As silicon photonics transitions from research to commercial deployment,packaging solutions that efficiently couple light into highly compact and functional sub-micrometer silicon waveguides are imperative but remain challenging.The 220 nm silicon-on-insulator(SOI)platform,poised to enable large-scale integration,is the most widely adopted by foundries,resulting in established fabrication processes and extensive photonic component libraries.The development of a highly efficient,scalable,and broadband coupling scheme for this platform is therefore of paramount importance.Leveraging two-photon polymerization(TPP)and a deterministic free-form micro-optics design methodology based on the Fermat’s principle,this work demonstrates an ultraefficient and broadband 3-D coupler interface between standard SMF-28 single-mode fibers and silicon waveguides on the 220 nm SOI platform.The coupler achieves a low coupling loss of 0.8 dB for the fundamental TE mode,along with 1 dB bandwidth exceeding 180 nm.The broadband operation enables diverse bandwidthdriven applications ranging from communications to spectroscopy.Furthermore,the 3-D free-form coupler also enables large tolerance to fiber misalignments and manufacturing variability,thereby relaxing packaging requirements toward cost reduction capitalizing on standard electronic packaging process flows.

Objective: This study aims to systematically examine the existing evidence regarding the clinical benefits of carbocysteine as an adjunctive treatment in acute bronchopulmonary and otorhinological processes. Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis. Data sources: An electronic search was conducted across PubMed, Cochrane Library, clinicaltrials.gov, and the European Clinical Trial Register, with the search dated to May 2023. Bibliographic references from other literature reviews and meta-analyses were also reviewed. The search was limited to randomized clinical trials published in any language and year. It was completed by cross-checking the references of the located articles. Methods: Inclusion criteria covered studies assessing systemic or inhaled carbocysteine, regardless of dosing regimen. Concomitant medication use was acceptable if balanced between intervention and control groups. Authors independently extracted data, resolving disagreements through consensus. Methodological quality assessment relied on critical reading of each study. Dichotomous variables were analyzed using odds ratio (OR), and a final effect size was calculated. Statistical significance was established when confidence intervals did not cross the neutral value. Heterogeneity was assessed via the X2 test and I2 index. Results: Out of 318 initially identified studies, 4 met inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis for poor general condition yielded an OR of 0.45 in favor of intervention, p = 0.013, with non-significant heterogeneity. Cough events showed a percentage of 15.8% for carbocysteine vs. 27.2% for placebo. On the seventh day, expectoration rates were 18.37% for carbocysteinevs 33.3% for placebo. Conclusions: The observed clinical benefits align with carbocysteine’s mucoactive and muco-regulatory properties, complemented by anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions. In block ciphers,the nonlinear components,also known as sub-stitution boxes(S-boxes),are used with the purpose of inducing confusion in cryptosystems.For the last decade,most of the work on designing S-boxes over the points of elliptic curves has been published.The main purpose of these studies is to hide data and improve the security levels of crypto algorithms.In this work,we design pair of nonlinear components of a block cipher over the residue class of Gaussian integers(GI).The fascinating features of this structure provide S-boxes pair at a time by fixing three parameters.But the prime field dependent on the Elliptic curve(EC)provides one S-box at a time by fixing three parameters a,b,and p.The newly designed pair of S-boxes are assessed by various tests like nonlinearity,bit independence criterion,strict avalanche criterion,linear approximation probability,and differential approximation probability.

Extremal Coalitions for Influence Games Through Swarm Intelligence-Based Methods

An influence game is a simple game represented over an influence graph(i.e.,a labeled,weighted graph)on which the influence spread phenomenon is exerted.Influence games allow applying different properties and parameters coming from cooperative game theory to the contexts of social network analysis,decision-systems,voting systems,and collective behavior.The exact calculation of several of these properties and parameters is computationally hard,even for a small number of players.Two examples of these parameters are the length and the width of a game.The length of a game is the size of its smaller winning coalition,while the width of a game is the size of its larger losing coalition.Both parameters are relevant to know the levels of difficulty in reaching agreements in collective decision-making systems.Despite the above,new bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithms have recently been developed to solve the NP-hard influence maximization problem in an efficient and approximate way,being able to find small winning coalitions that maximize the influence spread within an influence graph.In this article,we apply some variations of this solution to find extreme winning and losing coalitions,and thus efficient approximate solutions for the length and the width of influence games.As a case study,we consider two real social networks,one formed by the 58 members of the European Union Council under nice voting rules,and the other formed by the 705 members of the European Parliament,connected by political affinity.Results are promising and show that it is feasible to generate approximate solutions for the length and width parameters of influence games,in reduced solving time.

We propose an effective stopping criterion for higher-order fast sweeping schemes for static Hamilton-Jacobi equations based on ratios of three consecutive iterations. To design the new stopping criterion we analyze the convergence of the first-order Lax-Friedrichs sweeping scheme by using the theory of nonlinear iteration. In addition, we propose a fifth-order Weighted PowerENO sweeping scheme for static Hamilton-Jacobi equations with convex Hamiltonians and present numerical examples that validate the effectiveness of the new stopping criterion.

Two nanostructured A1-Cu-Fe alloys, A164Cu24Fe12 and A162.5Cu25.2Fe12.3, have been studied. Icosahedral quasicrystalline （ψ） A164CH24FeI2 and crystalline cubic （ β） AI62.sCu25.2Fe12.3 cylindrical ingots were first produced using normal casting techniques. High-energy mechanical milling was then conducted to obtain β icosahedral and β intermetallic nanostructured powders. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, linear polarization resistance, and potentiodynamic polarization were used to investigate the electrochemical corrosion characteristics of the powders in solutions with different pH values. Current density （icorr）, polarization resistance （Rp）, and impedance modulus （121） were determined. The results showed that regardless of pH value, increasing the solution temperature enhanced the corrosion resistance of the both phases. However, the electrochemical behavior of the phase indicated that its stability depends on the submerged exposure time in neutral and alkaline environments. This behavior was related to the type of corrosion products present on the surfaces of the particles along with the diffusion and charge-transfer mechanisms of the corrosion process.

The volume change and shear strength behaviour of tailings slurry with the changes in gravimetric moisture content is important to effectively utilise the storage volume and analysis of dam failure potential.Consolidation testing of tailings from a slurry-like to soil-like state is a critical task,and conventional consolidation apparatus does not have the capability of doing such testing,as the tailings slurries contain high water content.Settling tests conducted on slurries having a 25%solids concentration showed very low efficiency;final sediment was still slurry-like.An intrinsic point was identified based on pore water pressure dissipation during consolidation tests in a slurry consolidometer that can define two states of the tailings i.***.slurry-like and soil-like.In the slurry-like state,the volume change was greater for Slurry 2 than Slurry 1,while the inverse was observed in the soil-like state.The evolution of peak vane shear strength with the changes in moisture content was almost similar for both samples and obeyed the power function.Regression models have been developed and validated to predict the shear strength of materials at any gravimetric moisture content or void ratio.

Loco-regional recurrences and distant metastases represent the main cause of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC) mortality. The overexpression of chemokine receptor 4(CXCR4) in HNSCC primary tumors associates with higher risk of developing loco-regional recurrences and distant metastases, thus making CXCR4 an ideal entry pathway for targeted drug delivery. In this context, our group has generated the self-assembling protein nanocarrier T22-GFP-H6, displaying multiple T22 peptidic ligands that specifically target CXCR4. This study aimed to validate T22-GFP-H6 as a suitable nanocarrier to selectively deliver cytotoxic agents to CXCR4^(+)tumors in a HNSCC model. Here we demonstrate that T22-GFP-H6 selectively internalizes in CXCR4^(+)HNSCC cells, achieving a high accumulation in CXCR4^(+)tumors in vivo, while showing negligible nanocarrier distribution in non-tumor bearing organs. Moreover, this T22-empowered nanocarrier can incorporate bacterial toxin domains to generate therapeutic nanotoxins that induce cell death in CXCR4-overexpressing tumors in the absence of histological alterations in normal organs. Altogether, these results show the potential use of this T22-empowered nanocarrier platform to incorporate polypeptidic domains of choice to selectively eliminate CXCR4^(+)cells in HNSCC. Remarkably, to our knowledge, this is the first study testing targeted proteinonly nanoparticles in this cancer type, which may represent a novel treatment approach for HNSCC patients.

Electrical trees are defects originated and driven by partial discharges(PD)activity and this is the reason why their modelling and simulation are fundamental for the ageing mechanisms comprehension and diagnosis analyses of insulation systems compound by solid dielectrics.This study presents a brief review of the different models implemented to simulate PD in electrical trees inside solid dielectrics.In addition,an improved deterministic model as well as a stochastic model are presented,which allow predicting adequately the PD pulses distribution,in magnitudes and phase,for non‐conducting electrical trees of different shape and length.Two case studies were simulated and their results exhibit good agreement when compared with measurements presented in the literature.It is concluded that the main parameters that state the PD behaviour in trees are the inception and extinction voltage mag-nitudes,including their probability distributions,and the tree geometry.The models can be used for prognosis analysis based on on‐line measurements.
