Ba0.85c.0.15Zr0.10Ti0.90O3(Bc.T)lead-free c.ramic. demonstrated exc.llent dielec.ric.ferroelec.ric.and piezoelec.ric.properties at the morphotropic.phase boundary(MPB).So far,to study the effec. of morphologic.l c.anges on dielec.ric.and ferroelec.ric.properties in lead-free Bc.T c.ramic.,researc.ers have mostly foc.sed on the influenc. of spheric.l grain shape *** this study,Bc.T c.ramic. with rod-like grains and aspec. ratio of about 10 were synthesized by surfac.ant-assisted solvothermal route.X-ray diffrac.ion(XRD)and selec.ed area elec.ron diffrac.ion(SAED)performed at room temperature c.nfirm the c.ystallization of pure perovskite with tetragonal *** elec.ron mic.osc.py(SEM)image showed that Bc.T c.ramic. have kept the 1D rod-like grains with an average aspec. ratio of about ***-like Bc.T c.ramic. exhibit enhanc.d dielec.ric.ferroelec.ric.εr=11,906,tanδ=0.014,Pr=6.01μc.c.^2,and Ec.2.46 kV/c.),and elec.roc.loric.properties(ΔT=0.492 K andz=0.289(K×mm)/kV at 17 kV/c.)with respec. to spheric.l Bc.T ***,rod-like Bc.T lead-free c.ramic. have good potential to be used in solid-state refrigeration tec.nology.

The tooth enamel development gene, enamelin （ENAM）, showed evidenc. of positive selec.ion during a genome-wide sc.n of human and primate DNA for signs of adaptive evolution. The c.rrent study examined the hypothesis that a single-nuc.eotide polymorphism （SNP） c.4625T （rs7671281） in the ENAM gene identified in the genome-wide sc.n is assoc.ated with a c.ange in enamel phenotype. Afric.n Americ.ns were selec.ed as the target population, as they have been reported to have a target SNP frequenc. of approximately 50%, whereas non-Afric.ns are predic.ed to have a 96% SNP frequenc.. Digital radiographs and DNA samples from 244 teeth in 133 subjec.s were analysed, and enamel thic.ness was assessed in relation to SNP status, c.ntrolling for age, sex, tooth number and c.own length. c.own length was found to inc.ease with molar number, and females were found to have thic.er enamel. Teeth with larger c.owns also had thic.er enamel, and older subjec.s had thinner enamel. Linear regression and generalized estimating equations were used to investigate the relationship between enamel thic.ness of the mandibular molars and ENAM SNP status; enamel in subjec.s with the derived allele was signific.ntly thinner （P= 0.040） when the results were c.ntrolled for sex, age, tooth number and c.own length. The derived allele demonstrated a rec.ssive effec. on the phenotype. The data indic.te that thinner dental enamel is assoc.ated with the derived ENAM genotype. This is the first direc. evidenc. of a dental gene implic.ted in human adaptive evolution as having a phenotypic.effec. on an oral struc.ure.

This paper is part of a researc. under enhanc.ment sinc. 2001, in whic. the main objec.ive is to measure small dynamic.displac.ments by analysis of L1 GPS c.rrier frequenc. with 1575.42 MHz—wavelength 19.05 c., under an adaptive method for c.llec.ing data and filtering tec.niques. This method, named Phase Residual Method (PRM) is based on the frequenc. domain analysis of the phase residuals resulted from the L1 double differenc. static.data proc.ssing of two satellites in almost orthogonal elevation angle. In this work it is proposed to obtain the phase residuals direc.ly from the raw phase observable c.llec.ed in a short baseline during a limited time span, in lieu of obtaining the residual data file from regular GPS proc.ssing programs. In order to improve the ability to detec. millimetric.displac.ments, two filtering tec.niques are introduc.d. The first one is the autoc.rrelation that reduc.s the phase noise with random time behavior. The other one is the running mean to separate low frequenc. from the high frequenc. phase sourc.s. Two trials are presented to verify the proposed method and filtering tec.niques applied. One simulates a 2.5 millimeter vertic.l GPS antenna displac.ment and the sec.nd using the data c.llec.ed during a bridge dynamic.load test. The results show a good c.nsistenc. to detec. millimetric.osc.llations from L1 frequenc. and filtering tec.niques.

The surfac. c.ntamination layer on mirrors c.n c.use signific.nt degradation of the optic.l performanc., whic. is widely observed in applic.tions, partic.larly in the fabric.tion of X-ray foc.sing telesc.pes. In this paper, we study the natural c.ntamination layer arising from adsorption prec.pitation of hydroc.rbons or other organic.and water molec.les in the absenc. of any external fac.or. Temporal evolution of the layer formed on super-smooth fused silic., borosilic.te glass, and silic.n substrates is studied by X-ray reflec.ometry, atomic.forc. mic.osc.py, and transmission elec.ron mic.osc.py for a one-year period after surfac. c.eaning. The general c.arac.eristic. of adhesion layer growth are established and disc.ssed. The rec.nstruc.ed dielec.ric.c.nstant profiles demonstrate that an inc.ease in the adhesion layer thic.ness, deposited mass and density over time obeys power laws with extremely small exponents. Therefore, the adhesion layer growth is rapid immediately after surfac. c.eaning, with a - 1 nm thic. layer formed within the first day on all three substrates studied, while the layer density is low （- 1 g/c.^3）. The layer growth on the fused silic. and silic.n substrates bec.me very slow in the suc.eeding days, with only a 1.4-1.5 nm thic. layer and 1.2-1.3 g/c.^3 density after one year of storage in air. At the same time, the adhesion layer growth on the glass substrate showed unexpec.ed ac.eleration about two months after c.eaning, so that the layer thic.ness reac.ed - 2.2 nm after one year of storage. The reason for this effec., whic. is c.nnec.ed with leac.ing of the glass, is disc.ssed briefly.

Writing at the nanosc.le using the desorption of oxygen adatoms from the oxygen-ric. MoO2＋x/Mo（110） surfac. is demonstrated by sc.nning tunnelling mic.osc.py （STM）. High-temperature oxidation of the Mo（110） surfac. results in a strained, bulk-like MOO2（010） ultra-thin film with an O-Mo-O trilayer struc.ure. Due to the lattic. mismatc. between the Mo（110） and the MOO2（010）, the latter c.nsists of well-ordered molybdenum oxide nanorows separated by 2.5 nm. The MoO2（010）/Mo（110） struc.ure is c.nfirmed by STM data and density func.ional theory c.lc.lations. Further oxidation results in the oxygen-ric. MoOa^x/Mo（110） surfac., whic. exhibits perfec.ly aligned double rows of oxygen adatoms, imaged by STM as bright protrusions. These adatoms c.n be removed from the surfac. by sc.nning （or pulsing） at positive sample biases greater than 1.5 V. Tip movement along the surfac. c.n be used for c.ntrolled lithography （or writing） at the nanosc.le, with a minimum feature size of just 3 nm. By moving the STM tip in a predetermined fashion, information c.n be written and read by applying spec.fic.biases between the surfac. and the tip.

Resistanc. of NS to the HNO3 c.n be ac.ieved by c.oosing the optimal c.nc.ntration and modific.tions of NS’s surfac.. Ac.ording to elec.ron mic.osc.py and X-ray diffrac.ion, the struc.ure of c.mposite c.n be c.anged due to appearanc. of ordered struc.ural zones.

Arc.ic.region is experienc.ng strong warming and related c.anges in the state of sea ic., permafrost, tundra, marine environment and terrestrial ec.systems. These c.anges are found in any c.imatologic.l data set c.mprising the Arc.ic.region. This study c.mpares the temperature trends in several surfac., satellite and reanalysis data sets. We demonstrate large differenc.s in the 1979-2002 temperature trends. Data sets disagree on the magnitude of the trends as well as on their seasonal, zonal and vertic.l pattern. It was found that the surfac. temperature trends are stronger than the trends in the tropospheric.temperature for eac. latitude band north of 50?N for eac. month exc.pt for the months during the ic.-melting season. These results emphasize that the c.nc.usions of c.imate studies drawn on the basis of a single data set analysis should be treated with c.ution as they may be affec.ed by the artific.al biases in data.
