Transfer learning from T1-weighted to T2-weighted Magnetic resonance sequences for brain image segmentation

Magnetic resonance(MR)imaging is a widely employed medical imaging technique that produces detailed anatomical images of the human body.The segmentation of MR im-ages plays a crucial role in medical image analysis,as it enables accurate diagnosis,treatment planning,and monitoring of various diseases and conditions.Due to the lack of sufficient medical images,it is challenging to achieve an accurate segmentation,especially with the application of deep learning networks.The aim of this work is to study transfer learning from T1-weighted(T1-w)to T2-weighted(T2-w)MR sequences to enhance bone segmentation with minimal required computation resources.With the use of an excitation-based convolutional neural networks,four transfer learning mechanisms are proposed:transfer learning without fine tuning,open fine tuning,conservative fine tuning,and hybrid transfer learning.Moreover,a multi-parametric segmentation model is proposed using T2-w MR as an intensity-based augmentation technique.The novelty of this work emerges in the hybrid transfer learning approach that overcomes the overfitting issue and preserves the features of both modalities with minimal computation time and resources.The segmentation results are evaluated using 14 clinical 3D brain MR and CT images.The results reveal that hybrid transfer learning is superior for bone segmentation in terms of performance and computation time with DSCs of 0.5393±0.0007.Although T2-w-based augmentation has no significant impact on the performance of T1-w MR segmentation,it helps in improving T2-w MR segmentation and developing a multi-sequences segmentation model.

Selective sensing and transport in bionic nanochannel based on macrocyclic host-guest chemistry

Imitating the signal transduction and transmembrane transport co ntrolled by biological channels in the cell membra ne,artificial nanochannels with a similar capability of sensing and transport are constructed as bionic nanochannels.To accomplish selective sensing and transport of biological analyte(as "guest"),the bionic nanochannels are modified with the artificial receptor(as "host"),Based on selective recognition between host and guest,bionic nanochannels translate the stimulus of the guest to electrochemical signal as sensors,and further regulate the transmission of guest as transporters.Howeve r,throughout all kinds of guests,the selective sensing and transpo rt of ions and chiral molecules is a challenging problem.And throughout all hosts of ions and chiral molecules,the macrocyclic hosts with multisite of recognition show better selectivity,such as crown ethers,cyclodextrins,calixarenes,and pillararenes.In this article,we highlight recent advances in the macrocyclic host-based nanochannels for the selective sensing and transport of ionic and chiral guests,summarize the similarities and differences of different kinds of macrocyclic host-based nanochannels,and expect the research direction and application prospect.

Novel Kernel Function With a Hyperbolic Barrier Term to Primal-dual Interior Point Algorithm for SDP Problems

In this paper,we introduce for the first time a new eligible kernel function with a hyperbolic barrier term for semidefinite programming(SDP).This add a new type of functions to the class of eligible kernel functions.We prove that the interior-point algorithm based on the new kernel function meets O(n3/4 logε/n)iterations as the worst case complexity bound for the large-update method.This coincides with the complexity bound obtained by the first kernel function with a trigonometric barrier term proposed by El Ghami et al.in2012,and improves with a factor n(1/4)the obtained iteration bound based on the classic kernel function.We present some numerical simulations which show the effectiveness of the algorithm developed in this paper.

The place of the Great Mosque of Tlemcen:the paradox between patrimonialisation and appropriation

The Great Mosque of Tlemcen is a unique case,as it is one of the few mosques dating back to the Almoravid period that is almost intact.It has evolved in a constantly changing space and now has a conjoined public square,following an occidental configuration,which is quite rare.The size of this square suggests that it could be put to use as an additional vector for the valorisation of the mosque,but the current situation is different.This added space,introduced by occidental culture,creates a dual architectural language with several other buildings that mark all the layers of evolution in the urban fabric.Apart from its religious function,this mosque used to play the role of a covered public square,a role that has eroded over time.The aim of this research is to analyse the relationship between the building and its surroundings,as well as the population’s perception of this relationship.Additionally,the research is intended to highlight changes in the perception of the Great Mosque of Tlemcen’s public square over time,depending on historical,political,and social contexts.This research relies on an approach that combines different methods,including a thorough analysis of historical,cartographic,and legislative documents.Through this approach,we were able to conduct a comparative analysis with other similar cases.Finally,field research allowed us to understand the relationship between space and society.Despite the legal recognition of the surroundings as a historical monument,this status is not widely perceived and integrated into the population’s sense of heritage space.This is reflected in private and even public actions,despite the instrumentalisation of this heritage status,with appropriations of protected space that occur outside of regulations and become part of the landscape expression of the building in its environment.

On a non-autonomous reaction-convection diffusion model to study the bacteria distribution in a river

In this paper, we propose a non-autonomous convection–reaction diffusion system (CDI) with a nonlinear reaction source function. This model refers to the quantification and the distribution of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) in a river. The main contributions of this paper are: (i) the determination of the limit set of the system by applying the semigroups theory, it is shown that it is reduced to the solutions of the associated elliptic system (CDI) e , (ii) sufficient conditions for the existence of a positive solution of (CDI) e based on the Leray–Schauder’s degree theory. Numerical simulations which support our theoretical analysis are also given.

Antihydatic and immunomodulatory effects of Punica granatum peel aqueous extract in a murine model of echinococcosis

Objective:To investigate the effect of pomegranate peel aqueous extract(PGE) on the development of secondary experimental echinococcosis and on the viability of Echinococcux granulosus protoscoleces,and the immunomodulatory properties of PGE.Methods:Swiss mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with viable protoscoleces.Then,PGE was orally administered daily during cystic echinococcosis development.Cyst development and hepatic damage were macroscopically and histologically analyzed.The production of nitric oxide and TNF-α was assessed in plasma and the hepatic expression of iNOS.TNF-α,NF-κB and CD68 was examined.Moreover,protoscoleces were cultured and treated with different concentrations of PGE.Results:It was observed that in vitro treatment of protoscoleces caused a significant decrease in viability in a PGE-dose-dependent manner.In vivo,after treatment of cystic echinococcosis infected mice with PGE,a significant decrease in nitric oxide levels(P<0.000 1)and TNF-α levels(P<0.001) was observed.This decline was strongly related to the inhibition of cyst development(rate of hydatid cyst growth inhibition=63.08%) and a decrease in CD68 expression in both the pericystic layer of hepatic hydatid cysts and liver tissue(P<0.000 1).A significant diminution of iNOS,TNF-α and NF-κB expression was also observed in liver tissue of treated mice(P<0.000 1).Conclusions:Our results indicate an antihydatic scolicidal effect and immunomodulatory properties of PGE,suggesting its potential therapeutic role against Echinococcuss granulosus infection.

Different routine laboratory tests in assessment of COVID-19: A case-control study

Objective:To identify helpful laboratory paprameters for the diagnosis and prognosis of COVID-19.Methods:An observational retrospective study was conducted to analyze the biological profile of COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the Unit of Pulmonology at Setif hospital between January and December 2021.Patients were divided into two groups:the infection group and the control group with patients admitted for other pathologies.The infected group was further divided according to the course of the disease into non-severe and severe subgroups.Clinical and laboratory parameters and outcomes of admitted patients were collected.Results:The infection group included 293 patients,of whom 237 were in the non-severe subgroup and 56 in the severe subgroup.The control group included 88 patients.The results showed higher white blood cells,neutrophils,blood glucose,urea,creatinine,transaminases,triglycerides,C-reactive protein,lactate dehydrogenase,and lower levels of lymphocyte,monocyte and platelet counts,serum sodium concentration,and albumin.According to ROC curves,urea,alanine aminotransferase,C-reactive protein,and albumin were effective diagnosis indices on admission while neutrophil,lymphocyte,monocyte,glycemia,aspartate aminotransferase,and lactate dehydrogenase were effective during follow-up.Conclusions:Some biological parameters such as neutrophil,lymphocyte,monocyte,glycemia,aspartate aminotransferase,and lactate dehydrogenase are useful for the diagnosis of COVID-19.

The Basic Helix-Loop-Helix Transcription Factor MYC1 Is Involved in the Regulation of the Flavonoid Biosynthesis Pathway in Grapevine

Previous results indicated that in grapevine （Vitis vinifera）, regulation of the flavonoid pathway genes by MYB transcription factors depends on their interaction with basic helix-loop-helix proteins （bHLHs）. The present study describes the first functional characterization of a bHLH factor from grapevine named VvMYC1. This transcription factor is phylogenetically related to Arabidopsis bHLH proteins, which participate in the control of flavonoid biosynthesis and epidermal cell fate. Transient promoter and yeast two-hybrid assays demonstrated that VvMYC1 physically interacts with MYB5a, MYB5b, MYBA1/A2, and MYBPA1 to induce promoters of flavonoid pathway genes involved in anthocyanin and/ or proanthocyanidin （PA） synthesis. Additionally, transient promoter assays revealed that VvMYC1 is involved in feedback regulation of its own expression. Transcript levels of VvMYC1 during berry development correlate with the synthesis of anthocyanins and PAs in skins and seeds of berries, suggesting that VvMYC1 is involved in the regulation of anthocyanins and PA synthesis in these organs. Likewise, transient expression of VvMYC1 and VvMYBA1 induces anthocyanin synthesis in grapevine suspension cells. These results suggest that VvMYCl is part of the transcriptional cascade controlling antho- cyanin and PA biosynthesis in grapevine.

目的:建立人血浆中替诺福韦浓度的LC-MS/MS测定法,并用于富马酸替诺福韦二吡呋酯片的药动学和生物等效性研究。方法:采用自身双交叉试验设计,20例男性健康受试者随机分成2组,分别空腹口服受试制剂或参比制剂300 mg,0～72 h间隔采集血样。以LC-MS/MS法测定血浆替诺福韦浓度,DAS2.1.1计算药动学参数。结果:建立的LC-MS/MS法在2～1 200 ng.mL-1范围内线性关系良好,最低定量限为2 ng·mL-1,批内及批间精密度RSD均小于15%。受试制剂与参比制剂的Tmax均为(0.5±0.2)h,Cmax分别为(604±207)和(573±189)ng.mL-1,t1/2分别为(17.1±2.9)和(17.4±4.0)h,AUC0～72 h分别为(2 490±604)和(2 297±499)h·ng·mL-1。结论:建立的LC-MS/MS法准确可靠,富马酸替诺福韦二吡呋酯片两种制剂生物等效。

Electrochemical Characterization of Streptavidin-HRP Immobilized on Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes for Biosensor Applications

In this work, we used gold labeled multiwall carbons nanotubes for peroxidase biosensor. The gold labeling on multiwall carbon nanotubes can be achieved with Pressure vapor Deposition (PVD) technique. The obtained carbon nanotubes can be immobilized on gold electrode with the airbrushing technique. The stability and the molecular structure of the labeled multiwall carbon nanotubes were characterized with cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy and Fourrier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy (FTIR). It shows a higher conductivity and a good stability in water interface. For streptavidin-HRP immobilization, the labeled gold nanotubes were activated over night with thiol-acid (16 carbons). An activation procedure was achieved with EDC/NHS for HRP-streptavidin immobilization. The development of biosensor for H2O2 detection was observed with the impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques. This method could be used to determine total H2O2 concentration in the range 4 μM - 160 μM. The results show that the biosensor response depends on the conductivity and the large surface-to-volume ratio attained with multiwall carbon nanotubes. The response of the developed biosensors was reproducible with higher stability.
