Comparisons of gene expression profiles between primary tumors and metastasis have revealed genes that are implicated in metastasis ***,gene expression studies conducted on metastasis samples from the same primary site usually do not discriminate between different secondary *** the change in the expression of number of genes is expected to be common to metastasis from the same primary but different secondary sites,herein the data that point to substantial differences are ***,the reciprocal communication between metastatic and host cells that is influencing these differences is outlined to emphasize the need for stratification of metastasis samples in gene expression studies.

Cave animals are an excellent model system for studying adaptive *** present,however,little is known about the mechanisms that enable surface colonizers to survive in the challenging environment of *** possibility is that these species have the necessary genetic background to respond with plastic changes to the pressures of underground *** gain insight into this process,we conducted a comparative study with the fish species Telestes karsticus,which occurs in a hydrological system consisting of an interconnected stream and a *** showed that *** resided year-round and spawned in Sušik cave,making it the first known cavefish in the Dinaric *** and surface populations differed in morphological and physiological characteristics,as well as in patterns of gene expression without any evidence of genetic *** test whether observed trait differences were plastic or genetic,we placed adult fish from both populations under light/dark or constant dark *** laboratory conditions erased all morphometric differences between the two morphs,suggesting phenotypic plasticity is driving the divergence of shape and size in wild *** pigmentation and increased fat deposition exhibited by cave individuals were also observed in surface fish kept in the dark in the *** study also revealed that specialized cave traits were not solely attributed to developmental plasticity,but also arose from adult responses,including ***,we conclude that *** can adapt to cave conditions,with phenotypic plasticity playing an important role in the process of cave colonization.

Two common chronic childhood diseases-celiac disease(CD)and type 1 diabetes(T1D)-result from complex pathological mechanisms where genetic susceptibility,environmental exposure,alterations in intestinal permeability and immune responses play central *** this study,we investigated whether these characteristics were universal for CD independently of T1D *** this purpose,we studied 36 children with normal small-bowel mucosa and 26 children with active CD,including 12 patients with *** samples from the small-bowel mucosa,we detected the lowest expression of tight junction protein 1(TJP1)mRnA in CD patients with T1D,indicating an increase in intestinal ***,these samples displayed the highest expression of forkhead box P3(FoxP3)mRnA,a marker for regulatory T cells,as compared with other patient *** the same time,serum levels of IgA antibodies specific for the CD-related antigens deamidated gliadin and tissue transglutaminase(tTG)were the highest in CD patients with *** contrast,no significant differences were found in IgA or IgG antibodies specific for bovine beta-lactoglobulin or Bifidobacterium adolescentis DSM 20083-derived *** were also no differences in the transamidating activity of serum autoantibodies between patients and control *** results show that patients with T1D and newly detected CD exhibit severely altered intestinal permeability,strong local immune activation and increased immunoregulatory mechanisms in the small *** study is required to determine whether these extreme changes in this CD subgroup are due to some specific environmental factors(virus infections),unknown genetic effects or autoimmune reactions to antigenic targets in intracellular tight junctions.

Bioremediation perspective of historically contaminated sediment with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

The purpose of the current study is to compare the influence of different aerobic conditions(biostimulation(BS), bioaugmentation(BA), and a combination of biostimulation and bioaugmentation(BB))on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAH) degradation and compare the degraded amount with single step XAD-4 extraction as a new tool for bioavailability assessment for chronically contaminated sediment samples obtained from territory of Autonomous Province Vojvodina of Serbia(S1, S2, and S3). A great number of papers dealing with biodegradation of PAHs in spiked sediment or soil have been published,but to the authors' knowledge, a limited number of papers studied aged, historically polluted sediment and a sum of chosen U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA) PAHs. A significant reduction(up to67%) in PAH concentration was observed, while the percentage of reduction varied depending on the sediment sample and treatment used. BS treatment successfully stimulated growth of indigenous bacteria. Further, PAH-degrading strain Sphingomonas paucimobilis F8 inoculated in BA and BB treatment survived for up to 7 weeks after it was suppressed by unfavorable conditions or native *** amounts generally showed good correlation with results obtained from XAD-4 *** obtained in the current study represent a good start for standardizing a XAD-4 extraction technique as a simplified, easier, and lower cost method for bioavailability assessment.

Wildebeest (<i>Connochaetes taurinus</i>) Population Densities and Distribution in Dry and Wet Season in the Kilimanjaro Landscape

The conservation of migratory wildlife species in the savannah habitat can be a challenge because of frequent and prolonged drought and their requirements for a large area. We investigated the performance of the wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) population in the 25,624 km2 Kilimanjaro landscape of Kenya and Tanzania, which comprises Amboseli-West Kilimanjaro-Magadi-natron after 2009 drought. We used total aerial counts to determine the spatial distribution and numbers of wildebeests during wet and dry season in 2010 and 2013. Global Positioning System and digital voice recorders were used to count wildebeests along established transects within blocks. There was an increase in the wildebeest population by 103% during the wet season and 14% during the dry season between 2010 and 2013. The seasonal variation in density occurred between the four counting blocks with natron and Magadi areas recording the highest densities. Generally, the increase in population could be attributed to the recovery of the population after the 2009 drought. The current cross border collaboration between Kenya and Tanzania in aerial surveys is an important step in the conservation of this migratory species in the landscape. This study demonstrates that detailed knowledge of density and spatial distribution of migratory species is required to plan effective conservation action.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of oxaliplatin combined with tegafur,gimeracil and oteracil potassium(SOX regimen)and vinorelbine combined with Pt(nP regimen)in the treatment of advanced triple negative breast cancer(TnBC).First of all,88 patients with advanced breast cancer were selected and divided into observation group and control group with 44 cases each by random number *** groups received conventional supportive *** this basis,SOX regimen was adopted in the observation group and nP regimen in the control group,and the efficacy,occurrence of toxic and side effects in the two groups were *** results showed that the objective effective rates and clinical benefit rates of the two groups were statistically significant(Pn addition,both groups had hand foot syndrome,diarrhea,liver function damage,decreased platelet(PLT)and other toxic side effects,but the incidence of rash,oral ulcer and pigmentation in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(Pn and nP regimen can effectively treat advanced TnBC adverse reactions,but SOX regimen was more effective.

A Sino\|French refraction\|reflection experiment was conducted in October 1998 in the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau from the Qiang Tang through the north Kunlun *** successive wide\|angle reflection traveltime curves are modeled trying to keep the minimum structure. First results obtained along this 700km transect, show the contrast of crustal structure between the three blocks crossed and the state of the crustal *** of the Kunlun suture, a change of the Moho depth appears from the Qaidam basin, 55km, to the south approaching the Kunlun range, 65km. But the main crustal characteristic is a great thickness of upper crustal material and the lack of lower crust. This implies a crustal average velocity of 6 2km/s, which is much lower than the worldwide average of 6 45km/s. Interpretations of this crustal column may consider, assuming the crust had been normal that while its upper part thickened the lower one was transported away, underthrust to the south or to depth. Alternatively the velocity in the lower crust may have been changed by metamorphism.
