Preliminary study of microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of antibacterial Ti-15Zr-xCu alloy for dental application

Ti-15 Zr-xCu(3≤x≤7,wt.%) novel antibacterial and antibiofilm alloys with competitive mechanical properties,biological responses and corrosion resistance were designed and *** heat treatment on Ti-15 Zr-7 Cu(TZC-7 A),after holding for 2 h at slightly above their beta transus temperature(BTT) ensured their tensile strength(UTS),yield strength(YS) and hardness(HRV) were improved by31.2%,20% and 12.3% respectively compared to the control without Cu,Ti-15 Zr(T-15 ZA).Although the3 wt.% Cu alloy displayed the highest elongation(26%),the TZC-7 A alloy also possessed a good *** of evenly dispersed Ti2 Cu and Zr2 Cu Cu-rich intermetallic phases formed as interwoven and alternating lamellae within the α+β matrix as a result of Cu addition,as revealed by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).These greatly contributed to their strengthening and bactericidal *** 98% antibacterial effect against *** and *** have been imparted,coupled with excellent biofilm *** polarization curves showed that the TZC-7 A alloy possessed higher corrosion resistance than commercially pure titanium,cp-Ti;contact angle test revealed enhanced hydrophilicity;while confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM) and cell counting kit(CCK-8) assays also displayed drastically lowered bacterial adhesion rate with comparatively no *** attachment on all alloys was similar but the best spread was obtained on TZC-7 A after 24 *** developed alloy has good potential as an antibacterial implant material with combination of optimized properties.

Effect of low molecular weight heparin (enoxaparin) on congenital cataract surgery

AIM: To assess the efficacy of intracameral enoxaparin (a low-molecular-weight heparin) infusion, in variable doses on postoperative inflammatory response in congenital cataract ***: It is a prospective, randomized controlled trial. Eighty eyes of 53 children with congenital cataract were enrolled in this study. Every eye had primary posterior capsulorrhexis and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation after lens aspiration. The eyes were divided into 4 equal groups. In group 1 balanced salt solution (BSS) without enoxaparin was used as an irrigation solution. Whereas in group 2, 3 and 4, 40mg, 20mg and 10mg enoxaparin in 500mL BSS was used respectively. The inflammatory response in the anterior chamber was compared among the groups with slit-lamp ***: The mean follow-up period was (17.75±3.95) months in group 1, (18.00±5.15) months in group 2, (19.20±5.47) months in group 3 and (18.65±5.16) months in group 4. Mean number of inflammatory cells in the anterior chamber in group 1 was significantly higher than that of group 2, 3, 4 (P 0.05). There were IOL precipitates in 4 eyes of group 1 and 2 eyes of group 4. IOL precipitate formation was significantly higher in group 1 than that of group 2 and 3 in which there was no IOL precipitate (P=0.048). There was IOL subluxation in only one eye of group 1, 3 and 4 while no subluxation was observed in group 2 (P>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference detected about IOL subluxation occurance in all 4 groups (P>0.05). A case study of multi-seam coal mine entry stability analysis with strength reduction method

In this paper,the advantage of using numerical models with the strength reduction method(SRM) to evaluate entry stability in complex multiple-seam conditions is demonstrated.A coal mine under variable topography from the Central Appalachian region is used as a case *** this mine,unexpected roof conditions were encountered during development below previously mined *** mapping and observation of ground conditions were used to quantify the success of entry support systems in three room-and-pillar *** model analyses were initially conducted to estimate the stresses induced by the multiple-seam mining at the locations of the affected *** SRM was used to quantify the stability factor of the supported roof of the entries at selected *** SRM-calculated stability factors were compared with observations made during the site visits,and the results demonstrate that the SRM adequately identifies the unexpected roof conditions in this complex *** is concluded that the SRM can be used to effectively evaluate the likely success of roof supports and the stability condition of entries in coal mines.

Peer-to-Peer(P2P)electricity trading is a significant research area that offers maximum fulfilment for both prosumer and *** also decreases the quantity of line loss incurred in Smart Grid(SG).But,uncertainities in demand and supply of the electricity might lead to instability in P2P market for both prosumer and *** recent times,numerous Machine Learning(ML)-enabled load predictive techniques have been developed,while most of the existing studies did not consider its implicit features,optimal parameter selection,and prediction *** order to overcome fulfill this research gap,the current research paper presents a new Multi-Objective Grasshopper Optimisation Algorithm(MOGOA)with Deep Extreme Learning Machine(DELM)-based short-term load predictive technique i.e.,MOGOA-DELM model for P2P Energy Trading(ET)in *** proposed MOGOA-DELM model involves four distinct stages of operations namely,data cleaning,Feature Selection(FS),prediction,and parameter *** addition,MOGOA-based FS technique is utilized in the selection of optimum subset of ***,DELM-based predictive model is also applied in forecasting the load *** proposed MOGOA model is also applied in FS and the selection of optimalDELM parameters to improve the predictive *** inspect the effectual outcome of the proposed MOGOA-DELM model,a series of simulations was performed using UK Smart Meter *** the experimentation procedure,the proposed model achieved the highest accuracy of 85.80%and the results established the superiority of the proposed model in predicting the testing data.

Plastic is a basic need for humans,but it has also caused big problems for the ***,the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the type of plastic and the addition of a zeolite catalyst on the oil yield from the pyrolysis of plastic *** research stages were natural zeolite activation,pyrolysis reactor settings,pyrolysis of plastic waste(PP and LDPE types),and *** results showed that the used natural zeolite had a mordenite phase and activated natural zeolite had a higher Si/Al ratio than the inactivated *** addition of a zeolite catalyst had an effect on the produced *** yields of oil from plastic waste pyrolysis with zeolite catalyst for PP and LDPE plastics were about 75.9 and 76.9 w/w,*** results of the GCMS analysis showed that the compounds of the pyrolysis oil were thought to be from the alkanes,cycloalkanes,alkenes,carboxylic acids with aromatic rings,and *** results of the GC-MS test showed that the uncatalyzed pyrolysis product consists of compounds with a range of C5-C11 carbon ***,the ranges of pyrolysis products with active zeolite catalyst were C6-C24 carbon chains.

Methoprene application and diet protein supplementation to male melon fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae, modifies female remating behavior

Methoprene （an analogue of juvenile hormone） application and feeding on a protein diet is known to enhance male melon fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae Coquillett （Diptera： Tephritidae）, mating success. In this study, we investigated the effect of these treatments on male B. cucurbitae＇s ability to inhibit female remating. While 14-d-old females were fed on protein diet, 6-d-old males were exposed to one of the following treatments：（i） topical application of methoprene and fed on a protein diet; （ii） no methoprene but fed on a protein diet; （iii） methoprene and sugar-fed only; and （iv） sugar-fed, 14-d-old males acted as controls. Treatments had no effect on a male＇s ability to depress the female remating receptivity in comparison to the control. Females mated with protein-deprived males showed higher remating receptivity than females first mated with protein-fed males. Methoprene and protein diet interaction had a positive effect on male mating success during the first and second mating of females. Significantly more females first mated with sugar-fed males remated with protein-fed males and females first mated with methoprene treated and protein-fed males were more likely to remate with similarly treated males. Females mating latency （time to start mating） was significantly shorter with protein-fed males, and mating duration was significantly longer with protein-fed males compared with protein-deprived males. These results are discussed in the context of methoprene and/or dietary protein as prerelease treatment of sterile males in area-wide control of melon fly integrating the sterile insect technique （SIT）.

Outcomes of revision external dacryocystorhinostomy and nasal intubation by bicanalicular silicone tubing under endonasal endoscopic guidance

AIM: To evaluate the long-term treatment outcomes in patients who underwent revision of external dacryocysto- rhinostomy (DCR) and nasal intubation by bicanalicular silicone tubing (BSTI) under endonasal endoscopic guidance. · METHODS: Data from 28 patients with recurrent dacryocystitis were retrospectively reviewed. Revision external DCR and bicanalicular nasal intubation by silicone tubing under endonasal endoscopic guidance was performed in 28 eyes of 28 patients. The patients were evaluated with respect to the reason of recurrence, time to recurrence, time to revision, duration of follow-up and surgical success. · RESULTS: Endoscopic endonasal examination detected an osteotomy-side obstruction by the excessive granulation tissue in 24 patients (86%), nasal septal deviation in three patients (10%) and nasal polyp in one patient (4%). Recurrence occurred after a mean duration of 5.3±3.7 months following the first operation. The mean time between the first DCR operation and the revision DCR was 11.5 ± 9.3 months. After a mean follow-up of 14.9±7.8 months, the rate of anatomic success alone was 85% (24/28); the rate of subjective success was 78% (22/28). · CONCLUSION: Revision external DCR and bicanalicular nasal intubation by silicone tubing under endonasal endoscopic guidance can be recommended in patients with recurrent dacryocystitis as a surgical approach that achieves satisfactory objective and subjective success rates.

Analysis of alternatives for using cable bolts as primary support at two low-seam coal mines

Cable bolts are sometimes used in low-seam coal mines to provide support in difficult ground *** paper describes cable bolting solutions at two low-seam coal mines in similar ground *** mines used support systems incorporating cable bolts as part of the primary support *** original cable bolt based support systems as well as two modified systems are evaluated to estimate their ability to prevent large roof falls. One of the support systems incorporated passive cable bolts,while the other used pre-tensioned cable bolts. The results and experience at the mines showed that the modified systems provided improved stability over the original support systems. The presence of the cable bolts is the most important contribution to stability against large roof falls,rather than the details of the support pattern. It was also found that a heavy steel channel can improve the safety of the system because of the ‘sling' action it provides. Additionally,the analysis showed that fully-grouted rebar bolts load much earlier than the cable bolts,and pre-tensioning of the cable bolts can result in a more uniform distribution of loading in the roof.

Physico-chemical analysis and antimicrobial potential of Apis dorsata,Apis mellifera and Ziziphus jujube honey samples from Pakistan

Objective:To evaluale physico-chemical properties and antimicrobial potential of indigenous honey samples against different reference strains including Escherichia coli ATCC *** aerogenes ATCC *** aeruginosa ATCC *** subtilis *** aureus ATCC *** typhi ATCC 14028,Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC *** niger ATCC *** oligasparus *** albicans ATCC14053 and Candida utilis ATCC ***:By using standard methods samples were evaluated for their antimicrobial properties including additive effect of starch and non—peroxidase activity,antioxidative properties(phenol contents,flavonoid contents,1,1-diphenyl-2-pierylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity).Prior to this evaluation,complete physico-chemical properties including pH,color,ash contents,protein contents,moisture contents,hydroxymethyl furfural contents,total sugar contents,reducing sugar and non-reducing sugar contents were ***:Relatively higher ash contents were found in the Siddar honey i.e.(0.5900±0.0336)%and small honey showed relatively higher protein contents i.e.(777.598±9.880) mg/*** moisture contents of tested honey samples ranged between 13.8%—16,6%,total sugar contents foam 61.672%-72.420%and non-reducing sugar contents from 1.95%—3.93%.Presences of phenolic contents indicate higher antioxidant potential of these honey *** bacteria showed clear inhibition zones in response to tested honey samples whereas fungi and yeast showed inhibition at higher concentrations of these honey *** Escherichia *** *** *** aeruginosa and Aspergillus niger,overall the small honey showed the higher activity than other honey ***:Physico-chemical analysis of honey samples confirmed good quality of honey according to the standards set by European Union Commission and Codex Alimcntarius *** of these honey samples confirms antim
