Objective:To evaluate factors associated with prevalence of malaria parasitaemia at first antenatal care ***:The study was conducted at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital from 1st June,2007 to 31st July,2007.A structured questionnaire was administered to a total of 545 pregnant women that were recruited in this study after obtaining informed consent and two slides of thin and thick films were prepared for each ***:Five hundred and twenty(95.4%) out of the 545 participants suffered from malaria parasitaemia,the rest 4.6%of those who had no parasitaemia had experienced symptomatic malaria before and were treated in private hospitals prior to their recruitment into the *** participants(100%) who did not have antimalarials had parasitaemia compared with 91.1%among those that had *** proportion of moderate to severe parasitaemia was also significantly higher among the ***,the difference in parasitaemia between primigravidae and multigravidae was statistically significant(P=0.000) too. Among the methods used for vector control,only insecticide treated nets(ITNS) was associated with significant reduction in the level of parasitaemia(RR=0.83).Conclusion:Malaria parasitaemia at first booking is significandy higher in primigravidae and women who have no anti-malaria treatment. The use of safe and effective antimalarial treatment along with ITNs will significandy reduce the level of parasitaemia in pregnant women.

Objective: To determine the risk of adverse maternal outcome associated with obstetric intervention in ***:All cases of macrosomic births conducted at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital,Calabar,between January 1st 1994 and December 31st 2000 were *** of treatment/intervention effect was calculated as relative risk for adverse maternal outcome,using spontaneous vaginal births as ***:Frequency of mode of delivery was as follow: vaginal births,139(60.7%);instrumental vaginal deliveries,16(7%);and abdominal deliveries,74(32.3%).Obstetric intervention occurred in 90(39.3%) ***-four(28%) cases did not book for antenatal care,with 42 cases(18.3%) requiring obstetric *** one in every two parturients(1: 2.1) in this study,requiring obstetric intervention at delivery had been interfered with at unorthodox health *** risks for postpartum haemorrhage,wound sepsis and paralytic ileus were significantly high in parturients with abdominal delivery;while in parturients with instrumental vaginal delivery relative risks were significantly high for puerperal sepsis,paralytic ileus and obstetric *** were no maternal ***:Obstetric intervention in parturients with macrosomic births was high due to labour complications;and was associated with significant risk for adverse maternal outcome,especially in parturients with unskilled interference.

Dimethyl carbonate is an eco-friendly essential chemical that can be sustainably produced from CO_(2),which is available from carbon capture activities or can even be captured from the *** rapid increase in dimethyl carbonate demand is driven by the fast growth of polycarbonates,solvent,pharmaceutical,and lithium-ion battery *** carbonate can be produced from CO_(2)through various chemical pathways,but the most convenient route reported is the indirect alcoholysis of *** research used techniques such as heat integration and reactive distillation to reduce the energy use and costs,but the use of an excess of methanol in the trans-esterification step led to an energy intensive extractive distillation required to break the dimethyl carbonate-methanol *** work shows that the production of dimethyl carbonate by indirect alcoholysis of urea can be improved by using an excess of propylene carbonate(instead of an excess of methanol),a neat feat that we showed it requires only 2.64 kW·h·kg^(-1) dimethyl carbonate in a reaction-separation-recycle process,and a reactive distillation column that effectively replaces two conventional distillation columns and the reactor for dimethyl carbonate ***,less equipment is required,the methanol-dimethyl carbonate azeotrope does not need to be recycled,and the overall savings are ***,we propose the use of a reactive distillation column in a heat integrated process to obtain high purity dimethyl carbonate(>99.8 wt-%).The energy requirement is reduced by heat integration to just 1.25 kW·h·kg^(-1) dimethyl carbonate,which is about 52%lower than the reaction-separation-recycle *** benefit from the energy savings,the dynamics and control of the process are provided for10%changes in the nominal rate of 32 ktpy dimethyl carbonate,and for uncertainties in reaction kinetics.

The development of Li-S batteries(LSBs)is hindered by the low utilization of S species and sluggish redox reaction *** metal oxides always possess high adsorption to polar S species,while conductive metal nitrides show fast electron transport and ensure fast redox reaction of S *** combination merits of metal oxides and metal nitrides in one provide an effective strategy to improve the electrochemical performance of *** this work,defect design of niobium oxynitrides highly dispersed on graphene(NbON-G)is evaluated as effective trapper and catalyst for S *** to the effective structural merits including enriched active sites,alleviated volume variation,defect modulated electronic property,and in-situ chemisorption and catalytic conversion of soluble lithium polysulfides(LiPSs),the LSBs with NbON-G modified separator show remarkably enhanced performance compared to NbN-G and Nb_(2)O_(5)-***,even at low temperature of−40°C,the LSBs with NbON-G can operate for 1,000 cycles with 0.04%capacity decay per cycle(Rate:2 C).

Sprites are brief optical emissions occurring above thunderstorms. Features of sprites and their parent thunderstorms and lightning activities have been studied by many researchers. Here, we report a single sprite recorded over a mesoscale convective system during its life cycle in Northeast China. The results show that the sprite might have been a dancing one, with a 20 km horizontal displacement from its parent cloud-to-ground flash （CG） and a 38 ms time delay; all the sprite elements occurred during the continuing current process of the parent flash. The peak current of the parent CG was the largest during the almost one-hour time window containing the sprite, and the absolute values of all the negative flashes were smaller than 100 kA during the same time period and did not produce sprite. The sprite did not occur during the time period in which the maximum area of the thunderstorm reached. The occurrence of sprite corresponded well with the decay of the thunderstorm convection, and no significant relationship between the occurrence of sprite and the increase in the 30-35 dBZ and 35-40 dBZ interval was found. The large wind gradient in the 8-12 km region of the thunderstorm may have played an important role in the sprite production.

The fast and accurate reduced-order modeling of fluidized beds is a challenging task in the field of fluid dynamics,owing to their high dimensionality and nonlinear dynamic *** this study,a nonintrusive reduced order modeling method,the reduced order model based on principal component analysis and bidirectional long short-term memory networks(PBLSTM ROM),was developed to capture complex spatio-temporal dynamics of fluidized *** combining principal component analysis and Bidirectional long-short-term memory networks,the PBLSTM ROM effectively extracted dynamic evolution information without any prior knowledge of governing equations,enabling reduced-order modeling of unsteady flow *** PBLSTM ROM was validated using the solid volume fraction and gas velocity flow fields of a fluidized bed with immersed tubes,showing superior performance over both the PLSTM and PANN ROMs in accurately capturing temporal changes in the fluidization fields,especially in the region near immersed tubes where severe fluctuations ***,the PBLSTM ROM improved the simulation speed by five orders of magnitude compared to traditional computational fluid dynamics *** findings suggest that the PBLSTM ROM presents a promising approach for analyzing the complex fluid flows in engineering practice.

By using the difference of the band structure for the TE and TM waves in the metal-dielectric photonic crystals beyond the light cone and the birefringence of the anisotropic crystal,a one-dimensional photonic system is constructed to realize the bound states in the continuum(BICs).In addition to the BICs arising from the polarization incompatibility,the Friedrich-Wintgen BICs are also achieved when the leaking TM wave is eliminated due to the destructive interference of its ordinary and extraordinary wave components in the anisotropic crystal.A modified scheme favorable for practical application is also *** scheme for BICs may help to suppress the radiation loss in the metal-dielectric photonic crystal systems.

Strong motion observations and recordings from the great Wenchuan Earthquake

The National Strong Motion Observation Network System （NSMONS） of China is briefly introduced in this paper. The NSMONS consists of permanent free-field stations, special observation arrays, mobile observatories and a network management system. During the Wenchuan Earthquake, over 1,400 components of acceleration records were obtained from 460 permanent free-field stations and three arrays for topographical effect and structural response observation in the network system from the main shock, and over 20,000 components of acceleration records from strong aftershocks occurred before August 1, 2008 were also obtained by permanent free-field stations of the NSMONS and 59 mobile instruments quickly deployed after the main shock. The strong motion recordings from the main shock and strong aftershocks are summarized in this paper. In the ground motion recordings, there are over 560 components with peak ground acceleration （PGA） over 10 Gal, the largest being 957.7 Gal. The largest PGA recorded during the aftershock exceeds 300 Gal.
