Phytotoxic effect of Sesbania virgata(Cav.) *** seeds of agronomic and forestry species

Sesbania virgata（Cav.） *** a pioneer species native to South America able to release allelochemicals that affect germination and development of other plant *** aim of this work was to evaluate the allelopathic effect of *** on the germination and development of co-occurring species from gallery forest and on agronomic *** forest native species,enterolobium contortisiliquum（Vell.） Morong and Sapindus saponaria L.,and two agronomic species（these as control）,Oryza sativa *** Solanum lycopersicum *** used in the lab and greenhouse assays with seeds and leaf extracts of *** species were more affected than native species when co-germinated with seeds of *** germination percentage and speed germination index of the agronomic species were reduced in both in vitro and greenhouse *** the same assays,the seeds of native species showed no significant differences in the parameters ***,the initial growth of the four species assayed was affected,with reduction in plant length and shoot diameter followed by significant reduction in plantlet shoot and root *** the assays with irrigation of *** leaf extracts,no significant inhibitory effects on germination were observed for all *** and shoot diameter of the native species were not affected by the leaf extracts,nor were fresh and dry ***,these parameters increased in the agronomic species as they were irrigated with leaf *** on our data we conclude that seed leachates of *** affect germination and seedling development of other species,suggesting that its invasive behavior is due mainly to seed *** with less pronounced effects on native species,allelopathy of *** might also influence Interspecific competition in its natural environment.

POLYMeR CHARGe AND MOLeCULAR WeIGHT eFFeCTS ON TReATeD IRRIGATION FURROW PROCeSSeS

Application of 5-10 mg L-1 water soluble anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) to furrow irrigation water during flow advance substantially reduces sediment loss and increases net infiltration. We hypothesized that PAM_s solvated molecular conformation influences its irrigation-management efficacy. The study was conducted in Kimberly, idaho, on Portneuf silt loam (Durinodic Xeric Haplocalcids), under furrowirrigated beans (Phaseolus vulgaris ) at a 1.5% slope. Polyacrylamides with contrasting molecular weight (anionic; 4-7, 12- 15 and 14-17 MDa, i.e. Mg mol-1 ), charge type (neutral, anionic, cationic), and charge density (8, 19, 35 mol %) were tested in two studies. Inflow rate was 23 L min-1 during furrow advance, and 15 L min-1 for the remaining set. Anionic and neutral PAMs were twice as effective as cationic PAMs for controlling sediment loss in new furrows. The order of effectiveness for overall soilloss control was : anionic ＞neutral ＞cationic PAM, and efficacy increased with increasing charge density and/or molecular weight. Net furrow infiltration increased by 14 to 19% when PAM treatment molecular weight was reduced from 17 to 4 MDa. General trends suggested that medium and high charge density anionic and neutral PAM produced the greatest increase in infiltration compared with *** with untreated furrows, neutral PAM gave the greatest season-long net infiltration gains (5%),while charged PAMs tended to increase net infiltration early in the season on new furrows but decreased infiltration on repeat-irrigated furrows later in the season.

Toxicity and Antiviral Activities of Some Medicinal Plants Used by Traditional Medical Practitioners in Zimbabwe

Genital herpes, usually caused by Herpes Simplex Virus type-2 (HSV-2), is the commonest sexually transmitted disease especially amongst rural women in Southern Africa including Zimbabwe. This predisposes them to HIV/AidS infection, cancer and opportunistic infections (OIs). Current antiviral treatments are often cytotoxic and/or ineffective. This motivates active research to find alternative safer drugs or lead drugs from traditional medicinal sources. Twenty six (26) methanol extracts from commonly used and often endangered plant species (14) used by communities and traditional medical practitioners for treating illnesses and sexually transmitted diseases from 5-selected districts of Zimbabwe were investigated for toxicity by Brine shrimp lethality test (BSLT) and by 50% Cytopathic effect on VeRO cultured cells. The extracts were also tested for antiviral activity against Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2) by the end Point Titration Technique (ePTT) and Neutralisation Test (NT) on VeRO cells. Results from the BSLTs ranged 66.66 - 4304 μg/ml;50% Cytopathic effect from 19.53 - 312 μg/ml whilst the NT id50 values ranged from 10.41 - 125 μg/ml. The antiviral ePTT reduction factor (RF) was 1 - 104 with 13 extracts showing RF ≥ 103. All the plant extracts had moderate to high toxicity (LC50, 789 - 66 μg/ml) in the BSLT. Six extracts had LC50 values greater than 1000 μg/ml. All 26 extracts were cytotoxic with CC50 values ere more toxic CC50 in vitro therapeutic indexes ≥ 3.7. Cassia abbreviata, Dichrostachys cinerea and Hypoxis hemerocallidea had therapeutic indexes (TI) 7.5 - 15.0. The more active plant extracts were from roots and root tubers. The results confirm the rationale for the use of traditional medicinal plants by traditional medical practitioners for treating various diseases and could bring awareness for their better use and improve conservation. Titration Method Validation of Live Vaccines against Infectious Bursal Disease

Validating a method of analysis goes through different steps, which aims at testing the normality of measurements distribution, estimating the uncertainty of the components of a measurement （i.e., accuracy and correctness）, and finally, define the control tests of non degradation of the method performances. This paper outlines the steps for validating a biological method of analysis. It involves the construction of an experimental design, a statistical model, and the preparation of an interne laboratory reference material （pilot vaccine）. The latter is used to study the impact of deviation and variation factors, in order to, optimize the analytical method, to evaluate the bias （random error）, and to calculate the uncertainty of measurement, and make the control charts. This method is applied in the titration of live viral vaccines of Gumboro disease on chicken＇s embryos fibroblasts. The experimental results show that potential influence factors related to the titration method had no significant influence on the obtained results. Taking into account these results, an operating mode has been elaborated. The finalized method proved to be faithful to standard deviation of repeatability and reproducibility of 0.21 and 0.22, respectively, with a confidence level of 95%. The calculated uncertainty of measurement is equal to 0.2, which represents the average error level of a titer. A homogeneous stock of interne laboratory reference vaccine （MRIL）, with an average titer of 5.9 log DIT 50, was produced and the control chart set in away to provide the laboratory with an important tool of control and monitoring of the viral titers evolution in time, as well as, the mastery of the validated titration method performances.

Nigral dopaminergic neuron replenishment in adult mice through Ve-cadherin-expressing neural progenitor cells

The function of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra is of central importance to the coordination of movement by the brain＇s basal ganglia circuitry. This is evidenced by the loss of these neurons, resulting in the cardinal motor deficits associated with Parkinson＇s disease. In order to fully understand the physiology of these key neurons and develop potential therapies for their loss, it is essential to determine if and how dopaminergic neurons are replenished in the adult brain. Recent work has presented evidence for adult neurogenesis of these neurons by Nestin＋/Sox2 neural progenitor cells. We sought to further validate this finding and explore a potential atypical origin for these progenitor cells. Since neural progenitor cells have a proximal association with the vasculature of the brain and subsets of endothelial cells are Nestin＋, we hypothesized that dopaminergic neural progenitors might share a common cell lineage. Therefore, we employed a Ve-cadherin promoter-driven CReeRT2：TIlox/Tlox transgenic mouse line to ablate the tyrosine hydroxylase gene from endothelial cells in adult animals. After 26 weeks, but not 13 weeks, following the genetic blockade of tyrosine hydroxylase expression in Ve-cadherin＋ cells, we observed a significant reduction in tyrosine hydroxylase＋ neurons in the substantia nigra. The results from this genetic lineage tracing study suggest that dopaminergic neurons are replenished in adult mice by a Ve-cadherin＋ progenitor cell population potentially arising from an endothelial lineage.

A Novel 3D Supramolecular Network Constructed from [Cu(4,4'-bipyridine)(O_2CMe)_2]_2 Molecular Ladders by Hydrogen Bonding

The title complex, {[Cu2（4,4＇-bipyridine）2（μ-O2CMe）2（O2CMe）2],H2O}n 1, was synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. It crystallizes in monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 13.4474（5）, b = 11.7566（2）, c = 19.5380（6）A, β = 92.930（2）°, V = 3084.84（16） A^3, Z = 4, Cu2C28N409H30, Mr = 693.64, Dc = 1.494 g/cm^3, F（000） = 1424 and μ（MoKα） = 1.436 mm^-1. With the use of 2062 observed reflections （I 〉 2σ（I））, the structure was refined to R = 0.0769 and wR = 0.2154. In complex 1, the dimeric copper acetate units are linked through 4,4’-bipyridine to yield id molecular ladders. These ladders are connected via O-H…O hydrogen bonds to generate 2D layers, which are further linked through C-H…O hydrogen bonds to give a 3D supramolecular network.

The mechanics of soil erosion from irrigated and rainfed lands are similar. Soil particles are detached,transported and deposited. However, there are some systematic differences between irrigation and rainfallerosion. electrolyte concentrations in irrigation water, for example, are almost always greater than in rainwater. Differences between rainfall and irrigation are more prominent for surface irrigation than forsprinkler irrigation. For instance, rainfall wets the soil before runoff begins, but water initially flows ontodry soil in irrigation furrows. Furthermore, furrow flow rate decreases with distance and increases withtime, while the opposite tends to occur with rainfall. For sprinkler systems, travel direction and slopeaspect interact, so runoff can flow within the irrigated area or from the irrigated area onto dry or wet ***, a sprinkler-irrigation erosion model must consider both the rainfall-runoff situation and the furrowflow situation. These differences in soil and water interactions must be considered before computermodels can accurately simulate irrigation-induced soil erosion.

受新型冠状病毒肺炎疫情影响,许多有组织性筛查的国家暂停了结直肠癌筛查服务,这可能会导致癌前病变和结直肠癌的诊断延迟,进展期腺瘤和结直肠癌发病率升高。然而随着疫情的控制,筛查项目的重启,其对结直肠癌发病率及其各分期分布的影响未知。本研究基于荷兰肿瘤登记系统收集的2018—2020年25家医院所有确诊的55~75岁(当地筛查起止年龄)结直肠癌患者信息,分析每月总体及各临床分期诊断数量。基于筛查暂停前的发病率推断2020年3—12月的预期发病率,并将其与实际发病率比较,分析结直肠癌筛查活动暂停与重启的影响。
