Improvement of Surface Mechanical and Tribological Characteristics of L-PBF Processed Commercially Pure Titanium through Ultrasonic Impact Treatment

Multi-pass ultrasonic impact treatment(UIT)was applied to modify the microstructure and improve the mechanical and tribological characteristics at the near-surface region of commercially pure Ti(CP-Ti)specimens produced by the laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF)*** considerably refined the L-PBF process-related acicular martensites(α′-M)and produced a well-homogenized and dense surface microstructure,where the porosity content of 1-,3-,and 5-pass UITed samples was reduced by 43,60,and 67%,*** UITed samples showed an enhancement in their near-surface mechanical properties up to a depth of about 300μ*** nanoindentation results for the 3-pass UITed sample revealed an increase of about 53,45,and 220%in its nanohardness,H/e_(r),and H_(3)/e_(r)^(2)indices,*** stylus profilometry results showed that performing the UIT removed the L-PBF-related features/defects and offered a smooth *** roughness average(R_(a))and the skewness(R_(sk))of the 3-pass UITed sample were found to be lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 95 and 223%,*** the UIT also enhanced the material ratio,where the maximum load-bearing capacity(~100%)in as-L-PBFed(as-built)and 3-pass UITed samples was obtained at 60-and 10-µm depths,*** tribological investigations showed that applying the UIT resulted in a significant reduction of wear rate and average coefficient of friction(COF)of *** instance,under the normal pressures of 0.05 and 0.2 MPa,the wear rate and COF of the 3-pass UITed sample were lower than those of the L-PBFed sample by 65 and 58%,and 20 and 17%,respectively.

The presence ofα/αon priorβ/βgrain boundaries directly impacts the final mechanical properties of the titanium ***β/βgrain boundary variant selection of titanium alloys has been assumed to be unlikely owing to the high cooling rates in laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF).However,we hypothesize that powder characteristics such as morphology(non-spherical)and particle size(50–120μm)could affect the initial variant selection in L-PBF processed Ti-6Al-4V alloy by locally altering the cooling *** the high cooling rate found in L-PBF,results showed the presence ofβ/βgrain boundaryαlath growth inside two adjacent priorβ*** backscatter diffraction micrographs confirmed the presence ofβ/βgrain boundary variant selection,and synchrotron X-ray high-speed imaging observation revealed the role of the“shadowing effect”on the locally decreased cooling rate because of keyhole depth reduction and the consequentβ/βgrain boundaryαlath *** self-accommodation mechanism was the main variant selection driving force,and the most abundantα/αboundary variant was type 4(63.26°//[10553¯]).The dominance of Category IIαlath clusters associated with the type 4α/αboundary variant was validated using the phenomenological theory of martensite transformations and analytical calculations,from which the stress needed for theβ→αtransformation was calculated.

Thermoelectric properties of Indium doped skutterudite thick film synthesized by a facile technique of electrochemical deposition

Doped/filled skutterudites are much studied materials due to their excellent thermoelectric ***,their synthesis and preparation is *** work synthesized indium(In)doped cobalt triantimonide(CoSb_(3))skutterudite thick films using a facile electrochemical deposition technique through chronoamperometric steps for 2 *** nominal composition of In element is found in the range of 0.55e0.23 for a stoichiometric condition of In doped CoSb_(3)thick *** early crystal growth of In doped films shows instantaneous nucleation and is controlled by the charge transfer process with diffusion coefficient,D of 10^(-5)cm^(2)/*** incorporation of In into the interstitial sites of CoSb_(3)cages is evident from the lattice constant(a)expansion as observed in *** optimum Seeback coefficient(S)of the 0.5 mmol In doped CoSb_(3)thick film is89.84 mV/K at 282 K,due to an increase in the carrier concentration(n~10^(20)cm^(-3)).The negative S is due to the electron donor behaviour of the ***,high electrical conductivity,s value(14.26 kS/m)contributes to a power factor(S2s)increment of 115.11 mW/(m$K2).The result shows a promising thermoelectric property of doped skutterudite synthesized by electrochemical deposition technique.

effect of ultrasonic irradiation on rheological properties of asphaltenic crude oils

In this work, the rheological changes of several crude oil samples exposed to ultrasonic waves for different time intervals in addition to the effect of temperature on viscosity behavior of heavy crude oils were investigated using a series of steady shear flow and oscillatory tests. The colloidal structural evolutions of flocs in oil samples were illustrated by analysis of the size distribution of flocculated asphaltene particles （confocal microscopy tests）. The rheological investigations indicate that the ultrasonic irradiation dissolved heavy components in crude oil. After ultrasonic treatment, the Kouh-e-Mond crude oil was found to be pseudoplastic. In addition, confocal microscopy confirms that there was an optimum duration for ultrasonic irradiation, at which the viscosity and flocculation rate of asphaltenic crude oils reduced to the minimum values. The optimum was found to be approximately 40 min for the Kouh-e-Mond crude oil. experimental results illustrate that the ultrasonic irradiation could disaggregate heavy colloid components in crude oil, and breakdown of asphaltene molecules would only occur in a specific time interval of irradiation. Also according to the temperature sweep test, the oil temperature rise caused by ultrasonic irradiation was not the main reason for theological changes of the crude oil and this alteration may be due to physical and chemical phenomena induced by sonication in crude oil.

Outcome of patients undergoing early versus late endoscopic intervention for acute oesophageal variceal bleeding at Air Force Hospital, egypt. A population based cohort study

Background: Whether on-call gastroenterologists should perform emergency endoscopic treatment or delay endoscopy the next day has not been investigated. This study aims to investigate the effect of timing of endoscopy on patients with acute esophageal variceal bleeding. Patients and Methods: We included 167 patients with acute variceal bleeding in the gas-troenterology unit of the air force hospital, Cairo, egypt, from 15 January till 15 July 2010. endoscopy was scheduled once the patient’s hemodynamics permitted. Time from admission to endoscopy was recorded. Patients were stratified into 2 groups: early endoscopy: when done ≤ 12 hours and late endoscopy: when done > 12 hours. Patients were followed up for 42 days. Results: The study included 102 males (61.1%) and 65 females (38.9%) (mean age 54 ± 11 years). 151 patients received endoscopic treatment. early endoscopy group included 85 patients (56.3%), and the late endoscopy group included 66 patients (43.7%) (p = 0.14). early endoscopy patients were transfused a mean of 2.9 (±1.8) units of blood versus 4.3 (±0.14) units in the late endoscopy patients p = 0.001. Mean hospital stay was 7.1 (±3.3) days versus 9.3 (±4.6) days in the early and late groups respectively p: 0.001. 5-day mortality was reported in 6 (±7) cases in the early endoscopy group and 23 (±34.8) cases in the late endoscopy group p: 0.001. Conclusion: early endoscopic intervention for patients with acute variceal bleeding is associated with a more favorable outcome in terms of morbidity and mortality. On call gastroenterologists should comply with the 12-hour period rather than delaying cirrhotic patients with acute variceal bleeding to the following day.

Leaching of dissolved organic matter from seagrass leaf litter and its biogeochemical implications

Dissolved organic matter（DOM） represents a significant source of nutrients that supports the microbial-based food web in seagrass ecosystems. However, there is little information on how the various fractions of DOM from seagrass leaves contributed to the coastal biogeochemical cycles. To address this gap, we carried out a 30-day laboratory chamber experiment on tropical seagrasses Thalassia hemprichii and enhalus acoroides. After 30 days of incubation, on average 22% carbon（C）, 70% nitrogen（N） and 38% phosphorus（P） of these two species of seagrass leaf litter was released. The average leached dissolved organic carbon（DOC）, dissolved organic nitrogen（DON） and dissolved organic phosphorus（DOP） of these two species of seagrass leaf litter accounted for 55%, 95% and 65% of the total C, N and P lost, respectively. In the absence of microbes, about 75% of the total amount of DOC, monosaccharides（MCHO）, DON and DOP were quickly released via leaching from both seagrass species in the first 9 days. Subsequently, little DOM was released during the remainder of the experiment. The leaching rates of DOC, DON and DOP were approximately 110, 40 and 0.70 μmol/（g·d）. Leaching rates of DOM were attributed to the nonstructural carbohydrates and other labile organic matter within the seagrass leaf. Thalassia hemprichii leached more DOC, DOP and MCHO than e. acoroides. In contrast, e. acoroides leached higher concentrations of DON than T. hemprichii, with the overall leachate also having a higher DON： DOP ratio. These results indicate that there is an overall higher amount of DOM leachate from T. hemprichii than that of e. acoroides that is available to the seagrass ecosystem. According to the logarithmic model for DOM release and the in situ leaf litter production（the Xincun Bay, South China Sea）, the seagrass leaf litter of these two seagrass species could release approximately 4×10~3 mol/d DOC, 1.4×10~3 mol/d DON and 25 mol/d DOP into the seawater.
