Genetic Relationship between Sweet Grain Sorghum and the Other Sorghum Types Cultivated in Burkina Faso Assessed with Nuclear Microsatellite Markers SSRs

In Burkina Faso, sweet grain sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is generally cultivated in association with several other types of sorghum. However, the lack of information on the genetic relationship between this sorghum and grain sorghum as well as sweet stalk sorghum hinders the efficient management of its genetic resources. Thus, 34 sorghum accessions consisting of 14-grain sorghum, 10-sweet stalk sorghum, and 10 sweet grain sorghum were evaluated using 15 nuclear microsatellites markers (SSRs) to determine their genetic relationship. Results revealed significant genetic diversity within each sorghum type and a significant index of genetic differentiation per pair of sorghum types (0.017) between sweet grain sorghum and sweet stalk sorghum. The minimum Nei distance was also high (0.12) between these two sorghum types. Sweet grain sorghum indeed showed the lowest values of theoretical heterozygosity (0.35), of observed heterozygosity (0.13). Structuring of the accessions of the three types of sorghum cultivated in two distinct groups, one of grain sorghum and sweet stalk sorghum and another consisting of accessions of grain sorghum and sweet grain sorghum was also obtained. The low differentiation observed would suggest greater genetic proximity between the three types of sorghum. The differences observed would be more of a physiological and biochemical nature. These results could contribute to better management of the genetic resources of sweet grain sorghum.

Preparation and Structural Properties of ZnAl_xFe_2-xO₄ Spinel Oxide

The ZnAlxFe2-xO4 (x = 0.0, 0.2 and 0.4) spinel ferrites were prepared by the conventional solid state reaction in air at 1350°C. The X-ray diffraction of all the three samples showed sharp Bragg peaks indicating the formation of a single phase spinel structure. The lattice parameters of the samples were determined from the X-ray diffraction data using the Nelson-Riley extrapolation method. The lattice parameters, cation distribution and oxygen position parameters have also been determined by refining the data by the Rietveld method. Rietveld refinement of the XRD data reveals all the samples to possess cubic symmetry corresponding to the space group Fd3m. Lattice parameters were found to decrease with increasing Al concentration, i.e. 8.4322, 8.4002, and 8.3984 Åfor x = 0.0, 0.2 and 0.4, respectively.

Anemia in the Elderly: Frequency and Etiologies at University Hospital Center of Point G

Introduction: Older people are exposed to particular health problems that must be taken into account, including anemia defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) in people aged 65 and over hemoglobin < 13 g/dl in men and < 12 g/dl in women. Objectives: To determine the frequency of anemia, to describe its clinical and paraclinical aspects, and to determine the etiologies. Material and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study with prospective data collection that took place in the Department of Internal Medicine of the Point G CHU in Mali from January 1st, 2018 to August 31st, 2018, covering all elderly patients. At least 65 years old hospitalized and/or having consulted and presenting with anemia. Anemia was defined as Hb < 13 g/dl in men and < 12 g/dl in women (WHO definition). Biological markers were collected at admission. Results: Anemia was observed in 42 patients in 160 elderly patients, a prevalence of 26%, the age of our patients ranged from 65 to 90 years. The sex ratio was 1.33. Fifty percent (50%) of the patients had high blood pressure as antecedents. Weight loss was found in 69% of cases;47.6% of patients had dyspnea on admission. Tachycardia was the physical sign associated with anemia present in 85.7% of them. The mean hemoglobin level was 9.2 g/dl ± 2.03: thus 50% of the subjects had microcytic and or hypochromic anemia. The etiologies found were infectious in 31.0% of cases, inflammatory in 31.0% of cases, renal in 14.2% of cases. Chronic hemorrhage, acute haemorrhage, hemolysis accounted for 2.4% each. We observed 9.5% of unexplained causes. Conclusion: The frequency of anemia is high. Nearly half of the geriatric population has anemia. The lack of means and the nonperformance of the technical platform to perform all examinations in the etiological research of anemia have a significant impact on the rate of unexplained anemias.

目的:研究在马来西亚地区幽门螺杆菌菌株对克拉霉素耐药情况与23SrRNA基因突变的关系。方法:通过E test方法测定幽门螺杆菌菌株对克拉霉素的敏感性,通过对克拉霉素耐药菌株和克拉霉素敏感菌株的23S rRNA基因V区的点突变进行分析聚合酶链反应产物的序列分析扩增。应用限制性内切酶(Mbo II,Bsa I)酶切位点检测相对应的克拉霉素耐药菌株的突变已达到对限制性片段长度多态性分析。结果:120例患者的187个菌株中,有4株对克拉霉素耐药,183株对克拉霉素敏感。该耐药菌株的MIC(最低抑菌浓度)范围从1.5到24ug/ml.两个菌株中一个是A2142G突变,另两个是A2143G突变。4个克拉霉素耐药菌株中2个被检测到T2182C突变,14个克拉霉素敏感菌株中13个被检测到T2182C突变。限制性内切酶(Bsa I、MboII)可检测到突变。结论:在马来西亚地区幽门螺杆菌菌株对克拉霉素耐药的发生比较罕见,A2142G和A2143G突变存在低水平耐药。

Summary: A malignant tumour that develops from the bronchial epithelium and then invades the lungs. It ranks third after colorectal and breast cancer. In Mali, computed tomography (CT) is the main imaging tool used at all stages of treatment. We had initiated this study with the objective of specifying the place of CT in the diagnosis of primary bronchopulmonary cancer at the hospital of Mali. Method: This is a prospective and descriptive study conducted by the Medical Imaging and Thoracic Surgery departments at Mali Hospital from March 2014 to February 2015. All the patients who have benefited from a CT scan and presenting at least one histologically confirmed bronchopulmonary tumor were included. Results: We were recruiting 60 patients with bronchopulmonary cancers out of 500 referred for a thoracic CT scan performed, a frequency of 12%. There was one male patient with a sex ratio of 4H/1F. The average age was 60 years. The history of smoking was 85%. The symptoms were dominated by general condition (63.33%), cough (25%) and haemoptysis (58.33%). CT scans were performed in all patients. The lesions were located more in the lower lobes (71%). The tumours were: heterogeneous tissue density (70%), spiculated contours (80%), and the histology was more non-small cell carcinoma. Conclusion: The incidence of bronchopulmonary cancer is very high and its prognosis is poor at an advanced stage. The evaluative role of CT and biopsy guidance has given it a place of choice in its management. The diagnosis of certainty remains histology.

Introduction: Bladder tumours are frequent, have a poor prognosis and are the second most common genitourinary tumour in men. In Mali, recent statistical data on the prevalence of bladder tumours show a progression with 6.71% in 2006. The euro scanner is used in the diagnostic workup. The work was initiated in order to specify the role of the scanner in the diagnosis of these tumors. Patients and Methods: Prospective descriptive study was carried out in the medical imaging department of Mali Hospital from February to November 2018. Were included any patient with a bladder tumour on euro scanner. The patients had benefited from a preliminary preparation and a renal biological assessment in order to eliminate renal insufficiency. Our examinations were performed with a Siemens 16-slice scanner. These were axial slices performed without, with iodine injection from the pulmonary base to the pubic bones. Results: We had collected 17 patients out of 541 scans i.e. a frequency of 3.76%. The age range of 21 to 40 years was 58.8% with an average age of 25 years. The antecedents (ATCD) found were urinary bilharzia (47%) and smoking (17%). The clinic was dominated by haematuria. It was associated with a bladder mass (52%) and dysuria (23.52%). The CT scan showed a budding appearance, a size greater than 3 cm (82%), infiltration of peri-vesical fat (47.05%), and adenopathy (94%). Associated lesions were: utero-hydronephrosis (58.82%) and metastases (bone and liver in 11.76% of cases each). Conclusion: They are frequent and the history of urinary bilharziasis remains the main risk factor in endemic countries. CT scans are essential in the management of this disease. The diagnosis of certainty remains histology.

Structural and Magnetic Properties of Cr<sup>3+ </sup>Doped Mg Ferrites

The polycrystalline MgCrxFe2-xO4 ferrites (0.0 ? x ? 1.0) were prepared by conventional solid state ceramic sintering technique in air at 1300?C. X-ray diffraction experiments were carried out on all the samples in order to characterize the materials at room temperature. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed sharp peaks indicating the formation of single phased cubic spinel structure. The lattice parameters of the samples were determined from the X-ray diffraction data using Nelson-Riley extrapolation method. It was found that the lattice parameter decreased with increasing Cr concen- tration obeying Vegard’s law. Magnetic properties of the samples were measured using an Impedance Analyzer. Real and imaginary parts of the complex permeability, loss factor and quality factor were measured as the function of frequency at three different sintering temperatures 1250?C, 1300?C and 1350?C for all the samples in the frequency range 1 kHz to 13 MHz. Frequency stability of the real part of permeability increases with increasing Cr concentration and also with sintering temperature. Imaginary part of permeability decreases with increasing frequency and increased with increasing both of the Cr content and sintering temperature. Loss factor decreased with increasing frequency while the quality factor (Q) increased with increasing frequency for all the samples. The temperature de- pendence of initial permeability was measured for all the samples sintered at 1300?C. The Curie temperature (Tc) was determined from the -T curves. The values of Tc were found to be 733 K, 657 K, 583 K, 468 K, 400 K and 317 K for x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0, respectively.

The main objective of the study was to determine the effect of gestation and postgestation periods on development and course of seizure activity. The data obtained in the study showed that i) there is a reduction of both EEG and behavioral seizures during gestation in the presence of hippocampal epileptogenic locus (kindling model);ii) suppression of audiogenic seizures occurs in gestation, and development of audiogenic kindling and decrease of seizure reactions occur in the pseudogestation state. It is assumed that in gestation period the intensification of the possible endogenous inhibitory mechanisms follows the course of seizure activity.
