In vivo assessment of intratumoral aspirin injection to treat hepatic tumors

AIM: To study the antineoplastic efficacy of 10% aspirin intralesional injection on VX2 hepatic tumors in a rabbit model. METHODS: Thirty-two male rabbits (age: 6-9 wk; body weight: 1700-2500 g) were inoculated with VX2 hepatic tumor cells (104 cells/rabbit) via supraumbilical median laparotomy. On day 4 post-implantation, when the tumors were about 1 cm in diameter, the rabbits were randomly divided into the following groups (n = 8 each group) to assess early (24 h) and late (7 d) antineoplastic effects of intratumoral injection of 10% bicarbonate aspirin solution (experimental groups) in comparison to intratumoral injection of physiological saline solution (control groups): group 1, 24 h control; group 2, 24 h experimental; group 3, 7 d control; group 4, 7 d experimental. The serum biochemistry profile (measurements of glycemia, alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transferase, aspartateaminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase) and body weight measurements were obtained for all animals at the following time points: D0, before tumor implant; D4, day of treatment; D5, day of sacrifice for groups 1 and 2; D11, day of sacrifice for groups 3 and 4. Gross assessments of the abdominal and thoracic cavities were carried out upon sacrifice. The resected liver tissues, including hepatic tumors, were qualitatively (general morphology, signs of necrosis) and quantitatively (tumor area) assessed by histopathological analysis. RESULTS: Gross examination showed no alterations, besides the left hepatic lobe tumors, had occurred in the thoracic and abdominal cavities of any animal at any time point evaluated. However, the features of the tumor foci were distinctive between the groups. Compared to the control groups, which showed normal unabated tumor progression, the aspirin-treated groups showed imprecise but limited tumor boundaries and a general red-white coloration (indicating hemorrhaging) at 24 h post-treatment, and development of yellow-white areas of a cicatricial as

There is an emerging need for high-sensitivity solar-blind deep ultraviolet(DUV)photodetectors with an ultra-fast response *** nanoscale devices based on Ga_(2)O_(3)nanostructures have been developed,their practical applications are greatly limited by their slow response speed as well as low specific ***,the successful fabrication of two-/three-dimensional(2D/3D)graphene(Gr)/PtSe2/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)Schottky junction devices for high-sensitivity solar-blind DUV photodetectors is *** from the high-quality 2D/3D Schottky junction,the vertically stacked structure,and the superior-quality transparent graphene electrode for effective carrier collection,the photodetector is highly sensitive to DUV light illumination and achieves a high responsivity of 76.2 mA/W,a large on/off current ratio of~105,along with an ultra-high ultraviolet(UV)/visible rejection ratio of 1.8×*** importantly,it has an ultra-fast response time of 12µs and a remarkable specific detectivity of~1013 ***,an excellent DUV imaging capability has been identified based on the Gr/PtSe2/β-Ga_(2)O_(3)Schottky junction photodetector,demonstrating its great potential application in DUV imaging systems.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for copolymer solutions are necessary for several chemical processes. However, VLE data for copolymer solutions in the published report are rare. In this study, experimental VLE data for binary systems copolymer+solvent were obtained using a gravimetricsorption apparatus. The studied systems were hexane+poly (21% acrylonitrile-co-butadiene), hexane+poly (33% acrylonitrile-co-butadiene), hex- ane+poly (51% acrylonitrile-co-butadiene), hexane+poly (23% styrene-co-butadiene), hexane+poly (45% styrene-co-butadiene), and benzene+poly (44% styrene-co-methyl methacrylate) in the range 50-70oC. The experimental data were correlated with the UNIFAC and Elbro-FV group contribution models for the activity coefficient. Two sets of functional groups had been used to represent the monomers in copolymers:literature groups and new proposed groups. The mean deviations between experimental and calculated mass fractions about 2.4% with Elbro-FV and 13.3% with Zhong were observed when the groups proposed in this study were used, and of 3.5% for Elbro-FV and 13.2% for Zhong when literature groups were used.

Phosphorus(P)deficiency is one of the main constraints on crop production in Arenosols(acid sandy soil).The high cost of P fertilizers may represent an insurmountable obstacle in many poor countries,leaving the exploitation of their own calcareous and phosphate rocks as the only low-cost and long-term *** is suggested to have positive effects on soil properties;however,there is no published research on the synergistic effects of biochar and rocky materials in modifying soil *** aim of this study was to investigate the chemical and biochemical responses of an acid Arenosol treated with phosphate rock(PR),calcareous rock(CR),and biochar(BC),and the implications for corn yield.A soil from Marracuene District,Mozambique was used,where corn was grown for 90 d with the soil treated with:no addition(control),water-soluble zinc phosphite fertilizer(WSP),PR,WSP+CR,WSP+BC,WSP+CR+BC,PR+BC,and PR+CR+*** was produced by pyrolysis of babycorn peels for 4 h at 450?C and applied at 11 g *** soil pHH2 Oincreased from about 4.54 in the control to 7.38 in the PR+CR+BC *** oxidizable organic carbon,cation exchange capacity,and available P were higher in the treatments containing BC than in the *** treatments containing CR and/or BC led to the highest activities of alkaline phosphomonoesterase,phosphodiesterase,andα-glucosidase,which increased P availability and gave the greatest biomass and *** suggest that biochar provides additional soluble P and supplies adsorption sites for phosphate,preventing its evolution to unavailable ***,PR applied together with BC contributed to an 840%yield increase compared to the *** treatments containing WSP and BC facilitated phosphite oxidation to phosphate and increased crop yield.

Temporary Crops in the Brazilian Agricultural Frontier

Food production remains one of the main challenges for humankind in this century, and Brazil is one of the largest food-producing countries that have yet some land for economically or technically profitable farming expansion. Moreover, knowing which areas constitute the Brazilian agricultural frontier is crucial for improving public policies and logistics infrastructure decisions. Data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics from 1995 to 2019 were used in this study. We aimed to map and measure the expansion of agricultural areas in Brazil from 1995 to 2019 for temporary crops according to their mesoregions. We used a four-stage methodology, compared the results of two agglomerative clustering methods, and identified similar mesoregions based on their share trends in the Brazilian agricultural seeded area. Some mesoregions had higher positive trend values for their share of the Brazilian agricultural seeded area: Mato-grossense North (MT), Mato-grossense Northeast (MT), Mato Grosso do Sul Southwest (MS), Goiano South (GO), Extreme West Bahia (BA), Maranhense South (MA), Piauiense Southwest (PI), and Tocantins Eastern (TO). As a second leading group, the Paranaíba Upstream (MG), São José do Rio Preto (SP), Mato-grossense Southeast (MT), and Goiano East (GO), must be emphasized. Further research is recommended, including extending the study to permanent crops and applying top-down analysis targeting microregions or municipalities in the identified mesoregions.

Analytical Engineering for Data Stream

The analytical capacity of massive data has become increasingly necessary, given the high volume of data that has been generated daily by different sources. The data sources are varied and can generate a huge amount of data, which can be processed in batch or stream settings. The stream setting corresponds to the treatment of a continuous sequence of data that arrives in real-time flow and needs to be processed in real-time. The models, tools, methods and algorithms for generating intelligence from data stream culminate in the approaches of Data Stream Mining and Data Stream Learning. The activities of such approaches can be organized and structured according to Engineering principles, thus allowing the principles of Analytical Engineering, or more specifically, Analytical Engineering for Data Stream (AEDS). Thus, this article presents the AEDS conceptual framework composed of four pillars (Data, Model, Tool, People) and three processes (Acquisition, Retention, Review). The definition of these pillars and processes is carried out based on the main components of data stream setting, corresponding to four pillars, and also on the necessity to operationalize the activities of an Analytical Organization (AO) in the use of AEDS four pillars, which determines the three proposed processes. The AEDS framework favors the projects carried out in an AO, that is, its Analytical Projects (AP), to favor the delivery of results, or Analytical Deliverables (AD), carried out by the Analytical Teams (AT) in order to provide intelligence from stream data.

The relationships between climate conditions and wood density in tropical forests are still poorly *** quantify spatial dependence of wood density in the state of Minas Gerais(MG,Brazil),map spatial distribution of density,and correlate density with climate variables,we extracted data from the Forest Inventory of Minas Gerais for 1988 trees scaled throughout the territory and measured wood density of discs removed from the *** variables were extracted from the database of the Ecological-Economic Zoning of Minas *** spatial analysis,tree densities were measured at 44 georeferenced sampling *** data were subjected to exploratory analysis,variography,cross-validation,model selection,and ordinary *** relationships between wood density and environmental variables were calculated using dispersion matrices,linear correlation,and *** density proved to be highly spatially dependent,reaching a correlation of 96%,and was highly continuous over a distance of 228 *** distribution of wood density followed a continuous gradient of 514-659 kg m^(−3),enabling corre-lation with environment *** was correlated with mean annual precipitation(−0.57),temperature(0.63),and evapotranspiration(0.83).Geostatistical methods proved useful in predicting wood density in native tropical forests with different climate *** results confirmed the sensitivity of wood density to climate change,which could affect future carbon stock in forests.

Nowadays, all different areas in business world agree about the paramount importance of Maintenance Function. At the same time, the progressive worth of the Activity opens a greater number of ways pointed up to the conquest of its scientific status. Considering such issues, this paper deals with the Maintenance Management and the challenges that it has been called to respond, as a result of intricate scenarios where high competition, fast changes in social-economical environments and shortage of natural resources have to be faced by all organizations in search for survival and perennial continuity. Taking into account such concerns, the problems related to organizational Sustainability are analyzed in their typical nuances （environmental, social and economical）, and an integrated model of Maintenance management system is proposed, in order to decisively contribute for the excellence in present and future corporate performance. Based upon a broad revision of the related literature to investigate the practices concerning the usual policies for Maintenance management, this innovative and strategic approach for the Activity is presented, with more extensive and integrated characteristics to be settled in complement to those traditionally used, to assure the business sustainability for all organizations. This model is called "SCM: The Sustainability-Centered Maintenance" and, in order to describe its functional process, influences of factors such as Quality, Training, Physical Resources, Management Performance and Maintenance Policies are herein analysed.

Assessment of Potential Nutrient Release from Phosphate Rock and Dolostone for Application in Acid Soils

Finding alternative local sources of plant nutrients is a practical, low-cost, and long-term strategy. In this study, laboratory column experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design to evaluate the feasibility of using phosphate rock and dolostone as fertilizers or acid-neutralizing agents for application in tropical acid soils. The dissolution rates of different particle-size fractions(0.063–0.25, 0.25–0.5, and 0.5–2 mm) of both rocks were studied by citric acid solution at p H 4 and 2 and water, with extraction times of 1, 3, 5, 7, 12, 24, 72, 144, 240, and 360 h. The results showed that the dissolution of both rocks depended on the particle size,leaching solution, and extraction time. The dissolution rate of rock-forming minerals increased as the specific surface area increased,corresponding to a decrease in particle size. In all cases, the release kinetics was characterized by two phases: 1) a first stage of rapid release that lasted 24 h and would ensure short-term nutrient release, and 2) a second stage of slow release after 24 h, representing the long-term nutrient release efficiency. Both rocks were suitable as slow-release fertilizers in strongly acid soils and would ensure the replenishment of P, Ca, and Mg. A combination of fine and medium particle-size fractions should be used to ensure high nutrient-release efficiency. Much work could remain to determine the overall impact of considerable amounts of fresh rocks in soils.
