Ferromagnetic high damping(FHA)alloys with a wide temperature range from-150℃to 300℃have unique application value in extreme *** the present work,the damping behaviors of Fe-21 Ga-xLa(x=0.12 wt.%,0.24 wt.%,0.47 wt.%,1.18 wt.%,and 2.33 wt.%La)alloys have been studied in detail,and a new phenomenological model has been *** the increase of La content,the Laves phase(LaGa_(2))in the matrix increases gradually,and the resistance opposing the domain movement increases as *** with the results of synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction,neutron diffraction,and magnetic domain observation,the resistance mainly comes from three parts:the average stress related to the lattice distortion of the matrix,the average stress related to the increasing area energy of domain walls(DWs),and the ave rage stress related to the increasing demagnetization energy induced by the Laves *** from the traditional method of reducing internal stress through annealing to improve the damping capacity,the proper internal stress barriers are necessary to Barkhausen jumps to dissipate ***,proper doping to balance resistance and mobility of DWs is a reliable way to improve damping ***,for Fe-Al and Fe-Cr based Alloys,the new model also has a good fitting *** study provides a theoretical and experimental reference for improving the functional properties of ferromagnetic alloys.

Magnesium-based materials not only exhibit desirable characteristics such as low density and high specific strength, but also possess exceptional functional properties, including high damping capacity, high thermal conductivity, high electromagnetic interference shielding capacity, flame retardancy, and dissolvability. However, achieving a balance between strength and functional properties remains a significant challenge in Mg alloys community. Typically, strength depends on the pinning effect of defects, such as solute atoms and second phases,which hinder dislocation motion. On the other hand, optimal functional properties usually necessitate relative perfect crystal structures, as the presence of solute atoms and second phases can have adverse effects on damping capacity and thermal conductivity. Balancing these conflicting requirements is difficult. The trade-off between strength and functional properties of the Mg alloys should be broken to meet the urgent need in aerospace, automotive, 3C(computers, communications, and consumer electronics) and energy industries for high performance structural-functional integrated Mg-based materials. This review summarizes recent progress in understanding the mechanisms and influencing factors for the functional properties of Mg alloys. The mechanisms underlying the trade-off between strength and functional properties of Mg alloys is discussed. The latest developed structural-functional integrated Mg alloys and their composites are summarized, including high strength Mg-based materials with high damping capacity/high thermal conductivity/strong electromagnetic shielding capability/excellent flame-resistance/high dissolution rate. The future works of developing structure-function integrated Mg-based materials are proposed.

Kaapvaal lamproites(aka orangeites)are a group of volatile-rich(H_(2)O,CO_(2)),micaceous,ultrapotassic igneous rocks that are unique to the Kaapvaal craton in southern ***,the composition of the melts that give rise to these rocks remains poorly understood due to overprinting effects of contamination by mantle and crustal material,volatile exsolution,fractional crystallisation and post-magmatic ***,this lack of reliable data on the initial composition of the Kaapvaal lamproite melts hampers our understanding of their source,petrogenesis and ascent *** is a common mineral comprising the Kaapvaal lamproites that has both xenocrystic(i.e.,mantle)and magmatic *** inclusions(melt/fluid)entrapped within olivine have been consistently demonstrated as an effective tool for gaining fundamental insights into the composition and evolution of melts that produce both kimberlites and lamproites,prior to processes,such as eruption,devolatization and syn-/post-magmatic *** this study,multiphase inclusions of both secondary and pseudosecondary origin hosted in olivine from a Kaapvaal lamproite(silvery Home,south Africa)provide novel insights into the composition of the melt(s)that initially transported olivine to the surface and then crystallised after emplacement to form the lamproite *** inclusions in our study contain daughter mineral assemblages consisting of diverse Ca-Mg carbonates,including K-,Na-,Ba-,and sr-bearing varieties,moderate K-rich silicates(phlogopite,tetraferriphlogopite),and subordinate oxides,phosphates,sulphides,sulphates,and *** on these daughter mineral assemblages,we suggest that the composition of the melt entrapped by olivine was siO_(2)-poor,Ca-Mg carbonate-rich and contained elevated concentrations of K,Na,Ba,sr,P and *** mineral and reconstructed melt compositions are in stark contrast to the mineral association of the groundmass and the bulk-rock composition

Risk Assessment of a stochastic service system

A stochastic service system of finite size M is comprised of identical service facilities,including or not a waiting queue,which simultaneously treats N customers,N∈{0,1,…,M}.Depending on the concepts of system information *** system entropy s=£(f),we promote a risk assessment *** definition,the system entropy is the uncertainty associated with the system,and the system expected loss is the risk associated with the ***,accepting the system information as loss function,we can identify risk and uncertainty,associated with the system,using the entropy as risk ***,we differ risk of the system(i.e.,risk observed by an outside observer),risk observed by an arriving customer,and risk observed by a departing customer,giving a separate expression for each ***,these risks are compared with each other,when the system has the same average number E(N)of customers seen by any *** three risk types(together with the three customer means)allow us to distinguish two systems obeying the same probability *** approach enables system operators to choose suitable values for system utilization and size,in view of the three risks *** developed procedure is applied to the information linear system,Erlang loss system,single-server queueing system with discouraged arrivals,Binomial system and Engset loss system.

Lead Induces Different Responses of Two subpopulations of Phagocytes in the Holothurian Eupentacta fraudatrix

In view of increasing lead pollution(Pb^(2+)) of coastal waters, the compensatory abilities of holothurians need to be assessed. The goal of the work is to clarify the functional and phenotypical differences between two types of phagocytes(P1 and P2) in Eupentacta fraudatrix exposed to Pb(NO_3)_2. It has been shown that 2 mg L^(-1) lead exposure for 48 h increases the number of P2 phagocytes as compared to P1 cells, does not significantly affect cell viability in both P1 and P2 phagocyte fractions, and significantly enhances chromatin condensation in P2 but not in P1 phagocytes. A lead concentration of 4 mg L^(-1) increases the number of P1 phagocytes compared to that of P2 type, and does not change cell viability and chromatin condensation in P1 phagocytes. In the P2 type, it decreases cell viability and does not influence the level of apoptosis. The protection against lead-induced apoptosis is apparently mediated by the activities of antioxidant enzymes, especially glutathione s-transferase. The differences in labeling cell surface receptors of P1 and P2 phagocytes by plant lectins also indicate the specific phenotypic properties of these cells. The results clarify the potential and GsH-dependent mechanisms of immune adaptation in holothurians that have been shortly exposed to lead at concentrations close to the maximum environmentally relevant level in coastal waters. Additionally, P1 and P2 phagocytes are first shown to have different functions and phenotypes during the response to lead, which indicates the complexity of the phagocytic system in holothurians and contributes to understanding the immunity evolution.

A model study of the effect of weather forcing on the ecology of a meromictic siberian lake

We used a Lake shira numerical model to estimate the response of the ecosystem of a saline meromictic lake to variations in weather parameters during the growing season. The sensitivity analysis of the model suggests that compared to other external(nutrient inflows) and internal(spring biomasses of food-web components) factors, weather parameters are among the most influential for both mixolimnetic(phyto-and zooplankton) and monimolimnetic(purple sulfur bacteria, sulfur reducing bacteria and hydrogen sulfide) food-web components. Calculations with different weather scenarios shows how changes in the water temperature and mixing depth af fect mixolimnetic and monimolimnetic food-web components and the depth of the oxic-anoxic interface in a meromictic lake. When weather forcing stimulates an increase in the biomass of food-web components in the mixolimnion, it produces cascading effects that lead to three results: 1) a higher content of detritus in the water column; 2) a higher content of hydrogen sulfide in the monimolimnion; 3) raising of the oxic-anoxic interface closer to the water-air surface. This cascading effect is complicated by the negative correlation between two light dependent primary producers located at diff erent depths—phytoplankton in the mixolimnion and purple sulfur bacteria at the oxic-anoxic interface. Thus, weather conditions that stimulate higher phytoplankton biomass are associated with a higher detritus content and lower biomass of purple sulfur bacteria, a higher content of hydrogen sulfide and a shallower oxic-anoxic interface. The same weather conditions(higher wind, lower cloud cover, and lower air temperature) promote a scenario of less stable thermal stratification. Thus, our calculations suggest that weather parameters during the summer season strongly control the mixing depth, water temperature and the mixolimnetic food web. The Functional Role of the Hollow Region of the Butterfly Pyrameis atalanta (L.) scale

Questions concerning the functional role of the hollow region of the butterfly Pyrameis atalanta （L.） scale are experimentally investigated. Attention was initially directed to this problem by observation of the complex microstrucmre of the butterfly scale as well as other studies indicating higher lift on butterfly wings covered with scale. The aerodynamic forces were measured for two oscillating scale models. Results indicated that the air cavity of an oscillating model of the Pyrameis atalanta （L.） scale increased the lift by a factor of 1.15 and reduced the damping coefficients by a factor of 1.38. The modification of the aerodynamic effects on the model of butterfly scale was due to an increase of the virtual air mass, which influenced the body. The hollow region of the scale increased the virtual air mass by a factor of 1.2. The virtual mass of the butterfly scale with the hollow region was represented as the sum of air mass of two imaginary geometrical figures： a circular cylinder around the scale and a right-angled parallelepiped within the hollow region. The interaction mechanism of the butterfly Pyrameis atalanta （L.） scale with a flow was described. This novel interaction mechanism explained most geometrical features of the airpermeable butterfly scale （inverted V-profile of the ridges, nozzle of the tip edge, hollow region, and openings of the upper lamina） and their arrangement.
