Effect of Powder Particle Shape on the Properties of In Situ Ti–TiB Composite Materials Produced by Selective Laser Melting

This work studied the preparation of starting powder mixture influenced by milling time and its effect on the particle morphology （especially the shape） and, consequently, density and compression properties of in situ Ti-TiB composite materials produced by selective laser melting （SLM） technology. Starting powder composite system was prepared by mixing 95 wt% commercially pure titanium （CP-Ti） and 5 wt% titanium diboride （TiB2） powders and subsequently milled for two different times （i.e. 2 h and 4 h）. The milled powder mixtures after 2 h and 4 h show nearly spherical and irregular shape, respectively. Subsequently, the resultant Ti-5 wt% TiB2 powder mixtures were used for SLM processing. Scanning electron microscopy image of the SLM-processed Ti-TiB composite samples show needle-shape TiB phase distributed across the Ti matrix, which is the product of an in-situ chemical reaction between Ti and TiB2 during SLM. The Ti-TiB composite samples prepared from 2 h and 4 h milled Ti-TiB2 powders show different relative densities of 99.5% and 95.1%, respectively. Also, the compression properties such as ultimate strength and compression strain for the 99.5% dense composite samples is 1421 MPa and 17.8%, respectively, which are superior to those （883 MPa and 5.5%, respectively） for the 95.1% dense sample. The results indicate that once Ti and TiB2 powders are connected firmly to each other and powder mixture of nearly spherical shape is obtained, there is no additional benefit in increasing the milling time and, instead, it has a negative effect on the density （i.e. increasing porosity level） of the Ti-TiB composite materials and their mechanical properties.

Characterization of Pigeon Paramyxoviruses (Newcastle disease virus) Isolated in Kazakhstan in 2005

Isolates of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) from deceased wild and domestic pigeons in Kazakhstan were obtained from the Almaty region during 2005 and were genotypically analyzed by using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) with primers specific to the viral fusion (F) protein gene. Part of the amplified F protein DNA product (nucleotide sequence 47-422) and the deduced amino acid sequences were compared phylogenetically with those from strains previously reported in other geographic regions. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the Kazakhstanian pigeon paramyxovirus type 1 (PPMV-1) isolates belong to genotype VI or 4bii. To our knowledge, this is the first reported VI isolates that possess the sequences of 112 GKRQKR116* F117 within the F0 protein. The information is fundamental to improving the efficiency of control strategies and vaccine development for NDV.

In this paper, we explore control issues associated with integrating advanced gasoline direct injection engines with lean aftertreatment systems. Unlike the conventional port fuel injected systems where the optimization of engine operation is traditionally performed independently of their aftertreatment systems, the gasoline direct injection engine requires very close interaction between the engine and aftertreamentsystems to achieve the desired performance. In particular, the emission control requirements not only drive the steady state setpoint determination, but also dictate the dynamic operation of the engine. In this paper, we will discuss the integration of the engine/aftertreatment from the total system perspective. Recent results on modeling, control design, and optimization will be reviewed. Remaining challenges will be highlighted.

Hermann Cohen and the Philosophy of Dialogue

This article proves that the philosophy of dialogue in its various manifestations, in based on the ideas of Hermann Cohen. He researched in detail crucial for the philosophy of dialogue ideas of relations of persons(I, Thou, We) already in his works 1904 and 1919. Other authors of the philosophy of dialogue(Rosenzweig, Buber and Bakhtin) formulated their ideas later(1921-1929) and relied heavily on the works of Cohen. Cohen not only researched in detail relationships of persons, but he introduced into philosophy the idea of correlation, which underlies the understanding of the IThou relationship. Cohen also realized that the concept of correlation gives access to the actual time that cannot be comprehended within the framework of classical ontology.

In this paper,we consider an MHD-pump generating a traveling magnetic *** consists of six C-shaped inductors located one after another.A flat channel for pumping liquid metal is placed in the gap between the inductors. The cores are fed by the alternating current from the three-phase source and are connected in such a way as to provide generation of a traveling *** to the pump construction,the electrical windings in such a pump are located at a safe distance from the heated channel with liquid *** channel can be quickly removed and placed back into the pump. The paper presents the results of experimental and numerical investigations of the temperature regimes and numerical simulation of the magnetic fields in the ferromagnetic cores of the pump *** computation has been done to evaluate the electromagnetic volume forces,acting on the transporting *** pressure drop-flow rate characteristics of the pump has been obtained for a gallium *** workability of the pump has been tested in liquid magnesium.

Study of the local environment of certain ion is quite a complex problem. Due to the unique luminescent properties, Eu^3＋ ions can be used as a structural probe. In this paper, effect of doping concentration,excitation wavelength and excitation mechanism on asymmetry ratio was systematically studied using Y3Al5O12：Eu^3＋, YVO4：Eu^3＋ and Y2O3：Eu^3＋nanophosphors. The asymmetry ratio gives information about the local surrounding and environmental changes around the Eu^3＋ ions. Asymmetry ratios of YAG：Eu^3＋and YVO4：Eu^3＋ nanopowders were calculated using standard technique and the obtained average values were found to be 0.75 and 8.2, respectively. However, it is found that standard method of asymmetry ratio calculation is suitable only for samples where all Eu^3＋ ions occupy one site. The ＂multisite model＂ of asymmetry ratio calculation was developed and used for Y2O3：Eu^3＋ nanocrystalline powders. Average value of asymmetry ratio for Eu^3＋ ions occupied ＂normal＂ sites is 6.0 and for Eu^3＋ ions occupied ＂defect＂sites is 2.3.

The article considers the issues on preliminary calculation of human-powered ornithopter general performances. The model of “simple ornithopter” is introduced. Giving an example of simple ornithopter interaction with the environment, the formula of relation of ornithopter theoretically available propulsion to kinematic and physical parameters of its horizontal flight parameters is derived. The tasking is performed for the following stages of calculation and design of the human-powered ornithopter.

Solvability and Construction of a Solution to the Fredholm Integral Equation of the First Kind

The issues of solvability and construction of a solution of the Fredholm integral equation of the first kind are considered. It is done by immersing the original problem into solving an extremal problem in Hilbert space. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution are obtained. A method of constructing a solution of the Fredholm integral equation of the first kind is developed. A constructive theory of solvability and construction of a solution to a boundary value problem of a linear integrodifferential equation with a distributed delay in control, generated by the Fredholm integral equation of the first kind, has been created.

Characteristics Evaluation of Modern Bituminous Binders in Group Hydrocarbon Composition and Their Application in Construction

The article is the result of theoretical and experimental studies aimed at determining the structural groups of modern bituminous materials in order to assess the raw materials, production technology, rational directions for their use in construction, the road industry and waterproofing. Commercial oil bitumen, raw tars and heavy oil residues (semi-finished products) of oil refineries aimed at meeting large-tonnage needs have been studied. The assessment was carried out according to the group hydrocarbon composition, by liquid chromatography using model compounds. Comparative analysis showed a general trend for all studied samples of petroleum bitumen: low content of asphaltenes (from 3.9 to 23.9 wt.%), low content of resins (from 11 to 19.07 wt%), insufficient for the formation of stable structuring layers, and a significant content of aromatic hydrocarbons, including heavy aromatic compounds (more than 20 wt.%). An assumption was made about the influence of the origin and the structure obtained during the processing of asphaltenes and resins on the transition from one type of bituminous structure to another based on the lyophility of high-molecular group components. A comparative structural characteristic of heavy oil residues from gasoline and oil production is considered in comparison with bitumens of various viscosities. Recommendations are given on the technology of processing petroleum feedstock and the use of heavy oils in order to obtain a given bitumen structure for the production of rational bitumen products for construction and waterproofing.
