Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN)technologies are emerging with extensive applications in several *** is a fascinating domain of WBAN for smart monitoring of a patient’s *** important factor to consider in WBAN is a node’s *** the lifetime of nodes is critical to address many issues,such as utility and *** routing protocols have addressed the energy conservation problem but considered only a few parameters,thus affecting their ***,most of the existing schemes did not consider traffic prioritization which is critical in *** this paper,an adaptive multi-cost routing protocol is proposed with a multi-objective cost function considering minimum distance from sink,temperature of sensor nodes,priority of sensed data,and maximum residual energy on sensor *** performance of the proposed protocol is compared with the existing schemes for the parameters:network lifetime,stability period,throughput,energy consumption,and path *** is evident from the obtained results that the proposed protocol improves network lifetime and stability period by 30%and 15%,respectively,as well as outperforms the existing protocols in terms of throughput,energy consumption,and path loss.

Obstacle removal in crowd evacuation is critical to safety and the evacuation system efficiency. Recently, manyresearchers proposed game theoreticmodels to avoid and remove obstacles for crowd evacuation. Game theoreticalmodels aim to study and analyze the strategic behaviors of individuals within a crowd and their interactionsduring the evacuation. Game theoretical models have some limitations in the context of crowd evacuation. Thesemodels consider a group of individuals as homogeneous objects with the same goals, involve complex mathematicalformulation, and cannot model real-world scenarios such as panic, environmental information, crowds that movedynamically, etc. The proposed work presents a game theoretic model integrating an agent-based model to removethe obstacles from exits. The proposed model considered the parameters named: (1) obstacle size, length, andwidth, (2) removal time, (3) evacuation time, (4) crowd density, (5) obstacle identification, and (6) route *** proposed work conducts various experiments considering different conditions, such as obstacle types, obstacleremoval, and several obstacles. Evaluation results show the proposed model’s effectiveness compared with existingliterature in reducing the overall evacuation time, cell selection, and obstacle removal. The study is potentially usefulfor public safety situations such as emergency evacuations during disasters and calamities.

Correlation between KCNQ1 and KCNJ11 gene polymorphisms and type 2 and posttransplant diabetes mellitus in the Asian Indian population

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and post-transplant diabetes mellitus(PTDM)share a common ***,diabetes mellitus is a complex disease,and T2DM and PTDM have different etiologies.T2DM is a metabolic disorder,characterized by persistent hyperglycemia,whereas PTDM is a condition of abnormal glucose tolerance,with variable onset after organ *** KCNQ1 and KCNJ11 gene encode potassium channels,which mediate insulin secretion from pancreatic b-cells,and KCN gene mutations are correlated with the development of ***,no studies have been carried out to establish an association between KCNQ1 and KCNJ11 gene polymorphisms and T2DM and ***,our study was aimed at the identification of the role of KCNQ1 and KCNJ11 gene polymorphisms associated with T2DM and the risk of developing PTDM in the Asian Indian *** have carried out a caseecontrol study including 250 patients with T2DM,250 control subjects,42 patients with PTDM and 98 subjects with ***-RFLP analysis was carried out following the isolation of genomic DNA from EDTA-blood *** results of the present study reveal that two single nucleotide polymorphisms(rs2283228 and rs5210,of the KCNQ1 and KCNJ11 genes,respectively)are associated with both T2DM and *** results of our study suggest a role of KCNQ1 and KCNJ11 gene variants in the increased risk of T2DM and PTDM in the Asian Indian population.

IGF2 ApaI A/G Polymorphism Evaluated in ESRD Individuals as a Biomarker to Identify Patients with New Onset Diabetes Mellitus after Renal Transplant in Asian Indians

Insulin like growth factors2 (IGF2) regulates pancreatic β-cell renewal and apoptosis, which in turn plays a role in altering insulin activity and glucose homeostasis. Polymorphisms in IGF2 gene have been associated with altered levels of IGF2. Hence, ApaI polymorphism in exon 9 of IGF2 (rs#680) gene was assessed in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) to identify individuals at risk of developing new onset diabetes mellitus (NODM) in Asian Indians. Isolated DNA was used for PCR&RFLP based genotyping of IGF2 ApaI polymorphism which was carried out in 364 individuals these included 140 patients who had undergone renal transplant, 42 of which developed new onset diabetes mellitus after renal transplant and 224 healthy control volunteers. In the present study NODM or post transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) showed a significant association with G allele and AG genotype when compared with the Non-NODM ESRD patients after transplant (OR 2.081, 95% CI = 1.191 - 3.634, p = 0.01 and OR 3.188, 95% CI = 1.498 - 6.785, p = 0.002) ESRD patients with healthy controls also showed an association with G allele and AG genotype (OR 1.512, 95% CI = 1.060 - 2.155, p = 0.02 and OR 2.235, 95% CI = 1.453 - 3.438, p = 0.0002). IGF2 could be used as a biomarker to identify individuals at high risk of developing NODM, it would be a valuable asset in selecting appropriate immunosuppressive regimens for individuals undergoing transplant. Present study shows the importance of IGF2 ApaI polymorphism in assessing the risk of NODM in ESRD individuals in Asian Indians with ESRD.

Technical efficiency of hybrid maize growers: A stochastic frontier model approach

This study investigated the effect of credit constraints and credit unconstraints on the technical efficiency of hybrid maize growers in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province(KPK) of Pakistan. The primary data were collected by a direct elicitation method from 510 maize growers of KPK Province. Stochastic frontier model techniques were used for technical efficiency analyses. The results revealed that the mean technical efficiency difference between the two groups was 10.2%. The results of technical inefficiency effect modeling demonstrated that education of the household head, family size, number of married family members, off-farm income, farming experience, tractor drill, water irrigation through a lined course, certified seed, extension services, household saving variables, and a credit size variable had positive effects on technical efficiency for both credit constrained farmers(CCFs) and credit unconstrained farmers(UCCFs). In addition, age of household head and fragmented land values had negative effects on technical efficiency for both groups. However, the interest rate had positive and negative impacts on the technical efficiency of CCFs and UCCFs, respectively. Our results have significant implications for policies related to land use, interest rate, and banking sector expansion in the rural areas of Pakistan.

Synergistic antibacterial effect of honey and Herba Ocimi Basilici against some bacterial pathogens

OBJECTIVE： To evaluate the antibacterial activity of the combination of different honey brands and methanolic fraction of Herba Ocimi Basilici using agar well diffusion assay. METHODS： The antibacterial activity was deter- mined against thirteen pathogenic bacterial clini- cal isolates including six gram negative （Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimirium, Xanthomonas campestris） and six gram positive strains （Enterococcus faecalis faecalis, Bacillus subti- lis, Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens type C, Clostridium perfringens type D, CIostridium chauvoei）. Agar well diffusion method was used while zones of inhibition were measured with verni- er scale. RESULTS： At higher concentration, all the honey brands showed good to significant activity. Thehighest activity was observed for Hamdard brand honey （27.60±0.40） against Enterococcus faecalis. CONCLUSION： These results revealed that combi- nations of plant extracts of Herba Ocimi Basilici with honey can be used for the development of potent and novel antibacterial agents.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the antimicrobial activity of commercially available honey and raw honey samples in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,Pakistan,against pathogenic bacterial ***:Well diffusion assays were performed to screen pure and diluted honey samples for antibacterial activity against six Gram-negative and six Gram-positive bacterial *** of inhibition were measured and compared with 10 mg ***:When honey samples were diluted to20%-70%,the honey samples showed no activity to mild antibacterial *** highest antibacterial activity was recorded when 90%and pure undiluted honey samples were tested and compared with a control Gentamycin disc(10 mg).CONCLUSION:Commercially processed honey and raw honey samples from north-west of Pakistan possess good antimicrobial potential.

BACKGROUND： Liver inflammation or hepatitis is a result of pluripotent interactions of cell death molecules, cytokines, chemokines and the resident immune cells collectively called as microenvironment. The interplay of these inflammatory mediators and switching of immune responses during hepatotoxic, viral, drug-induced and immune cell-mediated hepatitis decide the fate of liver pathology. The present review aimed to describe the mechanisms of liver injury, its relevance to human liver pathology and insights for the future therapeutic *** SOURCES： The data of mouse hepatic models and rele- vant human liver diseases presented in this review are system- atically collected from PubMed, ScienceDirect and the Web of Science databases published in English. RESULTS： The hepatotoxic liver injury in mice induced by the metabolites of CC14, acetaminophen or alcohol represent ne- crotic cell death with activation of cytochrome pathway, for- mation of reactive oxygen species （ROS） and mitochondrial damage. The Fas or TNF-a induced apoptotic liver injury was dependent on activation of caspases, release of cytochrome c and apoptosome formation. The ConA-hepatitis demonstrat- ed the involvement of TRAIL-dependent necrotic/necroptotic cell death with activation of RIPK1/3. The a-GalCer-induced liver injury was mediated by TNF-a. The LPS-induced hepatitis involved TNF-a, Fas/FasL, and perforin/granzyme cell death pathways. The MHV3 or Poly（I：C） induced liver injury was mediated by natural killer cells and TNF-a signaling. The necrotic ischemia-reperfusion liver injury was mediated by hypoxia, ROS, and pro-inflammatory cytokines; however, necroptotic cell death was found in partial hepatectomy. The root appears to be the most relevant organ for breeding drought stress ***, our knowledge about temporal and spatial regulation of drought-associated genes in the root remains fragmented, especially in crop plants. We performed a meta-analysis of expression divergence of essential drought-inducible genes and analyzed their association with cis-elements in model crops and major cereal crops. Our analysis of42 selected drought-inducible genes revealed that these are expressed primarily in roots,followed by shoot, leaf, and inflorescence tissues, especially in wheat. Quantitative real-time RT-PCR analysis confirmed higher expression of TaDREB2 and TaAQP7 in roots,correlated with extensive rooting and drought-stress tolerance in wheat. A promoter scan up to 2 kb upstream of the translation start site using phylogenetic footprinting revealed708 transcription factor binding sites, including drought response elements(DREs), auxin response elements(Aux REs), MYCREs/MYBREs, ABAREs, and ERD1 in 19 selected ***, these elements were organized into clusters of overlapping transcription factor binding sites known as homotypic clusters(HCTs), which modulate drought physiology in plants. Taken together, these results revealed the expression preeminence of major drought-inducible genes in the root, suggesting its crucial role in drought adaptation. The occurrence of HCTs in drought-inducible genes highlights the putative evolutionary modifications of crop plants in developing drought adaptation. We propose that these DNA motifs can be used as molecular markers for breeding drought-resilient cultivars, particularly in the cereal crops.
