Bioactive glasses(BGs)are promising bone substitute ***,under certain circumstances BGs such as the well-known 45S5 Bioglass®(composition in wt%:45.0 Sio2,24.5 Na2O,24.5 CaO,6.0 P2O5)act cytotoxic due to a strong increase in pH caused by a burst release of sodium ions.A potential alternative is a sodiumreduced fluoride-containing BG belonging to the CaO–MgO–Sio2 system,namely BG1d-BG(composition in wt%:46.1 Sio2,28.7 CaO,8.8 MgO,6.2 P2O5,5.7 CaF2,4.5 Na2O),that has already been evaluated in-vitro,in-vivo and in preliminary clinical *** further application,however,BG1d-BG should be compared to the benchmark amongst BGs,the 45S5 Bioglass®composition,to classify its effect on cell viability,proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs).Therefore,in this study,the biocompatibility and osteogenic potential of both BGs were investigated in an indirect and direct culture setting to assess the effect of the ionic dissolution products and the BGs’physical presence on the *** results indicated an advantage of BG1d-BG over 45S5 Bioglass®regarding cell viability and *** BGs induced an earlier onset of osteogenic differentiation and accelerated the expression of late osteoblast marker genes compared to the control *** conclusion,BG1d-BG is an attractive candidate for further experimental *** basic mechanisms behind the different impact on cell behavior should be assessed in further detail,*** further alteration of the BG compositions.

Sexual assaults in therapeutic relationships: prevalence, risk factors and consequences

A law has been passed in Germany (paragraph 174c StGB), which prohibits therapists from having sexual contact with their patients. This provides the background for a follow-up survey to the previous study completed by becker- Fischer and Fischer in 1995. The results of this survey are discussed here on the basis of the current status of research concerning preva- lence and risk factors of sexual assaults in therapeutic relationships. The focus of the re- search lies in determining the specific condi- tions of sexual assaults in psychotherapy and psychiatry, risk variables of the therapists and patients, the effects it has on the patients as well as the legal consequences it results in. To en- sure the comparability of the data, an online version of the Questionnaire about Sexual Con- tacts in Psychotherapy and Psychiatry (SKPP;becker-Fischer, Fischer & Jerouschek) was cre- ated and a survey of N = 77 affected patients was conducted. The majority of the participants in the study reported a serious decline in their overall well being following the incident. How- ever only very few undertook legal steps - only in three cases did it come to a legal procedure. The assumption that sexual contacts in psy- chotherapy result in extremely damaging con- sequences to patients, was affirmed. Despite the changed legal situation, therapists in Ger- many are still not held legally responsible more often than they were 10 years ago. Based on these results a more intensive education of the patients concerning their legal rights is recom- mended.

Management Options and Soil Types Differentially Affect Weeds in Maize Fields of Kakamega, Western Kenya

Maize production in Kenya is constrained by weed infestation and nutrient deficiencies. Field studies were conducted during the 2008/2009 cropping seasons to investigate weeds in maize fields on three dominant soil types in Western Kenya. Weeds were inventoried and their composition was compared using Jaccard＇s index. The economic importance of weed species （potential to reduce yields and the difficulty to control them by manual weeding） was assessed through participatory surveys. Finally, field trials assessed the effects of management options （farmer＇s practice, clean weeding, green manure, zero-tillage ＋ cover crop and zero-tillage） on weed biomass and species composition. Across the three soil types, 55 weed species in 21 families were identified. Soil types influenced species composition as confirmed by Jaccard＇s similarity indices of 0.50, 0.58 and 0.62 for Nitisol vs. Acrisol, Ferralsol vs. Acrisol and Nitisol vs. Ferralsol, respectively. The economically important weeds were Commelina benghalensis, Cynodon nlemfuensis, Bidens pilosa, Galinsoga parviflora and Leonotis nepetifolia. Management options significantly （P 〈 0.05） reduced weed biomass, irrespective of soil type and seasons. Maize biomass response was highest （7-16 Mg ha1） in zero-tillage and zero-tillage ＋ cover crop and lowest （2-8 Mg ha1） in farmer＇s practice. Significantly negative relationships （P 〈 0.01, r2 = 0.37 - 0.51） were established between leaf area index of maize and weed biomass across the soils. Zero-tillage combined with the use of a cover crop had the lowest weed biomass （〈 30% of the farmer practice） and thus appears to be a promising strategy combining soil fertility improvement with weed suppression in smallholder maize farming systems of Western Kenya.

Effects of Flicker in a Distribution Grid with High PV Penetration

The quantity of installed PV （photovoltaic） systems in the German distribution grid is still increasing. In some areas, the installed PV capacity exceeds 5 kW per HC （house connection）. Therefore, the load flow changes its characteristics and leads to new requirements for the grid. In some areas, the power feedback is higher than the delivery and the installed PV capacity becomes the decisive factor for grid planning. This paper discusses the impact of PV systems on the flicker level. The focus hereby is on the correlation among the flicker level, the grid voltage and the meteorological parameters. Different approaches to investigate if there is an influence of PV systems on the maximum flicker are taken into account. Furthermore, an investigation if the normative limit is exceeded will be shown.

How People Use Earthquake Information and Its Influence on Household Preparedness in New Zealand

Forty-eight interviews were undertaken with residents in Timaru, Wanganui and Napier, New Zealand, in 2008 to explore how people understand and use information about earthquake hazards and preparedness, and how this process affects actual preparedness. Three main types of information were identified as being utilized by people： passive information （e.g., newspapers, brochures, TV, radio, websites）, interactive information （e.g., community activities, school activities~ and workplace activities）, and experiential information （e.g., experiencing a hazardous event, responding to an event, and working in an organization that deals with hazards）. People tended to either contextualize hazard and preparedness information around any prevailing beliefs they had or form new beliefs on exposure to information. A number of core beliefs were identified as crucial for helping people consider that preparing is important and motivating actual adjustment adoption. Society also has an influence on how people interpret information and form intentions to prepare. People are often influenced by the opinions of others, and as preparing for disasters is not seen as a societal norm, this can cause people not to prepare. Feeling a responsibility for others （e.g., children） appears to be a major driver of preparedness. Other societal factors such as trust, leadership and sense of community also influence interpretation, dissemination and use of hazards and preparedness information. Finally, a number of resource issues can help or hinder preparedness.

Zeno’s Paradoxes and Lie Tzu’s Dichotomic Wisdom Explained with Alpha Beta (αβ) Asymptotic Nonlinear Math (Including One Example on Second Order Nonlinear Phenomena)

Zeno’s paradoxes are a set of philosophical problems that were first introduced by the ancient Greek philosopher Zeno of Elea. Here is the first attempt to use asymptotic approach and nonlinear concepts to address the paradoxes. Among the paradoxes, two of the most famous ones are Zeno’s Room Walk and Zeno’s Achilles. Lie Tsu’s pole halving dichotomy is also discussed in relation to these paradoxes. These paradoxes are first-order nonlinear phenomena, and we expressed them with the concepts of linear and nonlinear variables. In the new nonlinear concepts, variables are classified as either linear or nonlinear. Changes in linear variables are simple changes, while changes in nonlinear variables are nonlinear changes relative to their asymptotes. Continuous asymptotic curves are used to describe and derive the equations for expressing the relationship between two variables. For example, in Zeno’s Room Walk, the equations and curves for a person to walk from the initial wall towards the other wall are different from the equations and curves for a person to walk from the other wall towards the initial wall. One walk has a convex asymptotic curve with a nonlinear equation having two asymptotes, while the other walk has a concave asymptotic curve with a nonlinear equation having a finite starting number and a bottom asymptote. Interestingly, they have the same straight-line expression in a proportionality graph. The Appendix of this discussion includes an example of a second-order nonlinear phenomenon. .

使用卡那霉素作为选择剂建立起一套有效的小麦转化体系,预培养3d的未成熟胚在基因枪轰击前后进行高渗处理,轰击后于26℃、黑暗条件培养2周,然后用150mg/L硫酸卡那霉素选择培养2周,再转至含150mg/L硫酸卡那霉素的再生培养基进行光照培养。再生植株在温室中长出2～3片新叶后用2.5％硫酸卡那霉素水溶液喷洒;4周内,非转化体完全白化并枯萎,而转基因植株生长正常,用水稻Actinl启动子控制nptⅡ基因,卡那霉素选择体系的平均转化频率达到2.6％,高渗处理明显促进瞬间表达效果和稳定转化频率。目前已得到23个转基因小麦株系,大多数已经产生种子。Southern分析表明这些转基因株系均整合有不同拷贝的nptⅡ基因。

Post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) is a disabling, potentially chronic disorder that is characterized by re-experience and hyperarousal symptoms as well as the avoidance of trauma-related stimuli. The distress experienced by many veterans of the Vietnam War and their partners prompted a strong interest in developing conjoint interventions that could both alleviate the core symptoms of PTSD and strengthen family bonds. We review the evolution of and evidence base for conjoint PTSD treatments from the Vietnam era through the post-911 era. Our review is particularly focused on the use of treatment strategies that are designed to address the emotions that are generated by the core symptoms of the disorder to reduce their adverse impact on veterans, their partners and the relationship. We present a rationale and evidence to support the direct incorporation of emotion-regulation skills training into conjoint interventions for PTSD. We begin by reviewing emerging evidence suggesting that high levels of emotion dysregulation are characteristic of and predict the severity of both PTSD symptoms and the level of interpersonal/marital difficulties reported by veterans with PTSD and their family members. In doing so, we present a compelling rationale for the inclusion of formal skills training in emotional regulation in couple–/family-based PTSD treatments. We further argue that increased exposure to trauma-related memories and emotions in treatments based on learning theory requires veterans and their partners to learn to manage the uncomfortable emotions that they previously avoided. Conjoint treatments that were developed in the last 30 years all acknowledge the importance of emotions in PTSD but vary widely in their relative emphasis on helping participants to acquire strategies to modulate them compared to other therapeutic tasks such as learning about the disorder or disclosing the trauma to a loved one.
