Findings on intraprocedural non-contrast computed tomographic imaging following hepatic artery embolization are associated with development of contrast-induced nephropathy

BACKGROUND Contrast-induced nephropathy(CIN)is a reversible form of acute kidney injury that occurs within 48-72 h of exposure to intravascular contrast *** is the third leading cause of hospital-acquired acute kidney injury and accounts for 12%of such *** factors for CIN development can be divided into patientand *** former includes pre-existing chronic renal insufficiency and diabetes *** latter includes high contrast volume and repeated exposure over 72 *** incidence of CIN is relatively low(up to 5%)in patients with intact renal ***,in patients with known chronic renal insufficiency,the incidence can reach up to 27%.AIM To examine the association between renal enhancement pattern on non-contrast enhanced computed tomographic(CT)images obtained immediately following hepatic artery embolization with development of *** Retrospective review of all patients who underwent hepatic artery embolization between 01/2010 and 01/2011(n=162)was *** without intraprocedural CT imaging(n=51),combined embolization/ablation(n=6)and those with chronic kidney disease(n=21)were *** study group comprised of 84 patients with 106 *** was defined as 25%increase above baseline serum creatinine or absolute increase≥0.5 mg/dL within 72 h ***-embolization CT was reviewed for renal enhancement patterns and presence of renal artery *** association between noncontrast CT findings and CIN development was examined by Fisher’s Exact *** CIN occurred in 11/106(10.3%)procedures(Group A,n=10).The renal enhancement pattern in patients who did not experience CIN(Group B,n=74 with 95/106 procedures)was late excretory in 93/95(98%)and early excretory(EE)in 2/95(2%).However,in Group A,there was a significantly higher rate of EE pattern(6/11,55%)compared to late excretory pattern(5/11)(Psignificantly higher percentage of patients that developed CIN had re

We study the operation of the MHD stirrer in a cylindrical channel with a liquid metal based on the results of experiments and 3D numerical *** investigations described in this paper are focused on electromagnetic and hydrodynamic *** studied the forces acting on cylinders of different height placed inside the stirrer and calculated the intensity of electromagnetic forces as a function of the value and fiequency of the feeding current. Experimental investigations of the velocity field and its oscillations in a cylindrical crucible filled with a gallium alloy were performed using ultrasonic Doppler velocimeter measurements.

Free vibration and transient response of double curved beams connected by intermediate straight beams

This paper investigates the free vibration and transient response of interconnected structures including double curved beams and intermediate straight beams,which are all constructed from functionally graded porous(FGP) materials. The strain potential and kinetic energies of each beam along with the work done by the external force are calculated. Additionally, a higher-order beam element is introduced to derive stiffness and mass matrices, along with the force vector. The curved and straight beams are discretized, and their assembled stiffness, mass matrices, and force vectors, are *** conditions at the joints are used to derive the total matrices of the entire structure. subsequently, the natural frequencies and transient response of the system are determined. The accuracy of the mathematical model and the self-developed computer program is validated through the comparison of the obtained results with those of the existing literature and commercial software ANsYs, demonstrating excellent ***, a comprehensive study is conducted to investigate the effects of various parameters on the free vibration and transient response of the considered structure.

For the first time,the mechanism of metal aluminum dissolution in NaF-scF_(3) eutectic melts and the chemical interaction between the constituents of this mixture have been thoroughly studied by a combination of differential thermal analysis(DTA),high temperature and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),and X-ray diffraction(XRD) coupled with the molecular dynamic *** formation of an insoluble Al_(3)sc alloy in molten(NaF-scF_(3))_(eut)system was proven,and the chemical mechanism of this aluminothermic Al_(3)sc alloy production was *** ex situ examinations bring to light the formation of NascF_4 and solid solution of Na_(3)(Al,sc)F_(6) in cooled *** molecular dynamics calculations of the bath allow us to construct the structural model and to predict viscosity,density and electrical conductivity of the reagent melt to help to optimize the conditions of the alloy synthesis.

A rened analytical model for reconstruction problems in diuse reectance spectroscopy

A rened analytical model of spatially resolved diffuse reectance with small source-detector separations(sDss)for the in vivo skin studies is *** to the conventional model developed by Farrell et al.,it accounts for the limited acceptance angle of the *** rened model is validated in the wide range of optical parameters by Monte Carlo simulations of skin diffuse reectance at sDss of units of *** of uniform dermis and two-layered epidermis-dermis structures are *** accuracy of the rened model compared to the conventional one is demonstrated in the separate,constraint-free reconstruction of absorption and reduced scattering spectra of uniform dermis from the Monte Carlo simulated *** the case of epidermis-dermis geometry,the recovered values of reduced scattering in dermis are overestimated and the recovered values of absorption are underestimated for both analytical ***,in the presence of a thin mismatched topical layer,only the effective attenuation coe±cient of the bottom layer can be accurately recovered using a diffusion theorybased analytical model while separate reconstruction of absorption and reduced scattering fails due to the inapplicability of the method of ***-ndings require implementation of more sophisticated models of light transfer in inhomogeneous media in the recovery algorithms.

Recent eruption of Unzen Volcano in 1991-1995 caught attention of scientists all over the world because of disastrous character of previous one in 1792. Intrusion of andesitic magma to the chamber with rhyolitic magma is proposed to be a trigger for these eruptions. T-P-X parameters of two end-member magmas have been estimated several times, but usually estimations are based on phenocrysts assemblages. New results of this research are based on mafic enclaves and groundmass. These results are significant for magma mixing and mingling theory.

High Accuracy Finite Volume Method for solving Nonlinear Aeroacoustics Problems on Unstructured Meshes

The paper presents a finite volume numerical method universally applicable for solving both linear and nonlinear aeroacoustics problems on arbitrary unstructured meshes. It is based on the vertexcentered multi-parameter scheme offering up to the 6th accuracy order achieved on the Cartesian meshes. An adaptive dissipation is added for the numerical treatment of possible discontinuities. The scheme properties are studied on a series of test cases, its efficiency is demonstrated at simulating the noise suppression in resonance-type liners.
