Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternativ. supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese v.nadate(Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwav. irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersiv. spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using v.ltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activ.ty of Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activ.tion energy of BOR at Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observ.d.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to Mnv.(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

High areal capacitance of Fe3O4-decorated carbon nanotubes for supercapacitor electrodes

A conceptually new approach has been dev.loped for the fabrication of magnetite(Fe3O4)-decorated carbon nanotubes(M-CNTs)for negativ. electrodes of electrochemical supercapacitors.M-CNTs were prepared by an ultrasonic-assisted chemical synthesis method,which inv.lv.d dispersion of functionalized CNTs in water,Fe3O4 formation on the CNTs surface,and particle extraction through liquid-liquid interface(PELLI).Palmitic acid was found to be an efficient new extractor for *** slurries produced after drying and redispersing M-CNTs and slurries obtained using PELLI were used for electrode *** electrodes prepared using PELLI showed superior performance due to reduced particle *** results prov.ded an insight into the influence of Fe3O4/CNTs mass ratio on the capacitance and capacitance retention at high charge-discharge rates.A capacitance of 5.82 F cm−2(145.4 F g−1)was achiev.d in Na2SO4 electrolyte using electrodes with high activ. mass of 40 mg cm−2 and ratio of activ. mass to current collector mass of *** electrochemical performance was achiev.d at low *** capacitance of the negativ. Effects of Rhodiola rosea supplementation on mental performance,physical capacity,and oxidativ. stress biomarkers in healthy men

Purpose: The objectiv. of this study was to inv.stigate the effects of chronic Rhodiola rosea(R. rosea) supplementation on mental and physical performance, as well as hormonal and oxidativ. stress ***: Twenty-six healthy male students receiv.d either R. rosea extract(600 mg/day; RR) or placebo(PL) in a randomized double-blind trial. Prior to supplementation(Term I) and following 4 weeks of supplementation(Term II), the students underwent psychomotor tests for simple and choice reaction time, included in the v.enna Test System. Also, the subjects performed v.2 peaktest. Blood samples were obtained before and after the test to measure the hormonal profile(cortisol, testosterone, and growth hormone), as well as the biomarkers of oxidativ. stress(lipid hydroperoxides, total antioxidant capacity, and superoxide dismutase) and muscle damage(creatine kinase).Results: R. rosea ingestion shortened reaction time and total response time. Moreov.r, a greater relativ. increase in the number of correct responses was observ.d in RR group as compared to the PL group. No changes in endurance exercise capacity and hormonal profile were observ.d after R. rosea ingestion. R. rosea ingestion raised plasma total antioxidant capacity. It did not, howev.r, affect other measured ***: Chronic R. rosea ingestion does not affect physical performance, but can improv. the results of some psychomotor tests(simple and choice reaction time) in young, healthy, and physically activ. men. The improv.ments in mental performance, howev.r, at least in our study,seem not to be related to changes in cortisol release or antioxidant activ.ty of R. rosea extract. Thus, the specific mechanisms responsible for these effects still need to be elucidated.

The aim of the inv.stigations was to ev.luate benefits of the directed transport system - a nanocomposite, based on cisplatin and magnetite combined with local action of constant magnetic field on the tumor, in experiments in v.v. in animals with transplantable Guerin carcinoma. Animals were div.ded into 5 groups according to the type of agent. We showed that nanocomposite in combination with static magnetic field exercises more prominent anti-tumor activ.ty than cisplatin alone. Structure and Thermoelectric Properties of Nanostructured (Bi, Sb)2Te3(Rev.ew)

The inv.stigation of the structure and thermoelectric properties of nanostructured solid solutions (Bi, Sb)2Te3 p-type has been carried out. The samples were obtained by grinding of original compositions in a planetary ball mill and by spark plasma sintering (SPS). Initial powder has an av.rage particle size of 10 - 12 nm according to transmission electron microscopy, and the size of the coherent scattering region (CSR) obtained by X-ray line broadening. During sintering at Ts = 250°C - 400°C, the grain size and CSR increased, which was associated with the processes of recrystallization. The maximum of size distribution of CSR shifts to larger sizes when Ts increases so that no broadening of X-ray lines at Ts = 400°C can take place. At higher Ts, the emergence of new nanograins is observ.d. The formation of nanograins is conditioned by reducing of quantity of the intrinsic point defects produced in the grinding of the source materials. The study of the electrical conductiv.ty and the Hall effect in a single crystal allows to estimate the mean free path of the holes-L in the single crystal Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 which at room temperature is 2 - 5 nm (it is much smaller than the dimensions of CSR in the samples). The method for ev.luation of L in polycrystalline samples is proposed. At room temperature, L is close to the mean free path in single crystals. Scattering parameter holes in SPS samples obtained from the temperature dependence of the Seebeck coefficient are within the measurement error equal to the parameter of the scattering of holes in a single crystal. The figure of merit ZT of SPS samples as a function of composition and sintering temperature has been inv.stigated. Maximum ZT, equal to 1.05 at room temperature, is obtained for the composition Bi0.4Sb1.6Te3 at Ts = 500°C and a pressure of 50 MPa. The causes of an apparent increase in thermoelectric efficiency are discussed.

Objectiv.s: Although people with amnestic mild cognitiv. impairment (aMCI) benefit from cerebrolysin treatment, some still dev.lop dementia. The aim of the current study was to identify most informativ. clinical assessment tests to predict the therapy efficacy in aMCI subjects treated with cerebrolysin. Methods: We studied patients with amnestic mild cognitiv. impairment (aMCI;n = 53) who had regular neurocognitiv. and clinical psychiatric assessments and were treated with cerebrolysin i.v. infusions 20 × 30 ml twice a year ov.r three years period. Data were analyzed using non-parametric statistics, cluster and linear discriminant analyses. Results: Combined mathematical modeling enabled to predict cognitiv. decline from aMCI to dementia in the cerebrolysin-treated patients based on their initial neurocognitiv. assessment scores. We identified a “dementia risk group” with fast cognitiv. decline (i.e. low efficacy of the treatment). Lower baseline scores in the Mattis Dementia Rating Scale Memory subtest, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), 10 word list immediate recall, and Frontal Assessment Battery tests when accompanied by higher depression score (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale) suggest poor prognosis for aMCI patients treated with cerebrolysin. Changes in scores on the MMSE, Boston naming test, Digit span forward, and Wechsler scale subtest “Categorical associations” during the treatment course are more characteristic for patients who conv.rt to dementia than their initial scores. Conclusions: aMCI subjects treated with cerebrolysin with lower baseline cognitiv. functioning and subclinical depression hav. poor prognosis in terms of conv.rting to dementia. Changes in the MMSE, Boston naming test, Digit span forward, and Wechsler scale subtest “Categorical associations” scores during the treatment course are more informativ. to identify patients who will dev.lop dementia than their initial scores.

Isothianaphthene diimide: an air-stable n-type semiconductor

Herein,we propose a new strategy to dev.lop air-stable n-type organic semiconductors with non-classical thiophene aromatic diimide deriv.tiv.s by replacing aromatic naphthalene with a heteroaromatic isothianaphthene *** designed and successfully synthesized the isothianaphthene core based diimide material,N,N′-bis(n-hexyl)isothianaphthene-2,3,6,7-tetracarboxylic acid diimide(BTDI-C6)as an n-type *** to N,N′-bis(n-hexyl)naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic acid diimide(NDI-C6),BTDI-C6 possesses a deeper LUMO energy lev.l of-4.21 ev.which is 0.32 ev.lower than that of *** molecular modelling and experimental results elucidated that organic thin film transistors(OTFTs)based on both of these materials exhibit comparable mobilities;howev.r,the threshold v.ltage of BTDI-C6 based dev.ce(+7.5 v.is significantly lower than that of NDI-C6 based counterpart(+34v..Moreov.r,the low-lying LUMO energy lev.l of BTDI-C6 ensures excellent air-stability which is further v.lidated by the dev.ce *** addition,BTDI-C6 shows high luminescence while NDI-C6 is not luminescent at all in solution,which rev.als the potential application of our newly synthesized material in n-type light-emitting transistors.
