Effect of a synthesized anionic fluorinated surfactant on wettability alteration for chemical treatment of near-wellbore zone in carbonate gas condensate reservoirs

The pressure drop during production in the near-wellbore zone of gas condensate reservoirs causes condensate formation in this *** blockage in this area causes an additional pressure drop that weakens the effective parameters of production,such as *** rock wettability alteration to gas-wet through chemical treatment is one of the solutions to produce these condensates and eliminate condensate blockage in the *** this study,an anionic fluorinated surfactant was synthesized and used for chemical treatment and carbonate rock wettability *** synthesized surfactant was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric ***,using surface tension tests,its critical micelle concentration(CMC)was *** angle experiments on chemically treated sections with surfactant solutions and spontaneous imbibition were performed to investigate the wettability *** adsorption on porous media was calculated using ***,the surfactant foamability was investigated using a Ross-Miles foam *** to the results,the synthesized surfactant has suitable thermal stability for use in gas condensate reservoirs.A CMC of 3500 ppm was obtained for the surfactant based on the surface tension *** angle experiments show the ability of the surfactant to chemical treatment and wettability alteration of carbonate rocks to gas-wet so that at the constant concentration of CMC and at 373 K,the contact angles at treatment times of 30,60,120 and 240 min were obtained 87.94°,93.50°,99.79°and 106.03°,***,this ability varies at different surfactant concentrations and *** foamability test also shows the suitable stability of the foam generated by the surfactant,and a foam half-life time of 13 min was obtained for the surfactant at CMC.

Demographic,socioeconomic and environmental changes affecting circulation of neglected tropical diseases in Egypt

Egypt has been plagued by many neglected tropical diseases since Pharaonic *** diseases are *** transmitted helminthiasis,lymphatic *** and fascioliasis beside the epidermal parasitic skin ***,theses disease still persist as public health problem in the country by the influence of demographic,socioeconomic and environmental *** study seeks for understanding the contribution of each factor in each obstacle in neglected tropical diseases perpetuation which in turn could help the governorate in planning integrated control *** was found that poverty,unregulated urbanization and inadequate sanitation are important socioeconomic factors that have great effect on the transmission dynamics of the *** environmental factors which affect the epidemiology of these diseases in the counln are scarcity of water,construction of dams,land reclamation for agriculture beside the climate *** panic increase in the population growth rale minimizes the efforts done by the governorate to elevate the public health *** conditions also affect the transmission of epidermal parasitic skin diseases including scabies,head lice and hookworm—related cutaneous larva *** control programs and the recommendations to combat the diseases were *** present study showed that the ecological factors affecting each neglected tropical disease in Egypt are somewhat similar which makes it worthy to develop an integrated control approaches aiming at improving the leading factors of neglected tropical diseases circulation in the country.

Effect of ultrasonic irradiation on rheological properties of asphaltenic crude oils

In this work, the rheological changes of several crude oil samples exposed to ultrasonic waves for different time intervals in addition to the effect of temperature on viscosity behavior of heavy crude oils were investigated using a series of steady shear flow and oscillatory tests. The colloidal structural evolutions of flocs in oil samples were illustrated by analysis of the size distribution of flocculated asphaltene particles （confocal microscopy tests）. The rheological investigations indicate that the ultrasonic irradiation dissolved heavy components in crude oil. After ultrasonic treatment, the Kouh-e-Mond crude oil was found to be pseudoplastic. In addition, confocal microscopy confirms that there was an optimum duration for ultrasonic irradiation, at which the viscosity and flocculation rate of asphaltenic crude oils reduced to the minimum values. The optimum was found to be approximately 40 min for the Kouh-e-Mond crude oil. Experimental results illustrate that the ultrasonic irradiation could disaggregate heavy colloid components in crude oil, and breakdown of asphaltene molecules would only occur in a specific time interval of irradiation. Also according to the temperature sweep test, the oil temperature rise caused by ultrasonic irradiation was not the main reason for theological changes of the crude oil and this alteration may be due to physical and chemical phenomena induced by sonication in crude oil.

A comparative study for the performance of encased granular columns

This paper describes a three-dimensional(3D) numerical analysis of a test embankment on geotextileencased columns(GECs), in comparison with two-dimensional(2D) axisymmetric and plane strain analyses. The 3D numerical analysis was performed considering a rectangular strip under the embankment centerline. The 2D analysis was also carried out using axisymmetric unit cell and plane strain *** results indicated that the adopted 3D strip model represented well the measured deformations and pore pressure evolution during embankment construction and post-contraction *** the unit cell model, both plane strain and 3D analyses could properly determine the settlement profile along the embankment base as well as the profile of the horizontal soil deformation beneath the embankment toes. The plane strain analysis, however, was not able to compute the geotextile ring force which might be simply calculated using the axisymmetric unit cell approach. The paper also showed that, due to horizontal boundary fixities applied to the embankment borders, the unit cell model clearly underestimated the tension developed in the basal geogrid.

Blasting is a common method of breaking rock in surface *** the fragmentation with proper size is the main purpose,other undesirable effects such as flyrock are *** study is carried out to evaluate the capability of a novel kernel-based extreme learning machine algorithm,called kernel extreme learning machine(KELM),by which the flyrock distance(FRD) is ***,the other three data-driven models including local weighted linear regression(LWLR),response surface methodology(RSM) and boosted regression tree(BRT) are also developed to validate the main model.A database gathered from three quarry sites in Malaysia is employed to construct the proposed models using 73 sets of spacing,burden,stemming length and powder factor data as inputs and FRD as ***,the validity of the models is evaluated by comparing the corresponding values of some statistical metrics and validation ***,the results verify that the proposed KELM model on account of highest correlation coefficient(R) and lowest root mean square error(RMSE) is more computationally efficient,leading to better predictive capability compared to LWLR,RSM and BRT models for all data sets.

Seismic risk assessment for developing countries: Pakistan as a case study

Modern Earthquake Risk Assessment（ERA） methods usually require seismo-tectonic information for Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment（PSHA） that may not be readily available in developing countries. To bypass this drawback, this paper presents a practical event-based PSHA method that uses instrumental seismicity, available historical seismicity, as well as limited information on geology and tectonic setting. Historical seismicity is integrated with instrumental seismicity to determine the long-term hazard. The tectonic setting is included by assigning seismic source zones associated with known major faults. Monte Carlo simulations are used to generate earthquake catalogues with randomized key hazard parameters. A case study region in Pakistan is selected to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. The results indicate that the proposed method produces seismic hazard maps consistent with previous studies, thus being suitable for generating such maps in regions where limited data are available. The PSHA procedure is developed as an integral part of an ERA framework named EQRAM. The framework is also used to determine seismic risk in terms of annual losses for the study region.

Experimental Investigation on Saline Water Purification Using Reverse Osmosis by a Novus Biomimetic Membrane

A substantial amount of Earth’s water is inadequate for human consumption while local demand is outstripping traditional supplies in many world regions;thereby,brackish and seawater treatment has become a *** investigation suggested a complete design of an RO-based desalination filter with a multilayer biomimetic *** study demonstrated a comprehensive method for experimentally fabricating a proprietary biomaterial-based multilayer nano-porous *** analysis revealed that Silk Nano-Fibril(SNF)and Hydroxyapatite(HAP)extracted from Bombyx Mori silkworm cocoons may be utilized to manufacture highly methodical multilayer membranes by incorporating protein-self-assembly and ***’s aquaporin layer containing lipid-bilayers has rapid water permeability and high efficacy at eliminating salt ions and *** 4µm thick SNF/HAP membrane showed a considerable decrease in salinity,with a salt rejection of 93.33%.The proposed membrane had a saline water permeability of 6.58 LMH/bar,almost 61.09%higher than conventional TFC *** barrier and spiral-wrapped filter architecture of the membrane enable low fouling and self-cleaning *** schematic filter design and biomimetic fabrication of the SNF/HAP membrane have formulated a conceptual framework that might direct to the broad-scale,low-cost RO water purification filters,increasing the efficiency of water desalination and boosting the effectiveness of water treatment technologies to reduce potable water scarcity.

Enhanced axonal regeneration and functional recovery of the injured sciatic nerve in a rat model by lithium-loaded electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds

Increasing evidence indicates that engineered nerve grafts have great potential for the regeneration of peripheral nerve injuries(PNIs).While most studies have focused only on the topographical features of the grafts,we have considered both the biophysical and biochemical manipulations in our applied *** achieve this,we fabricated an electrospun nanofibrous scaffold(ENS)containing polylactide nanofibers loaded with lithium(Li)ions,a Wnt/β-catenin signaling *** addition,we seeded human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hADMSCs)onto this engineered scaffold to examine if their differentiation toward Schwann-like cells was *** further examined the efficacy of the scaffolds for nerve regeneration in vivo via grafting in a PNI rat *** results showed that Li-loaded ENSs gradually released Li within 11 d,at concentrations ranging from 0.02 to(3.64±0.10)mmol/L,and upregulated the expression of Wnt/β-catenin target genes(cyclinD1 and c-Myc)as well as those of Schwann cell markers(growth-associated protein 43(GAP43),S100 calcium binding protein B(S100B),glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP),and SRY-box transcription factor 10(SOX10))in differentiated *** the PNI rat model,implantation of Li-loaded ENSs with/without cells improved behavioral features such as sensory and motor functions as well as the electrophysiological characteristics of the injured *** improved function was further validated by histological analysis of sciatic nerves grafted with Li-loaded ENSs,which showed no fibrous connective tissue but enhanced organized myelinated *** potential of Li-loaded ENSs in promoting Schwann cell differentiation of hADMSCs and axonal regeneration of injured sciatic nerves suggests their potential for application in peripheral nerve tissue engineering.

Techno-economic analysis of the Li-ion batteries and reversible fuel cells as energy-storage systems used in green and energy-efficient buildings

Green buildings have become broadly adopted in commercial and residential sectors with the objective of minimizing environmental impacts through reductions in energy usage and water usage and,to a lesser extent,minimizing environmental disturbances from the building *** this paper,we develop and discuss a techno-economic model for a green commercial building that is 100%powered by a photovoltaic(PV)system in stand-alone configuration.A medium-sized office building in El Paso,TX was modelled to rely on a photovoltaic system to supply all of its electricity needs either directly from the PV system or through an energy-storage system(ESS)using Li-ion batteries(LIBs)or reversible fuel cells(RFCs).Cost results show that a 400-kW PV system can generate electricity at a cost of 2.21 cents/kWh in El Paso,TX and the average levelized cost of energy storage(LCOS)using 450-kW RFC is~31.3 cents/kWh,while this could reach as low as 25.5 cents/kWh using a small LIB *** the RFC provides the flexibility required to meet building-energy demand,LIBs may not be able to meet building needs unless the storage size is increased substantially,which in turn incurs more energy-storage cost,making LIBs less favourable from an economic *** analysis revealed that capital cost,discount rate and expected system lifetime play key roles in shaping the LCOS in both systems.
