameters extractible from the DRM technique is presented in this study,such as amplitude and variance of the DRM *** results attest the possible use of more than one parameter for the continuous evaluation of HVCB ACs,characterising the DRM as a more complete and precise diagnosis tool.

decades of research asserted that the oligodendroglial lineage comprises two cell types:oligodendrocyte precursor cells and ***,recent studies employing single-cell RNA sequencing techniques have uncovered novel cell states,prompting a revision of the existing *** forward,the oligodendroglial lineage should be delineated into five distinct cell states:oligodendrocyte precursor cells,committed oligodendrocyte precursor cells,newly formed oligodendrocytes,myelin-forming oligodendrocytes,and mature *** new classification system enables a deeper understanding of the oligodendroglia in both physiological and pathological *** this uniform terminology will facilitate comparison and integration of data across ***,including the consolidation of findings from various demyelinating models,is essential to better understand the pathogenesis of demyelinating ***,comparing injury models across species with varying regenerative capacities can provide insights that may lead to new therapeutic strategies to overcome remyelination ***,by standardizing terminology and synthesizing data from diverse studies across different animal models,we can enhance our understanding of myelin pathology in central nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis,Alzheimer's disease,and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,all of which involve oligodendroglial and myelin dysfunction.

Cerrado soils are acidic and nutrient-poor,with high content of solubilized Al 3+.Plants growing in these conditions may display adaptations to cope with high aluminum concentrations especially during early developmental *** investigated leaf nutritional status,and photosynthetic and growth characteristics during the initial establishment of Handroanthus impetiginosus(*** Dc.)Mattos,a secondary tree species distributed in the Brazilian *** goal was to understand leaf-level traits related to diff erent aluminum *** plants were cultivated in four diff erent aluminum sulfate concentrations:0,1,2,and 4 mM Al,for 40 *** performed analyses of growth,leaf gas exchange,chloroplast pigment content,and leaf mineral *** observed a linear increase of Al leaf content as a function of Al concentration in the nutrient *** grown in 1 mM Al showed a remarkable increase of K leaf content,net photosynthesis,stomatal conductance,and transpiration,while in 4 mM Al there were reductions of N,P,and K contents,gas exchange characteristics,and *** did not have mechanisms of avoidance,compartmentalization,or resistance to high Al ***,this species showed a hormetic response,with low Al concentrations stimulating and high Al concentrations inhibiting plant responses.

Evolution of the 3.65-2.58 Ga Mairi Gneiss Complex,Brazil:Implications for growth of the continental crust in the são Francisco Craton

The composition and formation of the Earth’s primitive continental crust and mantle differentiation are key issues to understand and reconstruct the geodynamic terrestrial evolution,especially during the ***,the scarcity of exposure to these rocks,the complexity of lithological relationships,and the high degree of superimposed deformation,especially with long-lived magmatism,make it difficult to study ancient *** this complexity,exposures of the Archean Mairi Gneiss Complex basement unit in the são Francisco Craton offer important information about the evolution of south America’s primitive ***,here we present field relationships,LA-ICP-sFMs zircon U-Pb ages,and LA-ICP-MCMs Lu-Hf isotope data for the recently identified Eoarchean to Neoarchean gneisses of the Mairi *** Complex is composed of massive and banded gneisses with mafic members ranging from dioritic to tonalitic,and felsic members ranging from TTG(Tonalite-Trondhjemite-Granodiorite)to granitic *** new data point to several magmatic episodes in the formation of the Mairi Gneiss Complex:Eoarchean(ca.3.65–3.60 Ga),early Paleoarchean(ca.3.55–3.52 Ga),middle-late Paleoarchean(ca.3.49–3.33 Ga)and Neoarchean(ca.2.74–2.58 Ga),with no records of Mesoarchean ***-Hf data unveiled a progressive evolution of mantle differentiation and crustal recycling over *** the Eoarchean,rocks are probably formed by the interaction between the pre-existing crust and juvenile contribution from chondritic to weakly depleted mantle sources,whereas mantle depletion played a role in the Paleoarchean,followed by greater differentiation of the crust with thickening and recycling in the middle–late Paleoarchean.A different stage of crustal growth and recycling dominated the Neoarchean,probably owing to the thickening of the continental crust by collision,continental arc growth,and mantle differentiation.

In this work it is assessed the potential of combining conventional and incremental sheet forming processes in a same sheet of *** so-called hybrid forming approach is performed through the manufacture of a pre-forming by conventional forming,followed by incremental sheet *** main objective is analyzing strain *** pre-forming induced in the conventional forming stage will determine the strain paths,directly influencing the strains produced by the incremental *** conduct the study,in the conventional processes,strains were imposed in three different ways with distinct true *** the incremental stage,the pyramid strategy was adopted with different wall *** the experiments,the true strains and the final geometries were *** simulation was also employed for the sake of comparison and correlation with the measured *** could be observed that single-stretch pre-strain was directly proportional to the maximum incremental strains achieved,whereas samples subjected to biaxial pre-strain influenced the formability according to the degree of pre-strain ***-strain driven by the prior deep-drawing operation did not result,in this particular geometry,in increased formability.

Protein profile of leprosy patients with plantar ulcers from the Eastern Amazon region

Background:studies investigating the nutritional status of patients with leprosy and plantar ulcers are ***,the objective of this study was to describe the protein profile of leprosy patients with plantar ulcers from the Eastern Amazon ***:A case record form was created for 75 patients with leprosy(31 with plantar ulcers and 44 without plantar ulcers)with the following data:sociodemographic characteristics,clinical form of leprosy,presence or absence of plantar ulcers,and nutritional assessment using anthropometry consisting of the measurement of body mass index,arm circumference,arm muscle circumference,and triceps *** of blood albumin,transferrin,and C-reactive protein(CRP)were also *** regarding protein intake were obtained using a Food Frequency ***:Plantar ulcers occurred more frequently in male patients(67.7%),patients aged 40-49 years(mean±sD:47.3±8.0 years),and patients receiving 300 or 600 UsD(71.0%).The mean weight and height of patients were 71.6±11.4 kg and 1.62±0.1 m,*** levels of CRP were detected in 51.6%of leprosy patients with plantar ulcers and only 9.1%of patients without plantar ulcers(Pdepletion of transferrin was observed in 14.3%of patients with paucibacillary leprosy and 44.3%of patients with multibacillary leprosy(P=0.0447).Most patients had normal levels of serum albumin(74.2%with plantar ulcers and 77.3%without plantar ulcers).Conclusions:Most leprosy patients with plantar ulcers have normal levels of serum albumin and transferrin and high CRP levels,which indicates the presence of an inflammatory *** findings suggest the need to monitor patients with leprosy to prevent the occurrence of plantar ulcers and to provide adequate treatment for patients with existing plantar ulcers.

Phenological study of congeneric Myrcia species and Clethra scabra in wetland and drained habitats in a Montane Forest

Although important,phenological studies comparing congeneric species or the same species growing in different habitats are still scarce for the ***,we integrate phylogeny,ecology and biometeorology to verify whether the phenophases of congeneric species Myrcia laruotteana and Myrcia amazonica or Clethra scabra differ when their populations inhabit wetland and drained habitats and to determine what abiotic factors affect the vegetative and reproductive phenophases of these species in distinct habitat *** collected data on phenological events of 80 trees for 1 year in Itacolomi state Park,Brazil,and related them to abiotic local *** to our expectation,the phenophases of the congeneric species did not differ between habitats,but the reproductive phenophases of *** did and was greater in drained *** of *** were affected by the depth of the water table and maximum temperature in the wetland ***,precipitation,maximum temperature and relative humidity influenced Myrcia and Clethra in the drained *** differences between *** populations suggest that this species is phenotypically plastic and can present distinct phenophases depending on the habitat it *** the other hand,the congeneric Myrcia species may have similar phenophases in distinct habitats because of their shared similarities during their *** study provides a better understanding of the ecology of these species and their adaptations to different abiotic *** of this nature are important in a changing world and can inform strategies for adaptive management.
