Organic photovoltaics for simultaneous energy harvesting and high-speed MIMO optical wireless communications

Coating particles using liquids and foams based on viscous formulations with industrial mixers: Batch operation

Particle or powder coating with viscous liquids has been essential in industry for surface modification purposes to induce and enhance specific *** paper evaluates the performance of using foams (of different bubble diameters) versus liquids as a means of coating powder beds based on viscous liquid *** with viscous liquids present numerous industrial challenges and therefore preparing foam equivalents can render the liquid component weak enough (through pre shearing to form the foam),to allow it to break up and coat particles under the shear forces exerted in a mixing *** this study,two shear mixers are used;the first type consists of paddles in different configurations attached to a single rotating shaft,whilst the second type is a commercial twin screw mixer (TsM).The quality of coating achieved on the bulk powder bed using liquids and foams (stained with a dye) is assessed by image analysis to determine the homogeneity of the color *** addition,scanning electron microscopy provides a tool to further investigate the coating quality of individual particles from the bulk *** results show that large bubble (centimeter size) foams are much more effective at distributing within the fluidized powder bed compared to the starting viscous liquid and small bubble foams (submillimeter size).Furthermore,there is a maximum ratio of foam to powder beyond which agglomeration occurs and is insufficient to fully coat the *** of individual particles is achieved in the case of the TsM,whereas sEM proves that the single shaft paddle mixer crushes the particles and subsequently granulates them together to form granules of a size comparable to the size of coated particles seen after coating with the TsM.

Notch severity Effect on Hydrogen Embrittlement of Type 4340 steel

Hydrogen embrittlement of Type 4340 steel has been investigated by straining round-notched specimens in 10(5) Pa hydrogen atmosphere at a constent cross-head spead of 1.4x10(-4) mm/s. The circumferentially notched specimens exhibited a significant embrittlement when their mechanical behaviour in hydrogen was compared with that in air. Although the effect of notch depth on fracture strength in air is negligible, an increase in the depth of notch increase susceptibility to embrittlement when testing in gaseous hydrogen. However, analysis of the effects is complicated by the facts that (i) the specimens show some degree of notch severity even when strained in air and (ii) the behaviour is complicated by the localised plastic deformation that may occur for relatively shallow notches. such effects are eliminated at high stress concentration factors, so there is a systematic loss in fracture stress in hydrogen as the notch sensitivity increases from K-t=2.6 to 5.7 (where a 87% reduction of fracture stress occurs) but a relatively stable value is then reached even for very severe notching by fatigue pre-cracking. whether or not the effect is due to increasing concentration of hydrogen in the triaxial stress region ahead of the notch, there is no doubt that increasing the stress concentration makes hydrogen more effective as an embrittlement agent.

Although many causes of Alzheimer’s disease(Ad)may exist,both the original amyloid cascade and tau hypotheses posit that abnormal misfolding and accumulation of amyloid-β(Aβ)and tau protein is the central event causing the ***,that conclusion could be only partly true,and there is conflicting evidence about the role of both proteins in Ad,being able to precede and influence one *** researchers argue that these proteins are mere executors rather than primary causes of ***,there have been continuing refinements of both hypotheses,with alternative explanations proposed.Aβand tau proteins may be independently involved in specific neurotoxic pathways;yet there may be other crucial processes going on in early ***,accumulating evidence suggests that Aβand tau act synergistically,rather than additively in disease onset(Jeremic et al.,2021,2023a).

Impacts of weaning weights and mycotoxin challenges on jejunal mucosa-associated microbiota,intestinal and systemic health,and growth performance of nursery pigs

Background:This study aimed at investigating the effects of mycotoxin challenge on the growth and physiology of nursery pigs with different weaning ***:At weaning,10 pigs were euthanized to collect jejunal mucosa and 90 pigs were assigned following a randomized complete block design in a 2×2 factorial arrangement of treatments with 3 pigs per *** were:weaning weight(light:body weight,Bww>9.0 kg);and dietary mycotoxins(supplementation of 0.2 mg/kg aflatoxins,2.0 mg/kg deoxynivalenol).All diets had titanium dioxide as an external marker at 0.5%.Growth performance and fecal score were recorded until pigs achieved 20 kg Bw(light pigs average Bw=21.1 kg and heavy pigs average Bw=20.5 kg).Pigs were sampled for blood,ileal digesta,jejunal tissue and mucosa at 20 kg *** were analyzed using the mixed procedure of *** weaning,light pigs had decreased(Psed(Psis factor-α,and increased(Pdiversity indexes of jejunal mucosa-associated *** 20 kg of Bw,light pigs had decreased(Pdaily gain(AdG),average daily feed intake(AdFI),and gain to feed ratio(G/F).Mycotoxins decreased(Pw,AdG,AdFI,and G/*** pigs tended to have increased fecal score on d 0(P=0.080),d 10(P=0.069),and increased(Pscore at 20 *** decreased the apparent ileal digestibility of nitrogen(Ps had increased(Pstinal malondialdehydes and interleukin *** tended to increase(P=0.060)intestinal tumor necrosis factor-α.Conclusions:Nursery pigs with light weaning weight were more susceptible to jejunal inflammation and had impaired intestinal health due to weaning stress,whereas mycotoxins diminished the health and growth of nursery pigs regardless of weaning weight.
