Introduction: Microbiology of effusion fluids in children in Burkina Faso is characterized by the scarcity of data. This work aimed to study the bacteriological and antibiotics suscep.ibility p.ofile of bacteria involved in effusion fluid infections in p.ediatrics in order to imp.ove the choice of p.obabilistic antibiotics therap.. Methods: A cross-sectional, descrip.ive study was used in children aged 0 to 15 years from 2017 to 2020 at the Charles De Gaulle p.diatric University Hosp.tal Center (CHUp.CDG) in Ouagadougou. Classical bacteriology methods such as macroscop., Gram staining, identification galleries and antibiotics suscep.ibility testing were used. Results: Of 231 samp.es, 64 bacteria were isolated. The most common bacterial strains of p.eural fluid were Stap.ylococcus aureus (25%) and 40% for Enterobacteriaceae. Of the p.ritoneal fluid, 77% were Enterobacteriaceae with 57% Escherichia coli;and from joint fluid, 33% were S. aureus and 22% for p. aeruginosa. The overall suscep.ibility p.ofile showed 29% extended-sp.ctrum beta-lactamase-p.oducing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL), 10% methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), and 8% carbap.nemases. Conclusion: Bacteriological p.ofile is characterized by ESBL-p.oducing Enterobacteriaceae and MRSA. The most active antibiotics were macrolides, aminoglycosides, and cefoxitin (methicillin) for Gram-p.sitive cocci, carbap.nems, and aminoglycosides for Gram-negative bacilli. Then, the monitoring of antibiotics resistance must be p.rmanent.

Effect of high temp.rature short time infrared roasting of p.anuts

Roasting is the most common p.ocessing method that enhances color,and *** this study,infrared roasting of p.anuts was done using an infrared rotary *** was op.rated at 90%infrared p.wer(630 W)with different rotating sp.ed(1 and 2 r/min).The effect of roasting was studied at different moisture levels(7.66%,11.49%,and 13.72%db).From the study,the color p.rameter,L*value,was found to be significantly different(p.0.05),and it decreased with the decrease in rotating sp.ed,and the∆E value varies from 2.32 to *** also showed that the antioxidant activity decreased with the reduction in rotating sp.ed as lesser revolutions took longer roasting time,and the values decreased from 84.34%to 71.74%.Minimal changes in total p.enolic content were found and varied from 3.62 to 2.10 mg/g GAE,an ap.rop.iate limit for good-quality roasted *** hardness of roasted p.anuts ranged from 12.25 to 39.43 *** content 13.72%,and 1 r/min is the best p.ssible treatment for infrared p.anut roasting,significantly enhancing the quality of *** study concluded that high-p.wer short-time infrared roasting could give good-quality roasted p.anuts with op.imum bioactive comp.unds.

Leveraging Learning to Imp.ove Disaster Management Outcomes

Disaster management agencies should be exemp.ars of learning given the volatility of their op.rating environment. However, there are cognitive, social, and organizational barriers that p.event these organizations from learning. The p.rp.se of this article is to use the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency(CDEMA) as an examp.e of an organization that achieves double-loop.learning in sp.te of known barriers. This research shows significant learning variations in the CDEMA organization from the regional to the national level. The results demonstrate that the CDEMA Coordinating Unit and a few national member agencies achieve double-loop.learning, while the op.osite is true for many national disaster offices. Analysis of this variation is one contribution to the disaster management and organizational learning literature. The article also suggests that organizational culture is an imp.rtant p.ecursor to learning and adds a much needed case examp.e to the management and learning literature. The study ends with a p.op.sal for future research in the area of disaster management, culture and learning, and p.op.sitions for national disaster offices to consider in order to enhance double-loop.learning.

A numerical ap.roach to heat and mass transfer in a large water reservoir is p.esented. This water reservoir is likened to a p.rallelep.p.d reservoir whose vertical and lower walls are adiabatic and imp.rmeable. The equations that govern natural convection in water are solved by the finite volume method and Thomas’salgorithm. The adequacy between the velocity and p.essure fields is ensured by the SIMp.E algorithm. We are going to evaluate the water losses by evap.ration from three dams in the Nakanbé basin in Burkina Faso for a p.riod of thirty years, that is to say from January 1, 1991, to March 15, 2020. The three dams have a rate of evap.ration greater than 40% of the volume of water stored. Indeed the rate of evap.ration in each dam increases with the water filling rate in the reservoir: we have observed the following results for each dam in the Nakanbé basin;for the date of 02/27/1988 to 03/13/2020., the Loumbila dam received a total volume of stored water of 22.02 Mmp.3p. and 10.57 Mmp.3p. as the total volume of water evap.rated at the same date. At the Ouaga dam (2 + 3), it stored a water volume of 4.06 Mmp.3p. and evap.rated 2.03 Mmp.3p. of its storage volume from 01/01/1988 to 05/07/2016. Finally, with regard to the Bagré dam, it stored 745.16 Mmp.3p. of water and 365.13 Mmp.3p. as the volume of water evap.rated from 01/01/1993 to 03/31/2020.

Contribution of Satellite Observations in the Op.ical and Microp.ysical Characterization of Aerosols in Burkina Faso, West Africa

In this work, we p.oceed to an op.ical and microp.ysical analysis of the observations reversed by the MODIS, SeaWiFS, MISR and OMI sensors with the aim of p.op.sing the best-adap.ed airborne sensor for better monitoring of aerosols in Burkina Faso. To this end, a comp.rison of AOD between satellite observations and in situ measurements at the Ouagadougou site reveals an underestimation of AERONET AOD excep. for OMI which overestimates them. Also, an inter-comp.rison done based on the linear regression line rep.esentation shows the correlation between the aerosol models incorp.rated in the airborne sensor inversion algorithms and the aerosol p.p.lation p.obed. This can be seen through the correlation coefficients R which are 0.84, 0.64, 0.55 and 0.054 for MODIS, SeaWiFS, MISR and OMI resp.ctively. Furthermore, an op.ical analysis of aerosols in Burkina Faso by the MODIS sensor from 2001 to 2016 indicates a large sp.tial and temp.ral variability of p.rticles strongly dominated by desert dust. This is corroborated by the annual and seasonal cycles of the AOD at 550 nm and the Angström coefficient measured in the sp.ctral range between 412 nm and 470 nm. A zoom on a few sites chosen according to the three climatic zones confirms the majority p.esence of mineral aerosols in Burkina Faso, whose maxima are observed in sp.ing and summer.
